Full Back Piece Experience Thread

Recommended Posts

So here is the remainder. Kongo Yasha Myo-o in his full glory from Dana Helmuth.

This was pretty much the home stretch at this point. Once all the shading was done, the color was only about 1/3 of the remaining time I spent with Dana.

I love Dana's snakes. Once mine got colored in, I couldn't stop staring at it, I still can't. Also everyone loves the blue, and so do I. It's bold, and it'll be awesome for a long time.

I spent a lot of time at Read Street Tattoo in Baltimore and it was a great shop. The final session was in Dana's tattoo lair at his home in Maryland and it's a true honor to be a member of his back piece club.

And the final obligatory baby picture, because I want to be as cool as @hogg.

@Cork, so badass! Do you remember how many sessions and how long it took? Thanks for posting it all in one spot so we can appreciate the progression.

All said and done between May 2013 and November 2014. 18 months, roughly 1 appointment per month.

@Cork It's awesome to see the progression of your back in a collection like that. Going through these forums I forget what I've seen sometimes, and having your comments to accompany it is really interesting.

@cltattooing that is a great start to your back as well. Who is doing it out of interest? Apology if you've already mentioned that some where else.

Oh holy mother of... :-O

@cltattooing, that is...I just can't justly put it into words how good that is. And it's only the lines too! Wow! Congratulations! And at least for me, I whole heartedly agree with @BrianH. Line work sucks so good on you for pushing forward with that quantity.

@clttattooing truly amazing! Absolutely stunning!!! I love it.

@BrianH oh man, I am blown away every time i see a pic of this. And "halfway done" is a heck of a lot better than "just started"!!!!! I can't wait to see this colored in.

Sorry for not responding to everyone earlier, I posted that right before sitting down for dinner but oh man, thank you for the overwhelming positive response!

@Cork so insanely cool to see all of that as a process!! Must have been neat to put those photos together and take a trip down memory lane with all of it. I also have taken pain killers for getting the linework done, and you are absolutely right about it not doing a whole lot as far as actually dulling the pain. You definitely still feel everything and it is pretty intense, it just isn't quite so brutal and immediate.

@pidjones thank you! I figured instagram wouldn't be the right place for this one, the format is so irregular for photo sharing.

@Pugilist thanks, Anna! Also very impressed with that as well, can't fathom actually trying to draw that.

@MrToby Thank you! The artist is Kahlil Rintye at Tattoo City in SF.

@Diehardonvhs @Lance @sophistre @mmikaoj @Rob I @hogg @suburbanxcore

Thank you guys very much! Means a lot!

@BrianH WOW WOW WOW SO SICK! Damn!!

    • Hi I have a question about numbing creams last time I have had a first session on my whole belly I just couldn't withstand the pain I did not manage the whole session so I did a little bit of research how to help myself and found some info about the creams. The concern is that they last only about a hour which is not what I want for a whole session and those based on water are not recommended to reapply during long sessions. I still have about a full session to get mine finish so I really need an advice. Can you apply first layer in middle of the session? I'm thinking to start without anything and after couple of hours of tattooing when the pain is unbearable to apply a cream on areas that has been just tattooed and still needs to be finished. Can someone recommend tried good creams. Many thanks.
    • It really is shocking, concerning and, sadly, I feel like I don't I have much to add. 😞
    • I have no idea. I feel like maybe people who never would have gotten tattoos are getting them now because they are more mainstream, but then they appear to suddenly realize it is permanent? I don't know, but it feels like 90% of newbies come here to talk about their anxiety over a new tattoo. Sigh.
