Advice/experience please...

Hi there,

I wondered if anyone has had an infected tattoo and it’s ended up still looking good  after healing? I got a beautiful foot tattoo just over a week ago and with all the best will in the world, it’s got mildly infected. No pus, no streaks. But red and raised and quite sore after a week. Think I caught it early. The doctors put me on antibiotics which is a relief but I’m worried for my beautiful piece of artwork. The once beautiful leaf detail is covered in scabs and I can’t the detail anymore. I know patience is key and time will tell.... but just wondered if anyone also had personal experience of this to share?
I’ve attached pics of it just done and also today so you can see.
Thank you, from a manic little sausage in the UK xx

I think it's too early to tell:
I'd keep it as clean as possible, moisturize lightly several times a day (try to keep it from fully drying out), and give it another 4-6 weeks.

Worst case if you had some color fall out, your artist will probably be able to touch it back up once it's 100% healed.

I had one that got REALLY infected on my tricep, and when it finally healed all it needed was a quick touch up to pack some more color. Like others have said, all you can do is maintain your aftercare and wait for it to heal fully.

Little update on this.... turns out, I think the tattoo was damaged with the infection ☹️
Most of the scabs are now away and on the leaf nearest my heel and the word ‘All’ (where the main site of infection was) there is a sort of damaged red scabless centre. It looks pretty damaged and you can see the ink hasn’t taken well. The middle leaf doesn’t look too clever either. It still has a small scab that’s stuck fast. The third leaf looks fine. Although still very milky. Pics attached.
Hey ho. A touch up it is. But I can tell the skin is quite damaged so maybe I’ll leave it for a while. Soooo cross with myself! 😡

When my tattoo was infected, every bit of the color fell out. It was months before it could be touched up. We waited a few weeks and tried, and the needle just went straight through the flesh. It was bizarre. Just give it a few months and with a touchup, it will be good as new.

Were you wearing shoes while it healed? I had my feet tattooed (much more heavily than yours) in the winter, but I still rocked flip flops until they healed. Might try that, even if your feet get cold. Or maybe wait until summer to get it touched up.

Yeah.... I been wearing shoes tbh but taking them off whenever possible. I even work with my feet out (teaching pilates) so I don’t wear shoes that often but you’re probably right that it’s partially to blame. Thanks for the advice re touching up timelines and warmer weather.

    • should be facing into the center of the body, like you have it, right?
    • Im usually sure about my ideas, but im stuck with that one, 98% of me thinks its cool, but this 2%... just torturing me and I dont understand whats wrong.  So I've always liked the rose and dagger motive, but last year I started really thinking about it, and the Idea of scissors cutting through it really appealed to me. I think the shape of it looks cool on my forearm. But I cant convince myself that it makes sence, and  I cant stop thinking about it niether!  A little about myself, I really like fashion, and I do enjoy creating clothes myself, also I work at a fabric store, so I guess thats why this tool appeals more to me personally than a dagger, and I already have a safety pin tatooed on my forearm(which I loooove , and I expect to love the next tattoo as much! Or more!).  But I dont want just scissors on my arm, I think its going to be more fun if its cutting through something. I love roses, but just one rose is not fun for me too.  So I combined the two together.  I hope the sketch I made is not that bad, I may just attach it here
    • New here guys. I was wondering about my tattoo. I thought it was supposed to face away from me, but the artist said it made sense to have it facing this way. I figured he knew more than me since he was an artist. Now I’ve had some people say it should be facing the other way and I’m worried it could get in the way of a traditional sleeve. I don’t think it really could be covered up.
