Jeff Gogue guesting @ Yellow Blaze, Youtube Vids, March 2010

Recommended Posts

Hello,

One of the first series of videos I saw, in fact, the series of videos that lead me here were posted by Jeff Gogue from his guest spot at Yellow Blaze in Yokohama a while back.

Has some cool tattoos (skulls, Venetian Mask, etc.) by Jeff, a close look at some of Shige's clients full body tattoos, specifically on Tomo (apprentice) and Juichimen Kannon (client), and start of Jeff Gogue's backpiece by Shige.

I personally was taken aback at seeing those two tattoos 'LIVE' rather the just photographed, but I'm a newbie.

Also, a cool sense of being in Japan: dining out, visiting gardens/temples, fancy toilets, etc.

Did a search and didn't see that anyone had posted them, so thought I would, in case anyone missed them.

Cu_Bu: completely agree, it's very beautiful.

gougetheeyes: I hear you, but works for myself, has been listening to Kore's interview the past week or so, pretty much on a loop, while packing lumpias, washing dishes, making bread. Youtube and podcasts keep me from going nuts at times. I hope you enjoy them, to show how ignorant I was, and still am, as I ruefully learned on my other thread of the day, I completely thought at first that Jeff Gogue was just a client and was amazed....'Wow...what great hospitality, he's picking up his client from the train, sharing dinner, etc. etc......'.....sad I know.

I watched those vids before we visited Shige's studio last year. It's a really good video diary in that he does manage to capture the feel of Toyko / Yokohama pretty well... I bet cramming the backpiece work in on top of his own tattoo work plus the jetlag must have been a real head-melter and added to his sense of dislocation. Shige's studio is pretty crazy - all the back piece designs he has up in his work area are amazng... sheets and sheets of brilliance. Pretty heavy haze of incense hanging around too.

An interview with Tomo is being published in next month's Total Tattoo magazine. I spoke to the guy who did it a few months ago, and he said he thought it was going to be a really interesting interview for people, to get that insight into the sempai / kohai relationship in a studio as famous as Yellow Blaze.

@RoryQ I just picked up that magazine and enjoyed the article. Honestly, I was just excited to see new photos of new tattoos, but reading the article was pretty interesting. I arrived at this forum from those videos to find out more info about traveling for tattoos, jet lag, etc. Found good info and interesting ideas. Now just putting pieces together to make it happen.

@Ben87 That's awesome! Getting life in order to make a journey like that myself, sooner rather than later, one hopes. I, along with many others, I would imagine, look forward to seeing how your tattoo turns out.

@exume I just saw that they were made private. Bummer, the vids were great.

Ahh yeah nice one thats it, the white ink has settled in now so looks a lot more subtle. I also took my copy of his book over there hoping he would sign it for me, he asked me to leave it with him a few days so i did, when i came back to collect it he had done this for me, as you can see i was pretty happy with it haha. Such a nice bloke.
