    the glamorous life

I'd much rather tattoo the crazies, fatties, etc. and be able talk about killing zombies than inking the over tanned uptown julie browns exhibiting their zanax prescription. Case in point; I like to derail some people when they are the first timer questioning me to be serious about how much pain is involved minutes before I start, it don't matter what I reply with as they will soon know so sometimes I just say "I compare it to the first time ya have anal sex, that shid hurts!" and it totally derails them and they generally don't reply or the replies will vary between males and females to something so "off the wall". But one time after I was underway after the "no reply/response" this lady stated "You lied! I'd much rather have anal sex than this!" I had to laugh. As to the variety of "earthy and real people" we get, I once had a lady in the chair getting a bird of paradise on her should, her back to me, and this guy stopped by needing to talk about some deep marital stuff he was going through and how his Wife left him for ANOTHER WOMAN. I told him that I had once pondered as to "who would know better than another woman how and where to please another woman", now the lady in the chair hadn't said a word since we had began and was not part of this discussion but at that point she turned her head towards us and spoke up "That's a crock of szhit, this beotch was eating my pussy last Saturday and she didn't know what the f*%k she was doing" at which point I couldn't help but burst into laughter. I love my job.

  3. Got this outlined on Friday. Only had about an hour and a half of tattoo time available before had to get ready for next appointment or would have started the shading.

    Full Back Piece Thread

I'm getting to know names around here, but awesome back pieces started by the actual members who posted their own work. Asradin, that looks like a great start. This thread makes me want to get started on a back piece immediately. Too bad that's not going to happen within the next 2 years. I do want something full back, and it'll probably be Kanga Yaksha Myo-o. He is the god protecting the North. 3 Faces, 6 arms, you know... the norm, haha. How can there be a full back piece thread that has gone 11 pages without a single mention of Hiroshige?!? Or did I miss that page? Anyhow, these are some of my favorites of his.

    Dumb Hipster Tattoos

I'd be really interested to see what would happen if you could get a few people to agree to getting some chromed-out nonsense tattooed on them by some "names" and see how long it would take for everyone to copy it, and start talking about how 90s chrome is the fucking TRUTH. ..I, however, do not volunteer to receive these tattoos.

    Rocky the Grizzly Bear

And nature once again reminds us why people aren't supposed to try and own wild animals. Have you guys seen the Canadian movie about the dude who get attacked by a bear ? It's a documentary. So he gets attacked, lives, and then makes it his life mission to build a bear proof suit to then go find the same bear again and fight it. It's amazing. If you ever thought Canada wasn't full of hicks and yokels you should watch this. Oh just remembered the name of the movie it's Project Grizzly.

If they put Ellen Paige, Michael Cera, Robert Pattinson, and that mouth breather Kristen Stewart in the 3rd Human Centipede, I'd watch it.

    Dumb Hipster Tattoos

This tattoo was done in September of 2009, and I bet by September of 2010 it was a black panther crawling out of a very dark red rose.

    Un-planned tattoos

I have many unplanned tattoos due to sometimes just hanging out at a shop and/or swinging by to say hello with a few hours to kill and before I know it I'm getting tattooed. Way different from how I thought getting tattooed was supposed to be when I started. I thought you had to plan it out and it had to mean something but soon learned this was societies myth. At some point I just realized/learned the random tattoo is often times the most meaningful and fun. For instance, getting out of class early now on Saturday so going down to the SF tattoo convention to say hi to some friends and introduce myself to some LSTers that I haven't met...no appointments like I wanted to do but didn't think I was going to make it due to school so just an idea of people I'd like to get tattooed by and if they have the time I'm going to let them have at it...........try to collect a bunch of small tattoos....

  18. It is funny that Smith Street has been mentioned in both responses to this thread. I think they set out to be the premier street shop in the world, and I would say they have accomplished it.

  19. The problem is not CEO salaries. The problem is how much influence these large corporations have over our government. The reason so much deregulation (in banking) has taken place since 1980 is rich assholes paying the elected officials to look after their interests and not those of the entire country. A few people making enormous amounts of money does not matter. It only matters when they are paying government officials to rewrite the Constitution so they can make those enormous amounts of money. The George Carlin quote that Dari added at the beginning of this thread is dead on. Also some of you may have noticed that my location is Canada, but I am an American. I am married to a Canadian, and when we started weighing the pros and cons of raising a family in the US or Canada it did not take long to make a decision. I consider myself very lucky to have been given a choice. I am not saying that the Canadian government is perfect, but Canada was the right choice for my family. And even though I live in Canada I follow US politics and events much more closely than Canadian ones. The final thing I will say is I don't think we should expect perfection from any government, but we should expect a hell of a lot more than what the US government is doing right now.

  20. 175 billion dollar tax-payer bailout in 2008. 32.6 billion paid out in bonuses to bank employees in 2008. Not one of the demands on that list is more ridiculous than that.

  25. So a few months ago I started noticing this weird hipster trend of posting photos of oneself with a nosebleed. It was all over the social networking sites. Just random bleeding hipsters. I thought it might be a cocaine reference, but it turned out that hipsters are just fucking stupid.

  26. Bridesmaids was filmed alot in my neighborhood. Movie reminded me of "the hangover" for women. Buuuutttt just as funny for guys. I ask because people here don't know corn about poop. I once worked with this fool. Actually ive worked with a handful but this one I never really cared for. This woman came tO the shop on my day off. Turns out she had a bob Roberts back piece. The fool had no idea who he was. Uggghhh there was a show that night and it just so happened I ran into her there. We strike up a conversation and we realize I worked at the shop with the dork who didn't know who bob Roberts was. She then showed me an amazing back piece AAAAAND her boobs. Moral of the story.....know your history kids. Knowledge gets you boobs.

  27. Guys ,first of all you can't compare tattooing to any other profession, particulary anything related to financial gain .These people live tattoos all day every day ,not just doing them but everything to do with them -even the shit stuff they love ,i'm sure .A better comparison is to a professional athlete or the like who lives totally immersed in their thing with monk-like devotion and love .Best put I think by Horiyoshi III "i will live and die devoted to this " Deb -true love for something is always apparent and will attract likewise long after the new jack "superstars" have been replaced by the next batch.Laugh with your man cause most times its better to be invisible.
