Just got my 1st tat last week. And before this tat I told myself it would be the only one. Well I am looking for a design for my second. :) Here is a pic of my tat and opinions are welcome of the quality. And for sun block...when can I start putting it on the fresh tat? <a href=1003322_178298509017887_1765957915_n_zps The tat in this pic is 12 hours old.

sick tat bro
Thank you.
Always consult the person who did the tattoo for any healing related questions. Period. They applied the tattoo and will be able to answer any questions you have.
I did. He said no sun block. But I am going to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in 9 days and my tat is 6 days old or fresh. Swimming and lots of sun are in our plans.

Not anymore. Your tattoo will get destroyed....I promise.

Wait as long as possible to put sunblock on it. And that saltwater is literally going to shred your tattoo. Depending on how you heal...it may not be healed by the time your trip comes around.

could you use a waterproof dressing to cover it? Put something that won't adhere to the healing tattoo directly over it and then cover that with a waterproof tape. You will look strange on the beach, but its a small price to pay to protect your tattoo.

I guess you didn't really want a nice tattoo. Here's a hint for the future...don't ask for advice and then ignore it. That is an asshole move.

Wow. Hyper sensitive would be an under statement. My tat will be 15 days old when i get there. My bud who is tatted up sleeve to sleeve said should not be a problem. Just trying to get another opinion. Asshole move? You really need to check yourself.

Im sure your "tatted up" buddy has better knowledge than the person who tattooed you right? He would probably know more about how a tattoo heals than someone who actually tattoos. Seriously guy, the person with the answers you needed gave you the correct answer and because you didn't like the answer, you ignored it. When you only listen to the things you want to hear, you miss the things you need to hear.

i have one sick ass tatt that i kinda did not take care of in the summertime(sun, water whatnot)and it looks like shit. it's what happens. as simple as that.

Looks like I will be touching it up here in 6 months. I travel to the Dominican Republic every 3-4 weeks. And beach and pool are in the middle our activities. I work outside here in Texas and am wearing a long sleeved shirt for protection. By the hot as hell. But hanging out at the beach with a long sleeved shirt is another thing. So looks like sun block will have to be in the plans. Thank you for your info.

Waterproof dressing? Like what? Waterproof tape. now that sounds like a good idea. Duct tape?

Best bet would be a thin long sleeve shirt. I have to wear one for work, and although it does get warm, I will take having to drink a little extra water and being uncomfortable over messing up permanent art that I spent a lot of money on.

I guess duct tape would not be the best thing then. Maybe the casinos would be better for the tat. lol. And thanks.

With 15 days of healing, you will be able to put sunscreen on it. You will be able to go into a pool or the ocean, and if it gets wet it won't hurt it (much), but don't soak it. So splashing around in with kids will be ok, or kind of just hanging out in a pool or whatever but actually swimming is not a good idea. The sunscreen should be considered protection while you are in the pool/ocean - and that time should be limited.

You should have it covered the rest of the time.

I'm basing the above opinion on my own experience. For my '1st Tat' I got it 16 days before going to Vegas. I put sunscreen on it and went in the pool, but kept my shoulder out of the water as much as possible, and stayed in the shade as much as I could too. My tattoo suffered no obvious ill effects.

People are honestly just trying to help you out. You might find some responses perhaps a little snarky, but I would hope you can see it from their side. People on this site are passionate about their work, trying to make sure that people are educated enough to take care of their current and future art. If you ask a question and then dismiss the response, that seems disrespectful, not only to them but to the art itself. Go to reddit if you just want to ignore people.

Tattoing isn't just a fad to them, some shiny object to be picked up one second only to be discarded and forgotten the next. If you are willing to put something on your body, it shouldn't be for you either. You may have yolo'd your way into this tattoo, but respect it enough to take care of it so that it doesn't look like crud down the road.

Best of luck, have fun playing blackjack.

People have given their answers to your question, and it seems you are ignoring them. This really is fine but I don't understand the point of asking the question. Most posters at LST genuinely try to give the best advice. In the end it is your body and your tattoo, so if you'd like to risk it, that is fine.

As far as live and let live, then come back in for a touch, you might hit some friction there. I know anyone who has tattooed me has no problem doing free touchups IF you follow their directions for aftercare.. If you disregard their professional opinion, I'm sure they will touch it up, but at a price.

As far as my one personal experience with this, I can say. I've modified the last 3 summers to no pools, direct sun, oceans, beachers, etc because I invested some serious cash, time, pain and my artist's time into my tattoos, and until I'm done healing them all, I will keep doing that. Yea it can suck but I also don't want a wrecked tattoo.
