Yeah man. I think most of us know that it isn't very polite to discuss how much someone charged you, etc etc. People who make it about the money don't care about the art. Luckily, those of us who actually get solid tattoos by solid tattooers can say so. I mean, bragging itself is poor manners, but it sure is nice knowing in your head. My mom told me a story once about how she was checking out at the grocery store. The person in front of her was covered in shitty tattoos. She called me later, relayed the story and said, "The only thing I could think was my son has so much nicer looking tattoos." :)

It doesn't bother me a bit. 1 It just makes my tattoos look that much better. 2 If you have to justify a tattoo by telling how little you paid then it's probably a shitty tattoo. 3"You'll appreciate the quality long after you've forgotten what you paid."

I say get things as you get them, and don't worry about the space or size. I think some of the coolest tattoos I have ever seen are the ones that are worked into odd spaces.

Not photos per se but images from a book from 1671 (thats pretty old. My wife is an early modern literature nerd and found these photos on a blog (resobscura.blogspot.co.uk). THey come from an article on Brazilians by some Dutch dude: (Following text and photos nicked from said blog so not mine). "Europeans were also fascinated and fearful of the "monstrous" forms of indigenous Brazilians themselves. Although most accounts remarked upon the good health, longevity and physique of Tupí Indians and other indigenous societies in Brazil (probably a reflection more of the poor health and diet of the European mariners than anything else), others focused on their tendency toward body-modification. The most entertaining and strange European take on piercing and tattooing I have been able to find is John Bulwer's fantastically titled Anthropometamorphosis: Man Transform’d, or the Artificial Changeling. Historically presented, in the mad and cruel Gallantry, foolish Bravery, ridiculous Beauty, filthy Fineness, and loathesome Loveliness of most Nations, fashioning & altering their Bodies from the Mould intended by Nature. With a Vindication of the Regular Beauty and Honesty of Nature, and an Appendix of the Pedigree of the English Gallant. (London: J. Hardesty, 1650). (I wrote about this a bit in an earlier post). Below he describes how "the Brasileans... are pricked within the flesh" with paint." "Bulwer's title page takes this a step further, showing an Amerindian figure sporting some truly remarkable tattoos! The European woman with facial tattoos to the figure's left highlights Bulwer's concern that this "barbarous" custom would become fashionable with his own countrymen (he was right, but it would take another three hundred years or so to really catch on, and the whole "face on a butt" tattoo fad seems to still lie in the future)." Interesting eh?

All that shooting from the mouth trying to dazzle us with ''tight rounds'' and shit(I have no idea of the tattoo process ) but many years standing on the door taught me the dude who rants about how bad hes '' going to fuck you up !'' never actually does .

I think a lot of bad tattoo stories start with "I went to a friends house to watch a UFC fight." I have a couple of those stories myself.

I feel you dude. I was just talking to someone the other day about a recent shitty tattoo they got and they said the guy is "pretty good for around here". I told them there are actually tattooists around here that are plain old GOOD, not just for here, for anywhere. Then they were the usual complaints of money and likely having to schedule something at least 2 weeks ahead. I just said that they'll get the tattoo they deserve. People want to be stupid, shitty fuckheads, then they deserve stupid shitty tattoos.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again - you can't go wrong with a "Wu-Tang Buffalo with laser beam eyes". Here's one that was prepared earlier (I have no idea who did this originally, I came across it awhile ago in all its awesomeness)

I want to make it real clear that the six month wait WAS NOT at Chicago Tattoo! The artist in question had been working there when he did my piece, but then moved-on and became all popular and hip and so-forth. Anyhow, for a typical waiting time at Chicago Tattoo, I e-mailed Nick Colella there this morning, and have appointments for my Lady and myself this Wednesday evening. Guess I can wait a day!

Yep, I think that sounds like the right approach. Some of the coolest trad style tattoos I've seen have been fillers / squeezed into unlikely places anyway...

I'm staying in Soho for three days later in the summer... Going to maybe try and get a walk-in in Frith St.

I received mine last week and I really like it. I am sure you will be happy with it.

thanks, my first post disappeared so it must have been a bug with my computer @CultExciter Mark and Matt run a great place for sure, record stores across the country are closing while they just doubled in size. Hot Stuff is actually moving right across the street from them.

the story lost me pretty quickly, but for sure once disappointment in not getting the tattoo finished at the time was mentioned. i'm pretty sure a car demolishing the front wall of the shop is going to take precedence over just about anything, and pretty much everyone would understand that.

Making a trip to Chicago next weekend and having Mario tattoo my stomach. Im super excited but not looking forward to the pain.

Thanks everyone. It's funny because Stewart pointed out to me that I've spent more time travelling to and fro sessions for my backpiece than I actually spent getting it tattooed. Totally worth it though and I can't stop smiling. Next up is my other foot being done by Frank Carter to match the other one he did :)

Got back a few hours ago after the final session on my back piece with Stewart. He was kind enough to put it up on instagram: Instagram I'm stoked. By far my favourite tattoo and incredible that it was done in 15 hours. I now have the fun of healing two leg tattoos and my back at the same time. I'm a very happy man :D

Wow, that's a pretty good deal. Got a Brekkle's Brown (Anchor), 2 Liberty Ales and 2 Anchor Steam in the fridge. Unfortunately I'm also working Saturday and Sunday morning so it's unlikely I'll drink 'em (all).

This is our shops healing instructions. There are many different theories on aftercare for tattoos. We always recommend you follow the instructions of the artist that did your tattoo. They are, after all, the ones responsible for touch ups and many artists will not guarantee their work if you don't follow their instructions. These are the instructions we here at Cherry Blossom give to our clients: Leave bandage on for couple hours Wash your tattoo with cool soap and water. Make sure you get all the blood and ointment off. Let the tattoo air dry for 15-20 minutes. Apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor. Rub it until it goes completely away. There should be no shine. You will know to apply more when the tattoo feels tight. If it doesn’t feel tight do not apply more Aquaphor. Do Not pick or scratch your new tattoo. Do Not soak your tattoo in water. No swimming, hot tubs or baths. Showers are fine, just don’t soak it. Keep the tattoo out of the sun until the return of Jesus.
