Here I go, probably freaking out over some thing that just needs more healing time. My tattoo is now on its 5th day of healing, and doing really well! My left rose is almost completely peeled and hasn't been swollen or red for a few days. However, on the right rose, its mostly peeled but one leaf has this thick scab that developed around the 2nd day, but hasn't shown any signs of peeling or softening. Now there's also a scab/scar forming near the outline on the red part of the petal near it (you can see it in the picture). I've heard of people getting thick scabs that eventually fall off and pull all of the ink out, which would be a huge bummer.

Has any one had a similar experience and how did it turn out for you? I'm going to stop putting lotion or aquaphor on that leaf for now and see if that helps. But its strange only part of the tattoo is reacting this way.

(On a side note: my healing method is to leave the bandage on overnight, wash it good in the morning and let it dry out for about 24 hours, but washing it 3-5x that first day. Then I wash it about 3x a day and only apply a thin layer of aquaphor after it dries out completely after washing. Once it starts peeling, I continue washing it 3x a day and only put aveeno lotion on it after I wash it and dry it.)

I would say just continue with the lotion and don't try to peel it, let if fall off naturally. I had one area on my arm that scabbed like that and once it was healed you could not tell anything was wrong at all. If there is any loss of color you can just get it touched up. Most, if not all, artists do this for free.

You're actually babying it too much. You're gonna need to let it dry out completely. After a day or two, you can start putting some Lubriderm on it. That scab will take a little longer to heal, but if you let it be it should heal just fine.

Poster @Graeme recently got a tattoo that hardcore scabbed up. It happens. While it does need a bit of touching up, most of it came off just fine on its own time. Definitely took longer to fall off than usual, which makes sense for more intense scabbing. Let your body do what it needs to do.

I understand you concern, as I don't recall Scott Sylvia traveling to NYC much, so a touch up probably not feasible, but I think if you leave it alone, just try to forget about it and let it do its thing. I have had much worse scabs that healed fine. I feel like the pigment is in there and should heal in there as long as it's allowed to do so.

Is the spot on a skin crease from body movement? also assuming you are right handed, hence why its only the right rose. The only scab I have had from my last 8 tattoos was on my arm ditch from too much movement, I did keep it moist to stop it cracking and was carefull not to knock it off, it healed fine in the end.

Nice roses btw.

Thanks!

I am right handed, so that may be the case. The leaves are on my chest, so it may be that I have clothing straps rubbing on it and when I sleep it probably folds together in that spot. I was wondering if maybe its only the right rose because it was tattooed second and I had a lot more pain with that one. One the whole, my left rose is healing much faster and easier. Kind of strange.

    • Hello! I have been searching the web for a couple days and can’t find something similar to my situation right now. I will admit first off I am pretty paranoid due to my anxiety, BUT I have never dealt with a tattoo healing this way and it’s scaring me it won’t heal correctly! I got my first thigh piece on the 5th so a little over a week ago.  I started seeing some redness on I’d say the third and was worried about it being infected even though it didn’t hurt or wasn’t warm to the touch. Even to now it doesn’t hurt or is warm to the touch. The red has faded quite a bit and was all over the place red in random spots and now it’s just pink in certain spots and has calmed down a lot BUT I’m now seeing it’s starting to get pink spots in places it wasn’t before?! WHAT?! I have done everything. I was washing it two-three times a day (2 for work days) and applied lotion each time. I have seen my artist about this and she said it could be just irritated from clothes rubbing on it (the first two days it did get rubbed on a lot) I do work at Ulta so I am on feet constantly and moving up and down and running around so maybe my clothes are causing it? I was using a tattoo goo kit but my artist recommended to switch back to antibacterial dial handsoap (I’ve always used this with no problems) because it shouldn’t be as abrasive and gave me hustle butter. I’m now seeing those new pink spots after using the hustle butter so could my skin not like the ingredients which hustle butter had similar ingredients to what my tattoo artist used to “oil” up the skin for the tattoo.  I’m really worried how it is healing ruined this piece as well and I know you usually can’t tell until it’s almost fully healed through it’s stages but it’s still worrying me. I’m trying to figure out everything and retrace to calm it down. Any advice is appreciated and I’m so sorry for how long this is and my ramblings.    I will be attaching in order 1. When it was first done  2. Where it was red and irritated (you can see barely irritation in the carrot tops)  3. How it looks now (more mild pink irritation in the carrot tops as well as other places)

    • You’ll have to go to an artist for pricing anyone here would just be guessing. The person doing the tattoo will probably draw it up as close as possible to the mold and you can decide if it’s good enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
