Visual tattoo opinions....

One of my customers decided she wanted to be a tattooer, later in life (close to 40) She went outside, to Oregon - to tattoo school or the like---her parents opened a shop for her here in Alaska.

She got the side of her face done with squiggles and flowers and has shaved her head and gotten it and her forehead done with a spiderwebs and roses.

In my opinion, this girl WAS super pretty----Beside the fact that the work is poorly done and not well placed -to me it just screams "look at me, i'm serious about this tattoo business , so serious that I got my whole beautiful face done!

I'm not a fan for the most part-- of facial tattoos.

I believe that some areas should be a prerequisite before getting others areas done.

I've mentioned to my husband that I wanted to get my hands done, and straight up told me no (which isn't something he does often) because I hadn't earned it yet.

i think it really makes sense to start with the upper arms, working downwards.. stopping at the hand.. getting your front, back, and legs.. then, if you really think you can live with it - hands, neck, face/head.

i'll almost certainly never get my hands/neck, etc, done.. just going on to my forearms will be something to really think about for me.

To be honest, I kind of like the idea of earning the tattoos on your hands and neck. I don't just mean already being tattooed (though, I totally agree that you should already have a more than decent amount of tattoos before getting really visible ones), but I also mean knowing you can get away with them, in a way. Any idiot with money can get a load of tattoos and then go for the jugular. When I get my hands and neck done, I'll get them done when I'm doing so well with my career that I know it won't have any effect on me. That's how I see earning your visible tattoos, and I like that. Plus, I really want those areas tattooed so it makes me work really hard.

I think your hands and neck are also the ones where you really want to go to the best tattooer you can physically get to, because they're so visible and kind of special. Even if that means waiting for ages on a waiting list, it shouldn't matter. Now, if only my neck was ridiculously long, then I won't have to have such a huge decision on my hands (literally! Wheeeey!) when the time comes, haha.

it's true. it amazes me how some people just get tattooed by anyone (cheap and local is the requirement for some). someone i know in australia "couldn't be bothered" to wait for four months for a great tattooer to go over there to work - this person also once got an infection from getting tattooed in someones living room - trying to 'help' people with this kind of thing is like banging your head against a wall sometimes - i just don't bother anymore.

What's funny is that I think now if you ask like 20 random young Americans if they like tattoos most will say, yeah. If you ask them about body suits they will say, no. If you ask them about hand and neck, a good amount will say, if they look nice. But for people that follow the old rules, you don't get those spots until last, not 3rd or 4th.

Me personally will not be getting my neck hands or face tattooed anytime soon. I work part time as a counter guy at a tattoo shop and my boss has had laser surgery to remove the tattoos on his hands because he hated them so much so I don't think he would tattoo my hands or neck if I asked. On the other hand it would affect my other job. I would not neccesarily lose my other job but I think it would hinder any promotions i might receive in the future.

The other reason is I like to fly under the radar. None of the guys who tattoo at the shop have their neck or hands done (anymore) and its nice to put on a pair of jeans and a pendleton and no one notice you at all. Meanwhile you point out people's horrible neck tattoos and bare arms. Don't get me wrong I love getting tattooed and am deteremined to be covered but until I am covered i will not entertain the idea of neck and hand tattoos.

i met scott harrison at an art opening he had in berlin a while ago. we were talking about neck tattoos, and he said, "neck tattoos are for posers, don't do it", though he has his own neck tattooed. i think a lot of people are in a rush to look tough and cool and get those spots done to prove it. in general, i think people with the neck, face, and hands tattooed are retarded.

From a work point of view anything on my hands, fingers or above a shirt collar would be a no-no.

I've still been debating about getting a piece that goes between my chest panels and fits up onto the lower part of my neck. I am thinking something that would fit like a sort of inverted triangle (like a bat or bird, head in the centre, wings rising on either side). I guess it would have to terminate under the collar of a buttoned-up shirt. If I didn't go onto the neck then just between the panels probably wouldn't be worthwhile in terms of the space offered I guess.

Lil wayne, game, wacka flocka, gucci, jon jones,Tech nine . Anyway I never hear sets when these guys are repping their shit just blood, damu, soowoo etc.

Remember what Todd Barry said about neck tattoos. "You forgot to not do that."

But seriously, I don't see myself ever being ever able to get my hands or neck done. I always thought it'd be a cool retirement gift to myself to get my hands done. It's such a great spot. Hopefully when I get to that age, retirement will still exist.
