@oboogie to clarify I said my tattoo was healed in the sense I stopped aftercare, after 2 weeks. It was in fact 2 and half weeks. I also said I was giving it time to "bed in". Now, I appreciate you may not be familiar with this phrase, so I will explain. "to bed in", means to give it time to settle in, to complete healing. And for the record, I am female :)

It was easier for this knee healing wise, than my other knee. Which struck me as odd since it was my bad knee, but not complaining :)

Yes it does take at least 4 weeks for a tattoo to fully heal, it takes 4 weeks for your body to heal/recover after a tattoo. Depending on what way you wish to word it.

@Gingerninja how is your little froggie doing? :)

@realsis looks good so far :)

I don't know what you being female has to do with anything? I am also female. So?

I know what "bed in" means. Why do you think I don't? I feel liking your being contrary for sport. Why are we having so much trouble communicating? Hahaha. :4_joy:

And no. Tattoos aren't healed in four weeks, either. It takes months. It is superficially healed after a few weeks. But it is not healed. Anyway, have a fine evening! :14_relaxed:

Day 2 still quite swollen and hot but no real redness. Do you all think I should add a few more flowers? Should I stop here or bring it up the entire leg? Your ideas are welcome!a14478ce88bc9d235a95889d6e9c3fcd.jpg

I have both my hands tattooed and my hands swell a lot ! the pain level in my hands was not bad at all,but they puff up pretty good.so don't worry about the swelling, pretty normal IMO and it will go away, just try and keep your feet elevated as much as possible and take some OTC anti-inflammatory.

and IMO up the entire leg would look pretty fuckin' nice.

Hey @purplelace, it's healing. The scab is gone but there's a 1/2" section that's still raised and settling in. I bet it will be another two weeks before that area is completely healed. Thankfully, I work mostly from home so I can wear shorts and keep my leg elevated. :) Thank you for asking!

Thanks! Cant believe how swollen ankle and calf ended up! Especially where he connected the two tattoos. But it doesn't hurt and it's not in the itching stage yet. I dont have any redness just swelling. I'm looking forward to taking the tattoo farther up but have to do little at a time because I'm short on$$. It will get finished someday. Hopefully soon.

This should most likely go in the Ladies Thread...I cannot wait to shave. This summer has been the summer of the post tattoo, healing, hairy legs. I am blonde so it is not overwhelming visible but if the light hits just right, it's so furry.

This is 7 days after my first tattoo. Any advice for me because I have been doing research but wanted to see what others experiences are during this time line.

I talked to my artist and sent a photo.

I used aquaphor and I think it irritated part of the heavily worked areas. (Blue )

does it appear to be a reaction to product or over worked? I don’t have any visual references. Thanks all.

Hi all !

Yesterday I made my first tattoo here in Lisbon, Portugal.

Yesterday it looked like this:

Today the blue color is a bit strange, like this:

After the tattoo yesterday I wear a plastic for 3 hours, then cleaned with water and glicerina soap, and applied some kind of ointment whit aloe Vera and other stuff.

I slept with a new plastic around the tattoo this night and today cleaned it well, like I was told at the shop.

Do you think there is something wrong ?

I’m really a newbie in this subject...

Thanks for your help !

@Cosmo It's way too soon to tell anything. Keep it clean and lightly moisturize...and don't pick at it. 🙂  If any area gets red, swollen or you see pus then call a doctor. Otherwise, it looks like a tattoo that is in the process of healing. Leave ANY scabs alone!

@Gingerninja I noticed a small amount of “pus” that came out two days ago. It is red around the edge where that was happening. I felt a piece fall off today and underneath is wet of course ... I call the advice nurse and talked to a dr. I got prescribed a topical cream and medication to be safe. It feels hot and I feel like something is not quite right in the dark blue areas as they are very lumpy and strange feeling/sensitive. Thanks for your comments. I will keep that in mind as well.

Looks ok, but leave it alone.

Never let a fresh tattoo get wet enough for scabs to get anywhere close to being soft.

I don't see any real need for antibiotics, but personally I shy away from anything that keeps a dry wound moist.

    • @tertia - kind of a late response to this, but that's is a very nice rose. Very bold and solid. Congrats!
    • @Charmed– I'm definitely a fan of large pieces and heavy coverage. But I have to say that there is sometimes something very dramatic about a single well-placed tattoo, and yours falls into that category. It is like a single painting hanging in the middle of a wall, it sort of focuses the eye. Very pretty! That being said, the wrapping idea sounds nice. Alternatively, since you seem to be inclined to get more tattoos, maybe you could move to another part of your body for your next piece, and let this one sit for a while as you ponder ideas for your leg. As @Hogrider said, think about where you want to go with your leg. Do you want an integrated large piece, or a collection of pieces?
    • I'm a month shy of 25y/o.  I'm just not a movie guy; I'm a comic book and punk guy.  I also like the Mohawk Hot stuff, very 80's-90's NYHC. Wonderful tattoo though, lets not take away from that.

Hey everyone! I'm a 20 year old college student just looking to talk tattoos with someone every now and again. I have one tattoo, and it's only 4 days old! In two weeks I'll be getting my second one, and I'm super excited. I hope you folks don't mind answering a couple questions I have regarding my tattoo. First, I notice a bit of blowout. I was wondering if a little bit of blowout is normal, and if it will go away. Secondly, I was not instructed to wrap it every day, so I have not been doing that. I have been, however, washing it and applying a bit of lotion on it twice a day. I want to know if I'll be alright just doing that, or if I need to take other measures as far as aftercare goes.
I'll provide photos :) Let me know what you all think! Thanx!

      Hello tattoo enthusiasts!
I am posting here today because 5 days ago I got a beautiful Buddhist mantra tattooed on my inner forearm and there seem to be a few color irregularities and a kind of hole. It was wrapped in plastic when I left the tattoo shop I did everything my tattoo artist told me to do except one thing. When I went to buy bacticrin or wtv it's called I could not find it, so I bought tattoo goo instead. Seems legit I checked online many agree it works well. So pretty much since I took the bandage off five days ago it has been covered in a very thin layer (as thin as possible) of tattoo goo. So far it's been good but now the two most important parts of my tattoo are experience some spots of color loss also the beginning of the tattoo nearest the hand is the same color as the end, yet it seems darker. The black in tattoo is behaving beautifully not red itchy or anything it almost looks like it's healed. It's only two parts of blue that are giving me trouble. I've been thinking about going back to the tattoo parlour but it's pretty far. But it's a reputable place and the tattoos he's done and drawings he's done were beautiful. http://i.imgur.com/Tz48BMC.jpg

Hello, my name is Virginia and I went through all this trouble to create an account because I'd really, really like some opinions on my first tattoo I had done this Saturday (right in between my shoulder blades) My tattoo artist is out of town and the place I went was really far, its not like I can just make a quick trip. I don't know if this is normal or if its just my skin, but I have been following her aftercare instructions to the "t". Removed bandage after 4 hours, applied A&D lightly for 3 days, washed 3 times a day with anti-bacterial soap, then switched to fragrance free lotion (i used aveeno). Its only been 5 days and the parts that are purple scabbed really really bad, and it has faded so much.
This tattoo means a lot to me as it represents Crohn's Disease, and needs to be purple since that is the official color, which I suffer from, I'm very sad how much the tattoo has fallen and its only been 5 days. It seems only the parts that were purple scabbed and faded. My artist said she'll gladly touch it up for me.
Has this happened to anyone? Is it just natural for the color to fade this much? Could it be because my skin is dark? Could it be the ink, like maybe I need a different brand or color of purple? Or just any opinions on what/where I went wrong?
Here's a picture. The picture on the left was the best I had of how it did look, on the right is how it looks now and the scabs. ):

It's red and warm, and very bothersome. Bacitracin was put on it an hour before this picture was taken. The 1st two days, no lotion was used. From Day 3 on only Lubriderm, sparingly.

Just was inquiring had anything like this happen or heard of it; hubby and I just had more tattoos done. Mine healed just fine with those products ( cream and foam). Hubby used them in the past just fine. But this time his lower arm is just a huge rash, quite painful. Thank God his tattoo did not discolor or anything ( fleur de lys and dagger). But the doctor thinks it is an allergic reaction to those products... Will take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to heal ( some of the sores were bleeding..). Just buyer beware..,,
