@RoryQ haha kind of. I have been lucky enough to get over 3 times in the last ten months (thank you Jetstar haha) but that was everything I was able to get done last trip (Hannya second trip, nothing on the first) But i'll either get my ass back over asap or wait until the crew come to Australia next year.

I missed getting work from Chad also when he was here in Brisbane recently at Westside... one day dammit.

My latest is posted in the War Stories thread as well, but I might as well tell more about it here. I got it this past Saturday. This one was at the request of my kids. I had said I wanted something completely whimsical, so I asked them what they thought I should get. They suggested Perry the Platypus, also known as Agent P, from the Disney show Phineas and Ferb. I am almost as big a fan of the show as they are, so I thought it was an awesome idea. I found that the artist who has done my previous three tattoos is currently taking a break from the business, so went to another loval artist she had recommended - Robyn at Mothers Tattoo in Erlanger KY. I am seriously pleased with the outcome - great experience and she did a great job of capturing the character. She also used a nearly silent tattoo machine, which I found interesting, I didn't know those existed....

Thanks everyone, I'm really pleased with it and Chad's great, so fast!

@jade1955 That Bert Krak piece is pretty much perfect, simple and really interesting. I was tempted to try get something from him or Boltz but resisted, got to save some money before my next!

@Hrubarb I really like all those black and grey traditionals, the eagle in particular is really cool.

Yes....Boston convention.

Chad and Jondix work was at Montreal convention.....First two conventions Ive been to. I always avoided them because growing up conventions for other interests I have always sucked for the most part. Tattoo conventions seem to have some goofy aspects but the tattoo work/books/machines etc and meeting other interesting tattooers/collectors make it a great time. Esp Montreal, love that city.

Thanks for the kind words on the Thomas work. He is very good to me and my wife and glad I have him doing my chest/sleeve...feel like hes going to bring them together well. Hope to be spending the next year finishing this up...have a few more ideas for him.

Also planning on big work from Chris.......Saved is a great place.

It goes without saying that Thomas Hooper is doing amazing things, but I'd love to be tattooed by Jondix - randomly would love to have my feet done by him.

Don't really know where I'm going with the whole 'plan'. I have my right forearm tattooed and that's it, I know a lot you guys have loads more, but it's kind of fun thinking about what's out there.

I'm breaking my word and posting a pic from the end of day 1 of my backpiece, because I really like this photo, which I have borrowed from White Dragon Tattoo (the Belfast-based studio hosting Ching and Hua).

So, we got six hours done yesterday. I'm resting today then booked in tomorrow for another full day. Ching suggested we do the outline and some shading for a little over half the back yesterday, and then get the rest of the outline and some more shading on the untouched side of the back on the second session. I will probably do another 2-3 sessions next year (not sure when or where, yet, depends on their convention and guest schedule).

Ching and Hua were fresh from the London convention. They didn't appear particularly tired, but Ching explained he'd began another backpiece (a big Hannya) and done some sort of half-sleeve and a hand tattoo over there.

He had the design for my back ready - a representation of Guan Yin against a bamboo background, with a bird. The bird is a traditional motif sometimes associated with Guan Yin, as I understand. I believe the story goes that the bird was orphaned, and subsequently flew to Guan Yin, who looked after it and taught it - and it became her disciple, basically.

I'd sent over my dimensions so he had a stencil which appeared to work, with some adjustments for the shape of my back.

I'm not going to say it was particularly pleasant getting six hours done, but I had deliberately slept well and not drank anything much for about 10 days - I think it made a big difference.
