Re: New addiction; piercings
It sounds like you have a very unique situation. I think if you do enough looking around and enough research you will find something that you are interested in no matter what you mind state is. The world of tattooing is so vast that I know you will find subject matter and artist that interest you. There are lots of good resources on LST. I suggest you hang out here and check out some of what this site has to offer!

Re: New addiction; piercings
I've had 4 non-visible piercings in my lifetime and only 1 has survived.
Had 14ga stretched out to 6ga nippy rings for 5 years until some twit at work gave me a "tit-flick" and ripped it out. I punched that pretty boy in the shoulder as hard as I could...where he got his very first tattoo 48 hrs before. He was a moron so I sent him to my apprentice buddy who did a decent job but carved the shit out of his arm. And the kid had no idea about aftercare so the thing was a big scabby mess...with a new purple bruise on top. I lost the piercing, tore my nipple and got to watch a 21 year old man (boy) cry. LOL.
Got a 8ga septum ring in New York in 2004. The chick who pierced it spoke limited english and I swear to god she went cross-eyed at the instant she pushed the needle through. sheeeiiiiiit. Septum never did sit right. I remember my nose being all bloody and right after I left the piercing studio I bumped into Pete Kohler from SOIA on the street and got my picture taken. Hilarious. I stretched it out and wore a tunnel plug in my nose for a good 2 year run. It freaked tout the squares in my office when they noticed the shiny booger (you could only see it if you were standing behind me). I just liked the novelty of the shock value being able to stick a fork through my nose. Then I started training kung fu and got bopped in the nose for the first time with it, and I realized that a facial piercing will turn into a projectile and do some serious damage to your face if you ever got into a fist fight or in a car accident.
I've had a PA for 10 years now, stretched out to a 0ga. I guess it just seems normal now to wear it, serves no sexual purpose in fact I remove it. Plus it's fun to bust out the Mr.Lifto party tricks once in a blue moon. Every seen a grown man hang a butterfly sword off his wang? The Shaolin Drunk Monk Iron Cock technique. LOL WHOA too much info.
These days a piercing isn't shocking anymore and makes you look like a hot topic rave teenager. Disco sucks fuck everything.
A piercing is temporary, a tattoo is permanent...the reason why tattoo is more appealing and interesting to me.

Re: New addiction; piercings
I happen to like both piercings and tattoos and my co-workers still think I am a bit weird.
Most of my piercings I have had for years and most of them were covered up. I recently got my septum pierced, just to get it pierced. I am just wearing a retainer until I can find the right jewelry to wear in it full time. I am wanting a gold clicker piece with diamonds and tigers eye in it. I think I found a jewelry shop to make it. Just need to get the $$$ right so I can order it.

Re: New addiction; piercings
I think the general public dont think twice about lumping them together, Its us, the purists, that dont care for the association, I sort of feel sorry for every piercer I have worked around, I probably treated them like second class. Oh well, I too am a dick, apparently.

Re: New addiction; piercings
I've had a couple of different piercings, but none of them lasted more than a year - either because they got infected or because I got tired of them..
I've had my ears pierced several places, at the moment I only have normal piercings in the earlobe..
Then I've had my nipple pierced, got my navel pierced two times (second time hurt SO bad when the piercer struggled getting the needle through the scar tissue!) and then I've had a Skin Diver next to my eye.Live out your dreams..

Re: New addiction; piercings
Keep Tattoo forums for Tattooing and Piercing forums for piercings.
Personally i love both,
But as a rule of thumb, i get pierced by a Body Piercer and tattooed by a tattoo artist.
I wouldn't mix the two together, they're individual.

Re: New addiction; piercings
As has been noted, there are threads about whiskey, food, cars, bikes, guns, just about everything...why not about piercing?
The reputable piercers I know of around here all work out of tattoo parlors, so there is a connection.
And if you don't get into it, you can always click right on past. PErsonally, I wouldn't get any of the facial stuff, but I find ot interesting.Old enough to know better, still young enough to try.

Re: New addiction; piercings
I have one piercing and may want to get some more. Most of what I see I like on people, although less is more. I like that it can be discussed on a civilized forum like this one.

All the ones I know (piercers or tattoo artists) don't mix the 2 disciplines.
RobQ: Did that tattoo hurt?
A: No, it was an iron-on!
