I think, speaking as an apprentice Tattoo Artist that a lot of people in my position and my age view tribal as a negative word. There seems to be a stigma towards tattooing tribal due to the lack of understanding about it i think. If people took the time to research the origins of the designs and the reasoning behind certain tribal tattooing then I think there would be a greater respect for it.

also cause so many people around the globe do it so badly.. it can be some of the best stuff to have tattooed on you if you go to the right people.. alot of people think of a spiky blob on someones arm when they think 'tribal', unfortunately.

Can you guys please recommend me a good blackwork/Black-Gray tattoo specialist in New York? I'm looking to get a raven-sleeve on my forearm.

Thomas Hooper's work is amazing and I'd love to get tattooed by him but he's in Texas.

John Sultana, Zach Scheinbaum, and Anderson Luna at Saved Tattoo. Tamara does some rad black and grey as well.

Rich Cahill at NY Adorned.

I've also been researching artists in NYC that do black-gray. I like the artists recommended so far. Add Dan Trocchio to your list. I'm very happy with the skull he just did for me. He has a nice raven with a geometric background on his website. tattoos | Daniel Trocchio

My octopus by Yoni Zilber is in progress and is coming out great so far.

I'm finding with these popular artists, they choose you as much as you choose them. They may be booked for a while, traveling or not interested in your subject. Might want to pick several artists in case your 1st choice doesn't work out.

Fellow pure black work admirers..

I wonder if any of you see the same problem as me

B&G is what draws me to get a tattoo, but real life B&G ive spotted on the street, court, gym, bus, tube made me cringe (this is not about design its about pigment vs epidermis problem) i assure you that all amazing artist has nothing to do with this.

Those B&Gs turn dark green/blue which removes completely its charm (don't ask me to put some pics on, you know damn well what i mean).

To my taste by the end of first year only B&Gs with balanced negative space within the piece could retain its appeal

like this works for example Curly Tattoomonger

otherwise it would be a flat blob of single toned dark green

so the question is, anyone knows the best black ink that holds up?

thank you
