Pornography... In and around a tattoo shop, what's your take on this?

Recommended Posts

Playboy has sent our shop magazines for years and years and we've never had a subscription. Same as at a different shop I worked in. They just show up in the mail. TBH, we mostly just open the plastic to find the cover bunny. Then it becomes less interesting and just winds up sitting on a counter or something.

I'll risk asking some (maybe stupid) questions to what has been said by @Ursula and many others:

1. Why would you want to be associated with porn when it is associated with 'sleazy' 'sad' 'can't find a real girl' and such? And I'm not saying using porn (we all use it, have seen/read through it) but displaying it for all in public is a bit rude and bad manners (can I say 'bad manners' and porn in the same post?). It just paints this image of a lonely creep no one wants to f*%#. Doesn't it?

2. Isn't 'Porn' when people 'do it'? As opposed to pictures that show naked girls in 'pseudo-erotic' poses?

3. I don't think women get that offended by it but would you get tattooed (being a woman) by a guy who clearly likes this kind of stuff? I'd feel wrong with his hands on me, no matter the glowes. (and yet again, I can know he likes it and that is fine but when he's so 'in your face' with it...? Doesn't feel right.

And those are more questions then opinions....I don't really have an 'opinion' on the subject as it would depend on many variables....I'm curious, I guess...

Bunny, my oldest is looking for a line-drawing of an old knuckle bobber. We're looking through my collection of Easyriders for it, and I realize, the collection stops in 1984 or 5. When they sold that mag, imho, yeah, it just became another softcore porno book. Bikes that don't get rid, builders that just slap parts together, 900 numbers (do they still have those?!), and nekkid wimmens.

Nothing to do with motorsickles at all.

I have to admit to a bit of laziness. I read the first post, and scanned a few others, but haven't read the whole thread. I'm just going to answer the initial question. This relates I think to the thread about music in the shop and how loud and what sort might be offensive. I subscribe to the theory that if shit offends you that might just be a sign you're in the wrong place. I know there is some variance regarding the "strength" of the porn in question, and certainly some people have legit business concerns about frightening people off. So, it's just my opinion, but I'm for all things that might send wankers and soccer moms running for the hills :-)

Well, after reading all these... I'm not set in an opinion but I do think that the magazines serve a purpose other then jack mags... It's like this...

The shops that I have been in, 3 out of 5 of them are badass, it's like no matter what these dudes are gonna do whatever the fuck they wanna do, and if you can't deal with the decor, and remove said stick from ass, then get the fuck out... If you can't take looking at a photo of penetration, (in certain shops) you may want to rethink what you're doing in the shop in the first place...

Tattooing itself is an intimate affair, getting penetrated by needles, using lube and vibrating devices, while the rubber glove offers a barrier interpersonally, you're still trusting someone to poke you over and over, and unlike sex, the final result is permanent.

And it's not my shop, as we kept such things under wraps... And we'll continue that practice I'm sure in the future...

I was in high school in a poker tournament and somebody started playing transexual pornography on a big screen t.v. It made me play better. I won the table.

I thought all tattoo shops had porno mags? What else are you supposed to read when you get tattooed, Martha Stewart Living?

i've been in a shop that had a movie playing on a flat screen that was pretty violent, just curious if people find that to be more or less offensive than porn laying around. i've always found it weird that graphic violence is far more accepted than the natural act of copulation.

While I cannot verify this 100%, but here in the US porn is taboo but violence is accepted, and it has been like this for a long time.

Back on topic, I just remembered one of the auto shops I worked in when I was in highschool used to keep a ridiculous amount of porn stacked in the bathroom to keep people from using it (mainly women who bitched about how dirty it was or parents letting kids use the bathroom). Thinking of that, I do think it does kinda keep certain people at bay.
