I'm much better, now. Two days last week sucked pretty bad, but it went away completely.

When I was a kid, we made our own outfits, kind of competed with them. All our parents would do was find old shirts and stuff for us. Nowadays I pretty much ignore it. Kids grown and we live too far out of town for kids to make it to our door. Never got into the horror movies that are so popular now, with the exception of old b&w classics. An old fuddy-duddy I guess.

Now, Groundhog Day - that peps me right up!

Glad your back recovered well!

We always had cheap store-bought costumes when I was a kid, but my children are somewhat spoiled there, because their mama likes to go all out for costumes. And they're usually handmade, because their mama is also a stickler for detail and possibly also a masochist. I couldn't find a storebought costume that was detailed enough for Daughter's (she wants to be a specific Disney princess), and none of the available sewing patterns were just right, so this year I even drafted an entire pattern for hers. Wearing a costume is half the fun for me. Guess I just haven't outgrown it yet :) I just don't like the sewing part.

I've had friends with that and remember their suffering. One of my bosses eventually had to have a large section removed, then after that healed they built him a new (I called it a semi-colon) one and re-attached. He worked very hard to regain strength each time and in a couple years was fine! Hopefully yours can be treated without the surgery.

@Tornado6 sending some positive vibes, from this internet stranger. My little brother has been going through the exact same thing for a couple years. It hurts to watch a young man not get to enjoy being a young man because of bullshit health issues and runarounds from specialists. But he has a good attitude about a "shitty" thing. And myself with a mild/med case of the Crohns. Drinking hot water religiously and meditation has helped both of us deal with our conditions. So important to keep the body relax as the stress has a big impact on the condition. We've learned to identify our stress triggers and biofeedback.

In fact, I've found tattooing, although painful, has helped me deal. I got my stomach tattooed around the same time my condition was at it's worst. Stomach is nasty to tattoo, but the pain is trivial compared to what you are going through. The tattooing helps me focus, helps me breathe, helps me learn to relax under the stress. And there is something quite profound about watching/feeling your body heal afterwards, internally and externally. It gives me hope and confidence that my body can heal itself. Best wishes

I was going to say my dog dying (its ok she was 16), doing finals for my MBA program, and getting a sleeve lasered/redone.... But after reading some of these I realize all that shit is nothing compared to what some are going through, I will have my entire family around me this holiday season and they are all healthy and I need to thank my damn lucky stars for that. I hope you all have a great holiday/christmashunukakwanzaka or whatever you celebrate, and find some blissful happiness this season.

Preparing to sit out 24 hours of blizzard here in Boston. I've also had the flu since last Wednesday but finally feel great today - just in time to be housebound for another couple days. At least I made it out to the packy (which was much busier than the grocery store).

Not bad shitty, but a little sucky. Water line between our house and the daughter's sprung about its tenth leak (nice $200 bill) and I had a plumber out for an estimate to replace the whole thing. Gonna run about $2k. Shazbot! At least he can start early next week. Until fixed, she'll be showering here and flushing with a bucket.

So much snow.

I'm supposed to shovel and make a stew for dinner but I accidentally haven't gotten out of my pyjamas yet. For anyone else in New England, this recipe is fantastic if you feel the need to eat a disgusting amount of protein after all that shoveling: Chiddingly hotpot | Delicious.

There is no place to put the snow anymore but luckily it is still the light and powdery variety so it hasn't been back breaking work.

Looking for a new job (which is actually not shitty at its core, it's just shitty trying to find the new job), was supposed to go see my grandfather today but I woke up sick. That's shitty - especially as for the past 3-4 weeks I've had to postpone for one reason or another.

Shoveled the walk and 20 percent of the driveway, gave in to my sciatica and went inside to drink. The novelty of this has worn off.

Oh yeah... you guys got boned with the Snow Powerball this year... think we're up to a total accumulation around 40" so far this season. We had the 20" in one shot last month. Glad as hell that I have a big snow blower to help me dig out.

My job is basically the last ditch guy at security sites; I go in when someone takes leave, gets canned, or the spot can't be filled. Lately I've been working fifty to sixty hour weeks, and not only am I unhappy with it, but the missus as well. Just makes me look forward to the three days off I'm taking after my ink at end of March. After that I need to let my scheduler know he's gonna leave me homeless if he doesn't appease me and the lady. Not fun.

Tomorrow we go to the house where dad's body lay for a month before we had the cops break the door down. He was a hoarder to top it off. Shudder.

I feel for you. When my dad passed I was on a sub at sea. My uncle hired some local guys to clean, box his stuff, and put it in a storage barn before I got home. Made things a lot easier for both of us (they were very close). Time, if you have it, eases a lot of pain, if you let it.

So I started my day at 3 in the afternoon. Week two of working 56 hrs. First thing I see is two missed calls and two new messages. Message one: "hey this is blah at exile 2, your artist can't do the 28th, but he's free the 21st, call back". Message two: "hey this is blah with blah security, call us back". So I call the shop and tell them I'll make it work, then try to get ahold of my scheduler and of course he's taking a three day weekend. Put a pin in it, call the other chick back and she wants me to take another eight hours, HA, good effing luck! I'm juggling all this in my brain as I get on the highway, get a call back from another site supervisor and right as I pick up, truck starts dying. So I'm sitting there with this longwinded guy going on in my ear about the schedule with my hazard lights on and guys coming within an inch of me on the shoulder. Finally pull into a starbucks, get off the phone, call AAA and I figure wtf. I DESERVE a venti white chocolate mocha. So I go in, and as I come out I fell in my pockets. Where. The hell. A tr e my keys. Look in the window;doors locked, keys in the cupholder. Thank god my back window latch is busted, I had to squeeze through that to get them. Long story short - if you wake up at three with missed calls, don't answer!
