So I know the thread Cable Invasion was started around the rumors of a new tattoo TV show in New York and since it has kind of been announced that it is true I thought I would start a thread for discussion. Below is one of the few things in the press about this new show for those interested. I have heard things in other arenas from various people but don't want to be the one to bring it to the surface, however, if those who are on this tattoo forum want to share what they know have at it. There are/is some tattooers on this forum that will be on it and I think the tattoos that come from these individuals will continue to be impressive.

From my understanding one of the big beefs with this show are the misconceptions around tattooing, tattooers, and tattoo shops that are portrayed to potential tattoo customers. Some of this has been discussed in the Good Tattoo Customer Behavior thread and elsewhere on our tattoo forum. One of my favorite quotes which if anyone knows anything about the previous tattoo shows on TLC and elsewhere comes from Tim Hendricks in that thread who has been on the show(s). It seems to have fallen through the cracks as no one commented on it so here it is again if you missed it,

It's pretty simple, unless you're super thick headed or have a mental disorder, being respectful in any close quarters one on one situation isn't that hard to figure out, but I guess people always seem to find a way to screw it up. Everything I've read so far is solid advise. Just DON'T use any of the TV shows as reference, trust me when I say it's all total staged bullshit and it never goes down like that in a real shop. The only thing that's real on the shows is the actual tattoo.
.

With that have at it....

-Your thoughts?

-Have you been tattooed on any of these tattoo shows? What was you experience? Note: this could get interesting as many don't know about the tattooers shown on the show and those behind the scenes.....

-Have you tattooed on these shows? What was your experience?

-Do you watch these tattoo TV shows? Favorite and/or least favorite parts?

-and whatever else you feel like weighing in on

-If you could do your own tattoo tv show/ docu-series how would you do it?

Here is one of the few press articles out there on the new NY Ink show by the New York Post:

'Ink' is spreading to NYC next

By MICHAEL STARR

New York City is about to get some TV "Ink."

TLC, which airs "Miami Ink" and "LA Ink," is expanding its franchise with "NY Ink," an eight-episode series scheduled to premiere in June. The hour-long series, headlined by "Miami Ink" star Ami James, will be set at a venue called the Wooster Street Social Club in SoHo, which is currently under construction.

Production on "NY Ink" is scheduled to begin in mid-March.

The show will include an entirely new cast, who'll join James, the brash breakout star of "Miami Ink," which premiered in 2005.

Both "LA Ink" and "Miami Ink" have performed well for TLC.

"LA Ink" has garnered, well, some more ink recently, since its star, Kat Von D, recently announced her engagement to Jesse James, who famously cheated on his ex-wife, Oscar winner Sandra Bullock. "LA Ink" averaged 1.5 million viewers last year.

The "Miami Ink" fan site on TLC averaged 2.5 million page views a month between June and December.

I admit I watched Miami and LA Ink pretty regulary because I wanted to see the finished tattoos that were done. It became increasingly difficult to sit through the drama, though, just to see a finished tattoo. I especially liked the work of Hendricks and Garver and then Cory Miller, Dan Smith and Hurtado.

What I don't understand is what Ami James has to do with NY Ink? For me, that's an immediate turn off.

I watch these shows too..I like to see good tattooing done without all the drama. But drama seems to sell. The last few seasons of LA Ink was terrible. So much bullshit drama,it just turns you off.Miami Ink was much better.I was on Ami James website a few days ago reading about the new show for NYC,and he say's they start shooting in March.I wouldn't get tattooed on a show like that.First of all,the price's must be outrageous, and i don't wan't to come up with a story to tell, just to get a tattoo.I was watching a repeat of Miami Ink a few months ago,and a dude was on the show getting a tattoo because he overcame an addiction to porn.

I enjoyed the tattoo wars series..The best shows on tattooing..Not enough drama to sell though.

I thought the shows were pretty bad. I could care less about the drama( there's so much of that crap on tv anyway ) but the thing that blew me away the most was an ad for a Spaulding starter kit aired during L. A. Ink!!! It was a slap in the face! They should have sold Kat V face tat stickers instead.

If you have a burning desire to be tattooed on NY Ink or by Tim Hendricks, here's your big chance. My story behind the next tattoo I want from Tim is just dumb enough that I bet they'd take me:

NY INK

I know I am a hard man to get a tattoo from, and I get a lot of emails about when I’ll be taking appointments again. Well now is your chance to get an appointment.

The producers of LA Ink and Miami Ink are looking for people who want amazing tattoos with amazing stories behind them who live in New York, if you don’t live in New York you must be available to come to New York City.

If you are interested please email them immediately and tell them your story. Email: billywonka@aol.com

Please put “NY INK” in the subject title

Include your name, age, where you live, TEL #, type of tattoo you want (be as detailed as possible), your photo, your occupation, tell us your story behind what you want to get and tell us if you have other tattoos already.

That's priceless. What was the tattoo?

I think he got a dragon,or a koi fish..I just couldn't believe he actually wen't on a show and admitted that. His fiancee caught him looking at porn on the internet, and she said she wouldn't marry him unless he stopped. He said he called his priest up,and he gave him a number to a therapist that helped him stop.

I like to see the tattoo he get's when she catches him watching porn again and divorces him.

My buddy Bruehl and I once conspired to get on LA INKED by telling the producers that we were two of DR. BRONNER's adopted children, and that we wanted Kat to tattoo portraits of him on us. With banners that read ALL ONE OR NONE.

Had we just said we were addicted to porn.... we wouldn't have had to lie.

Why didn't you?! It was a great idea, and now you can live the dream, just not with Kat.

Anything a person says about somebody with celebrity status, is often perceived as envy or jealousy.

But unfortunately for the person who seeks fame---- like those discussed on a different thread( Jonathan Shaw, Gil, Roy Boy, Crazy Ace, Kat etc -- open discussion, judgement and criticism comes with the territory.

For anyone interested here is the latest that we have heard....The location for TLC's new tattoo reality show, NY Ink, has begun filming by taking appointments and doing walk-ins. The new tattoo shop is located at 43 Wooster in Manhattan, New York and named Wooster Street Social Club. From what we have heard around various tattoo communities the tattoo artist cast for the upcoming show to be aired around June 2011 is:

-Ami James (Tattooer previously on Miami Ink)

-Tim Hendricks (Tattooer previously on Miami Ink)

-Tommy Montoya (Tattooer from LA)

-Megan Massacre (Tattooer from Philly)

-Billy DeCola (Ami James apprentice on Miami Ink who is now tattooing)

Also...

-Luke Wessman (Tattooer from Miami Ink and Lucky's Tattoo Parlor in San Diego) has been there tattooing these past few weeks doing walk-ins.

I was in a hotel room the other night with my husband and some friends and I shushed everyone in the room when the commercial came on myself. I'm not a reality show person myself, but I think that this one's gonna be tops.
