That's the thing with some tattooers, they're more then ______ ? They tattoo good energy into you or something, if you go to the dashboard on the Occult thing Shawn, if you can look at my drafts, look at the post about tattoos and cooking I have been trying to work on... And then help me finish it hahah...;)

Went in for outlines. Came out happy.

You get more than a tattoo from Robert Ryan, that's for sure.

I saw that on his Instagram feed- amazing! I was telling my girl that I should get something like this, since my hardcore Catholic Mom gave me a hard time about taking part in a Hindu wedding- oh the conflict. Glad it's on you, sir :D

Going in June 2 to get a tudor rose on my elbow, with a compass rose above it covering up some old garbage, my birthday is the 3rd so its my present to myself. Stoked to finally cover up that old tattoo, and i just got out of a job where i couldnt have tattoos visible with a t-shirt, so im happy to finally be able to go on/below the elbow!

Had to cancel my appointment... due to my paycheck now being almost two weeks late, and i have no clue when ill get it. Bastards. The shop was cool about it though, and after i explained, they told me (without me even mentioning it) that they would make a note of it and to come in and make a new appointment whenever i could, without paying another deposit (which i expected to lose when i canceled)

Personally I dont see a lot of Robert Ryan misses and recently ive been seeing him called "hit or miss". His style may not be for everyone but I look at this blog and see great, interesting and distinct traditional tattoos. I cant wait to get mine done (once my big work settles down).

In my opinion, the "misses" aren't so much the overall design or composition or anything like that.. His lines are a little loose for my liking, some of his tattoos turn out pretty clean but others it just looks like he blew through it and didn't take his time. Not talking bad about the guy or his art, just something that I personally wouldn't want tattooed on myself. He did do a pretty crazy torso piece recently that Im quite jealous of though!

@chrisnoluck, something that you have to keep in mind is that tattoos are hand-made and so many variables are put into play. some of the best tattooers, robert ryan included, understand and embrace it. if you want something "perfect" then get a robot to tattoo you, but don't forget to never let yourself get old, to wrinkle, to fade. i fully understand what you're saying, but i personally love seeing the human element in my work.

Oh no, I completely understand that. I've got quite a bit of tattoos and none of them are "perfect". I wasnt implying that I wanted a "perfect" tattoo or whatever, just giving my opinion.

I dig what you're saying- the lines are a little loose here and there. I was talking to a tattooer about it and we agreed that he does POWER tattoos- the images themselves, use of color and even those little imperfections add to the overall tattoo in an artistic way. Thom Devita has that same vibe and when you see it, it comes through true.

One of the things I dig about Bink's work is that it's simple. It's designed to look that way when you're 80. He's not going over every line five times, putting in details that won't hold. Just cuts to the core of the image, filters it through his aesthetic and knocks it out. They're certainly not for everyone, and I hold no ill will to people who don't dig it. But for me- that bold, simple folk style tattooing? No one working does it like he does. (thankfully, they all do it like they do, which is great, too!)

Shawn sir you're such a cad , at the heart of the matter is what you nonchalantly described on O.V. as your "sloppy thumbnail " . The folks here at LST , well aware of your prowess with the pencil know that was the spring board for a great tattoo and the kind of thing to send the boys at Skull and Sword scurrying for the local job-center .
