  7. @Ursula covered it well. Part of going to a good tattooer and shop is giving the tattooer "your" idea and having them tweak it to what will work. It is part of what you pay for. I'll paraphrase one of the best things I've heard said, "don't try to stuff ten pounds of something into what will only hold a few pounds". With that being said no one except a tattooer can draw a tattoo that will work except the one drawing and tattooing it. No internet site/app will ever replace or help a customer like a good tattooer and shop! When we were thinking about starting this site we looked around a bunch at what was out there and nothing accurately captured what a real tattoo experience is by a good tattooer and/or shop which is one of the many reasons we started this site. All the other "tattoo sites" were just leading people in the desert providing mirages which then made customers think the wrong things. Many of the best tattooers are within arms reach to get tattooed by in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable price but you gotta want it.

well fuck me! thats cool as shit, I would probably just sit and listen. I was very close to getting something from hooper early this year in Austin. I think I dont deserve my good fortune sometimes I mean within the year by SOG I will have been tatttoed by richard stell, Valerie Vargas, David Bruehl(who is getting me in before he moves to Red letter 1 in Tampa) and Maybe Marcus Kuhn( he offered to do something in late may but I am traveling for brothers wedding. With the pregnancy issues I wont travel more than a day till SOG so unless I do a Dallas trip my tattoo next week will last me till late october. Man one year ago I joined here trying to get some bad covers covered now I am getting some work from some of the best IMO and thankful

You got that right, saved is larger than FST and a bit more relaxed. They play a wide array of music and it was easy for us to talk, even with my heavy american accent. I really enjoyed my time over the 3 days. Stewart was great and shared stories with me and answered my MANY questions on tattooing. Thomas Hooper was great and he and Stewart would go back and fourth about things in their individual histories. I'd be rude not to mentions Chris O'donnell and Stephanie Tamez. Great people and they ALL did great work. It was a stellar F@-KING WEEK!!!!

It's not as uncommon as you'd think- going back through the years there were a few tattooers with 'Professional Names'- guys like Spider Webb, Rusty Needles, Mr. Tramp. Specially the bikers, but not limited to. Obviously it wasn't the rule but the exception.

    Hello all

and also my closet Friend @Dzelram and I grew up together in Masspequa on Long Island. He is also the reason that I am into tattoos. We have gone many times to get work done when we were younger. We are reliving the past and getting tattooed agin together. We went to Smith Street together today, unfortunately we were turned away. I'm going back to NY in June and I will have an appointment this time!!!! No more leaving to chance...... Welcome to LST and thank you for posting, tomorrow is a big day!!!!

What can I say.... I'm a stud!!!! But seriously, @Stewart Robson was great in the plan for the 3 days. He didn't go over the same area and he moved around my body. So it was like getting different tattoos done at once in different places......

  19. that's usually how it goes with any of those flash finder things. best thing is always just to go to a shop. if you really can't decide if it's a good idea to get a tattoo or not, then it's probably not.

    Great shop experience

Yesterday my friend started his epic-ly massive Phoenix (armpit to half-thigh) over at Invisible NYC by GR. I decided to stop by after work since I close by and he could give me a ride home after. I do have to say that, this is one nice shop! Everyone there was very friendly and my friends tattoo is coming out amazing so far. While I was there watching I ended up talking to Eric Machalovic www.myspace.com/ericmichalovic outside. After talking about tattoos for a little bit I signed up to get one by him. (I getting a tradition skull). I do have to say I loved this shop enough that I will try to get work by everyone there. Just thought I'd share my experience! Anyone else have any good experiences?

    yelp & tattoo shops

The yelp for Ny Adorned is comical. One review was complaining about someone suggesting they use a rose for a cover up and the customer was insulted by this and wrote some cry baby review shitting on the shop and shop employees. What a joke. Opinions really are like assholes.

  33. that's super nice. i keep telling my fiancee, who lives in Limerick, that she needs to get tattooed by him, since he seems to be at Ross Nagle's shop every other month. i went to visit her in January... Oliver showed up the day i was leaving. also, no photo yet, but i got a Sailor Jerry heart on my ankle bone Thursday. solid black instead of red, and the banners reading PURE LOVE instead of MOM and DAD (if i recall)... it was a bit swollen today.

Right? Draw poorly, shade competently and whammo -- dwarf. I don't remember that being part of the input for that tattoo. No one told these kids pinups are long and lean? I freely admit to watching Inkmasters and my wife wanted to watch this one but after that last episode even she agreed it was unwatchable -- even ironically. I can't believe they get their egos pumped up by being called ten of the best tattoo artists and they don't even know the basics. Do your homework, kids. Leave tv to the washed up celebrities and housewives.

  40. Aw shit, the other pic I posted didn't show up - must be link-proof. Anyway, it was an Oompa-Loompa from Willy Wonka, provided for comparison purposes. The photo that did show up is a tattoo from Best Ink ep. 2 that Frisch's Big Boy et al thought was... *shudder* good.

    Artist Uniforms

Uniforms? Hell no. At our shop we all know what we're there to do and are actually trusted to dress ourselves. We're professionals. Our shop stresses customer service too...in cleanliness, demeanor and quality. Hell I've walked customers to their cars when they're scared at night...but no, never a uniform. Frankly, I think uniforms set up an us-and-them vibe and a shop is the last place that needs to be . I'm as likely to wear a Blitz tshirt as a Penguin button down but either way, clean and in good repair and buttoned so it doesn't drag across my tray when reaching for things. Also, our front person acknowledges every client when they walk in, then let's them to it. They know who to talk to. The Rollo remark is dead on. People cry about how no one takes us seriously but show up stinking in a dumpsterdweller costume. That's not usually "that guy's" only problem. Chances are if you show up to work at our shop looking like your clothes came from a rag bag, we're not going to have a sit-down about your clothes but respect and your approach to work.

    Great shop experience

It wasn't much but I had a nice experience with Joe Capobianco at Hope Gallery in CT. I was getting tattooed by one of his co workers and it was getting late and Joe was watching a little. He was finished for the day but stuck around and brought me a drink and just kept asking if there was anything I needed or anything he could get me. Just having the great Joe C. hanging around and complimenting the tattoo and bringing me juice, etc. was real cool. I admit I was a little uncomfortable and starstruck but he was so humble and such a cool guy. Speaking of starstruck I was also getting tattooed by Shane O'Neill while he was doing a guest spot in Mass. and Bob Tyrell was there, also, ending his guest spot. Bob wasn't tattoing but sat and watched Shane (I guess they're good friends) and those two were talking about tattoing, various shops, Kid Rock possibly buying into Bob's place, etc. Having Bob compliment my tattoo and shake my hand and just have a normal, friendly converstion was pretty cool to me. It may not mean much to some people here but for me it was a special experience.
