I know this is a tattoo forum, but sometimes talking about about tattoo designs or tattoo care can get boring. I would love to get to know everyone better.

I thought we could maybe talk about some of our travels. the good, the bad, the ugly.

We travel to Mexico and Hawaii alot because of convenience and the need to just get somewhere hot and gorge on fish tacos. My husband and I got married in Cabo in 2006 with about 56 friends and family. we were a motley crew with our officient completely tattooed and a large share of our guests with their fair share on skin art. We go back to the resort every year and have even gone down with the sylvia's and lochlan (you can see some of their fishing pics in Loch's image gallery).

I have also travelled to france, spain, and Italy.

One of my favorite trips was in 2006 when I took my fiance (now husband) with me and my family to vietnam. What a trip. great food, amazing culture, kind people.

I'll try to find some pics to post.

Where have you travelled either for work or pleasure?

Tammy, I think this is very fitting as one of the main themes I will have in my tattoo blog is "Tattoos and Traveling". I think it is relevant as sometimes it can make traveling very difficult be it the locals and/or authorities or very easy.

Dreams resort in Cabo San lucas is a blast! If you all feel inclined check out my photos and feel free to ask me any questions. The resort if nicely located about half a hour from the airport and is all inclusive (free food, drinks, etc twenty four seven!). This past summer I brought most of my family with us and they enjoyed it too including my nephew. He loved that he had so much autonomy and for the most part could do as he pleased and my sister could relax knowing it was a safe and kid friendly resort. Then if you like to surf the main spot for Cabo is a quick bus ride or drive away. We got some fun waves this year with a small and sometimes no crowd sessions.

Alright here a quick list goes of my top five travel destinations:

1. St. Barth's

2. Anguilla

3. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, etc

4. New Orleans

5. St. John

Damn five was difficult maybe next time i'll tackle top ten travel destinations with tattoos in my blog?!?!

Thanks for starting this tattoo and travel thread Tammy!

I am happiest when I am traveling the world, preferably a place with beaches, hot weather and of course, delicious food! Last year I went everywhere- Hawaii, Tampa ( for the Superbowl, not just to hang out!), St Barths, Anguilla, St Maarten, Aspen, Vancouver, Santa Barbara, Las Vegas and Miami. This year has been less exciting, just making it to Cabo and New Orleans.

Here is a list of my top 5:

St Barths

Paris

Vietnam

New Orleans

Venice

If haven't noticed by now, I am a bit of a Francophile and if a place has French influence, I am sold!

The Green Sand Beach in Hawaii is one of only a few in the world. The sand consists of spheres of olivine, or peridot. Each grain is a clear olive green. White sand primarily is quartz, which is an uncolored silicate (SiO2), and other light-colored minerals (white sand beaches in Hawaii, on the other hand, are almost entirely made from smoothed shells, or calcium carbonate, rather than inorganic minerals). Olivine is another silicate, though with magnesium and iron in its crystal matrix. The metals are responsible for the characteristic color.

I recently spent a few weeks in Japan visiting some of my family who is in the Military. That country is amazing. I mostly stayed around the Yokouska/Yokohama area, and had a wonderful time. Only regret is not climbing Fuji, but seeing it from the base was incredible.

A few years ago I also volunteered in Lima, Peru for a couple of weeks. I mostly worked out of a school in the district of Villa El Salvador where I painted a few school rooms, and sat in on some classes and helped out the kids and shit. Also, I broke edge in Peru which was awesome. The rest of my mornings in Peru were miserable, and now I really love drinking.

I hear Japan is amazing and have had lots of friends go and they always bring me back the most random awesome stuff. I am a sucker for Japanese Marketing especially their candy's and sodas! It is by far in my top three places i wish to go.

Did you enjoy volunteering internationally or is that why you broke edge?

I loved volunteering Internationally and will say it is the best way to travel anywhere. I broke edge because I was wanting to really experience the full nature of Peru. I also had Coco tea (made from the leaves of Cocaine) and it was pretty intense. I would never do cocaine, but the Tea was pretty intense. Its like 5 cups of coffee in one cup.

Japan is insane. The amount of vending machines are unreal. EVERYTHING is in coffee machines. When I was there, Tommy Lee Jones was on a poster for BOSS coffee. He looked really intense and scary (Kinda like in MIB).

Highly recommend Japan and Central/South America.

Coco tea sounds like what I need every morning if it is equal to five cups of coffee, mmmm, drinking my evening cup now! sounds like a good reason to break edge that you're okay with.

Thanks for the recommendations if only I had the money to support all the traveling desires. I have thought about doing the international volunteering to travel as the work I have been mainly doing for the past few years is relevant. I hope to do lots of work in the Caribbean with teens once done with grad school. I tried looking into grad schools in Puerto Rico but ended up in the program I am in before I ever heard back. Also have been talking with this doctor in St. Lucia that I hope to connect with down the line. I am a sucker for the Caribbean so to do work there would be fulfilling on many levels.

I highly reccomend you go! I went to Japan in '05 with a group of youth and we taught english to highschool and kindergaden kids for 2 weeks. we did a whole bunch of sightseeing in our time off and it was one the best trip of my short life so far. the japanese people are sooo kind and so hospitable, they would give you the shirt off your back if you asked for it. i accumulated a suitcase full of souveniers and crap(stickers, posters, fans, all things with scrapbooking potential) to take home. I was staying in Tsukuba City for the durantion of my trip jumping around from different homes. we went into some of the big cities and i was just blown away by the culture, the buildings, the color, the costumes and the huge TVs. the small towns and villages are just as amazing, the houses and gardens and so full of detail! the whole trip blew my mind and i still remember everything as if it happened yesterday. i met so many unforgettable people and made so many incredible connections. i cant wait to go back and who knows maybe this summer will be my chance!

the other amazing place i visited was Portugal! I went there this past spring with my dad. ever since i was alittle girl i have wanted to go and i finally got my chance. my grandmother talked so highly of her old home and her country. we packed so much sightseeing into one week and still didnt get to do everything on our list. we stayed in downtown Lisbon, downtown is so colorful and beautiful. all the sidewalks are desinged with small black and white marble stones. we took walks every night and we even walked to the building where my dad was born and lived for the first 10 years befoer immigrating with my grandparents to Canada. we visited family and they showed us around and took us to some of the most beautiful beaches and light houses. places that no big tour company could possibly take you. the overall feeling of the trip was that i found where i would belong if i didnt already have a life in Canada.

these trip inspired me so much that i know that in my future there will be tattoos to commorate my passion for these places that i have visited.

Just got back from the Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas. That place is insane! It's like Vegas on a Caribbean island. There's watersides, the best lazy river, a monstrous aquarium, a casino, tons of beaches, a free movie theater, and delicious restaurants. The aquarium has sharks and huge sting rays in it. One of the waterslides is a tunnel that goes thru the aquarium. When we hit the tunnel, there was a shark just napping on it, a foot above our heads. Fuckin nuts! This was also where Casino Royale was filmed. When we were there, the Top Chef reunion was being filmed so we met Gail Simmons in a restaurant. Was also lucky enough to meet Santana Moss who us my fave player on the Redskins. Highly recommend visiting this place once in your life.
