Punk, Tattoos and Fly Fishing

Im a pretty young dude who likes "old dude" things most of the time. My perfect day is watching COPS, tying flies, drinking Jameson, and petting my dog. I've been Fly Fishing since I was 13 years old, and have loved every minute of it. I fucking hate team sports (probably due to the fact that I am an only child, and my parents didn't really give a fuck if I played sports or not.) so fishing was perfect for me. Also, I had one of those bullshit "teenage angst" periods of my life, and I really got into all that 924 Gilman shit (which I still am I guess...)

I Always felt like I belonged in the Fly Fishing community. I used to fish with people who are 20+ years older than me and it was awesome. But that was when I was a kid. Now that I am slightly grown up, have a decent amount of tattoos, and wear clothing that people who fly fish don't usually wear... Im almost like a outcast in the fishing community.

I am just ranting about bullshit that means nothing in the long run. Honestly, I don't really care if the dude next to me thinks I am an asshole because I am wearing a Blood For Blood hoodie instead of some 300+ dollar jacket from a fishing store. I still wave and try and make small conversations with these people, but in the end, they just look at me like a retarded Brad Pitt from "A River Runs Through It". I love Fly Fishing, I love Tattoos, and I love music.

And I really fucking love Whiskey.

High-five dude. I don't fly fish but I grew up fishing and have only recently been able to do a little from time to time over the summer. Keep on doing what you're doing.. sounds like a perfect day for me as well.

The last time i went fly fishing was in high school. it was actually one of our PE courses. it was alot of fun. I do enjoy fishing every once in awhile.

fishing....fucking fishing......its the best thing ever.....god to be alone and quiet. i take my son fishing opening day on the north fork of the feather river every year cuz i have been every year since i was born. not so quiet when he is there and as a matter of fact not much fishing. theoreticly someday we will fish together with out having to discuss optimus prime but who knows. being out in the wild is good for him and me as well. ther is more to this thing than oakland. nice rant.

Love this rant. You sound A LOT like my husband. Creepily similar in fact. Right down to the Blood For Blood reference. You guys could have an amazing bromance if I could ever get him onto the interweb.

Yes! That book was incredible. Im currently Cormac Mccarthy, and a John Gierach (awesome outdoors writer/fly fisherman) binge.

I go bass fishing just about every day I have off in the summer. You wouldn't think Brooklyn would be the best place for it, but god damn have I landed some nice ones in Prospect Park Lake. (check my avatar)

i used to joke around about how i was an old lady in a 24 year old's body because i love to knit, drink tea, sew, and bake. i'm going to attempt to get into quilting soon...but this is a different type of quilting project than traditional and it will take some experimentation.

haven't gone fishing in yeeeaars. if i wasn't vegan/vegetarian, i'd probably be into fly fishing too. seems so relaxing.

Fly Fishing is the most relaxing part of my life. And honestly, I have not kept a fish to eat in the last 5 years or so. I just don't see the point in eating a fish when I have hella shit back at my campsite to eat.

Plus, killing a 18" German Brown is just wrong...

i was very much a tom boy growning up and my dad used to take me everywhere with him and his buddies. my summers where spent salmon fishing with my dad. we would hike for about 45 min to get to the perfect stream. we spent the day there and it was perfect and so calming.
msrad- im so with you on the old lady in a young persons body. i love to knit and crochet, but my favorite activity is cross stitching!
