IMO as long as you have earned the right to have hand and neck tattoos then there are no other rules,

the only thing  IMO is that your first tattoos should never be hand or neck tattoos.

I have both hands and both sides of my neck tattooed, do whatever you and the artist think looks good to you and on you.

Unrelated: This reminds me of that woman who got upset that a really good tattoo artist refused to tattoo her kid's name on her neck in an ugly font. She had one or two other tiny tattoos, and she wrote a whole article about how awful he was and how she got some hack to tattoo the name on her anyway.

I remember that article. She probably wrote another article later talking about how everyone regrets tattoos and crying about her laser removal.

To the OP - same as my thoughts for a woman - if you have to ask, you're not ready.

summer time ... when you find out if the neck tattoo folks you've been seeing all winter are truly Defenders of the Faith. nothing makes you look like a wiener more than wearing a tank top with full neck tatts and bare ass arms and chest :p

get your body tattoo first, you will have more appreciation for the neck experience and respect for and from the tradition and subculture of tattoo. and I second @Hogrider '"if you have to ask, you are not ready"

my $0.02, do what you want

Full exposure is a no go for me. I only have tattoos that I can cover with ordinary business clothes.

Spend the money for really great tattoos in such a highly visible spot. Russ Abbott has done some stunning neck stuff.

I don't think they look good so I won't get them. I feel the same about turtleneck shirts. Of course this means nothing. Other people think they look good and they get them.

So I guess the real question to the OP is... what do YOU think about neck tattoos?

I work in very conservative environment. My ink is very personal. I dress in clothes that easily conceal my ink. Neck/hands are not an option. Neither is a full sleeve.

If you are in a position to do so without negative consequences....go for it.

    • @bongsau glad to hear you're hanging in there! if  you're willing to share, I'd love to see pics of that paint job. Sounds super interesting! i went thru a broken engagement back in the late 2000s. We had just bought a condo together and she left me with a single income right when the housing bubble was bursting. Perfect timing. I also had some dark times, but good friends and family helped shine some light on shit and brighten things up. I eventually fell in love again with my current wife of nearly 10yrs. We ended up foreclosing on the condo, like many Americans, coz the mortgage wasn't worth it and my new lady wasn't digging the spot that didn't feel like her own. That said, we got to live there for at least a few months without paying the rent! hahahhahaha... it was kind nice to somewhat feel what actually OWNING a home would be like, not having to pay the bank. Anyways... i guess i'm just pointing out that cons, pros, ups, and downs come with the ticket to ride. That time taught me many lessons about myself and life, in general. Still learning with far to go! Sending the strongest good juju your way, my man! 🙌💨💞
    • Maybe you have a mutant power!! Wolverine butt. Either that or you're working for Jondix and Chad Koeplinger, trying to get me to extend my back piece.
