This is none of our business... Unless you donated something to the museum, then maybe yeah... But from what I deduce from the press, by using two different translators, and one good fluent friend... They being, the "grant money lender(s)" have done the usual last resort, and taken possession of any and all property in an effort to freeze the assets until money or other collateral has been levied, in order to make up for someone taking a large sum of grant money, and not doing what they said they were... If they were supposed to be doing unemployment outreach (where a contract is usually signed), and instead blew the funds on something else, they are up a shit creek without a paddle. It doesn't matter who was wrong or right, the goverment is straight pissed, they never give money away, and when it comes back to bite them in the ass, you better be sure they are gonna come after whatever the hell else they can. God I hope they release a statement that's not social media fluff... this could be bad... I wish I could say more, but... Seriously none of our business to know what exactly is going on, just be supportive... that's all.

The obvious Parkinson's symptoms made me sad. I work with a lot of folks with Parkinson's and it's a super tough disease. I'm sorry that ANYONE has to go through that. :(

I bet you had an awesome time over there next to Zach too haha- did you see his photo of the inkmaster asshats - - - Updated - - - 2 this weekend- Went to Richmond Saturday and had a great time meeting folks and hanging out with good friends, and finally got to meet @CultExciter who is indeed a true gent with an amazing sleeve and now a good start on another! First up is side-o-neck by Matt Bivetto, my go to guy and one of the finest and most humble people (and artist) you could meet. So after getting back to Roanoke at about 2AM I headed up to Keepsake in Arlington the next day to see Tomas Garcia, another one of my favorite people and a visionary artist- I was going to do the other side of my neck but it was too swollen soooo Tomas crafted me an amazing portrait on my calf: I am clearly into super tough guy imagery :-D

This post is most emphatically NOT about a legendary tattooist, but mayhap a legend of tattoing? So, many moons ago, when I was yet a youngster, we went to Walter's Barber Shop, out near Mannheim and Ogden. This was a real-live, old-time guys barber shop. You know, True Magazine, Esquire, pinups on the wall, racing sheets available, the whole drill. Walter was probably in his mid-sixties at the time. One day, I must have been maybe 12, I was in getting a haircut, and for the first time, it registered that he had tattoos on each arm! Actually, a sailing ship on one forearm, and a nekkid pin-up girl on the other. Both looked to have been done, probably during the maiden voyage of the Ark. Nice, even greenish ink, I"m sure you've all seen the stuff. Anyhow, I asked him about them, and he tells me "oh sure, I used to do tattoos right in the backroom here!" Well, I had to see it, and he took me back to his storeroom, and sure enough, he had all kinds of tattooing gear there. Machines, hand-needles, flash, all kinds of stuff that I didn't recognize but knew I wanted! "No, it isn't for sale, I guess I just like to have it in case I ever decide to use it again." That, and he didn't want my pops to come looking for him with a baseball bat, I'm sure. So as we talked, it turned out that he had tattooed in that area for maybe 15-20 years, pretty steadily, and had made a nice bit of extra change at it. Back then, in Illinois, you could get a tattoo as a minor if you had your parents permission. You can guess the rest. He did a full chest-piece of a sailing ship on a young lad who presented a note from his dear old Mither saying he had her blessings, and wouldn't you know the little rascal was only 14 and had forged it!!! End of tatttoing in LaGrange. Walter escaped any serious repurcussions, but had to hang-up his tattooing shingle after that. Still had the sign there, too! Don't know what his last name was, I'm going to do a little digging, see if I can track him through his Barber's License. Who knows what stories the man could have told, or what the equipment was?!

I finally watched yesterday's episode. By far my favorite. It was so god damn awesome. My gf had to tell me to be quiet several times because I kept talking about how awesome it was and how an 80 year old man is cooler than I can ever hope to be. Phenomenal job by the crew of the show. So excited that there will be 4 more episodes. I honestly feel giddy after watching it. I also think its awesome he will still tattoo is name for $30. - - - Updated - - - Loved this part

It's not so much name-dropping or that we want to be "part of it" We all get a lot of time-wasters who just want to talk about tattoo ideas, you know, just shoot the shit a little via email. When someone emails me and lets me know that they have travelled or put in whatever effort and are serious about getting tattooed, if I can tell that they have selected me based on my previous work and understand how much a tattoo of that size will cost - then they are way more likely to get a timely response. Remember that if whoever you are emailing travels a lot they may not have enough time or internet connection long enough to give you a considered response. Before we can email you a time/price/day/location for your tattoo, we need to figure out all that stuff first. Sometimes even have a couple of extra options of dates/times/tattoo subjects. Personally I don't like being given "total freedom". Some days that may mean a portrait of Austin Osman Spare, other days it may mean a Baku backpiece or dagger and rose. I guess if your chosen tattooer is known for a specific set of subjects, it's a no-brainer, but it's something to consider. A couple of alternatives won't hurt either. Something that comes to mind whenever I see/hear discussions like this, I wish I could remind collectors/customers/whatever that just because you see a tattooer post to instagram or whatever else on the internet, that doesn't mean they are also checking and responding to emails.

Well, the Coasts have both been written up, so I guess I have to throw in my vote for Chicago. Cliff Raven. I don't usually like linking to Wiki, but this is a fairly concise and accurate summation of his career. Cliff Raven - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia While it is accurate, it doesn't really convey just how much of an influence the man had. When I first started hanging around his shop at WAY too young an age, Buddy McFall was still working there, and it was a pretty rough and tumble place. Phil Sparrow was there at times, as was Tats Thomas. Cliff was called "The Father of Modern Tattooing in America" by those in the know in this area. He may have been, or he may simply have been one of the earliest and most influential advocates of Japanese-style tattooing. Continuing his style, and also his renown, were some of his apprentices, especially Dale Grande, who still owns Chicago Tattoo, and Bob Benedetti. That line continues with the man I consider to be one of the finest traditional tattooists in the world, Nick Colella, (Tattooing by Nick Colella) and with another outstanding artist, deeply immersed in the Japanese tradition, Miles Maniaci. ({ Miles Maniaci }) BTW, that's my arm in the "Progress" section. It seems that these tattooists get short-shrift in books and print in general, and that's a shame...Chicago Tattooing is literally a shrine to the art. There is original flash on the walls by Cliff, Dale, and Nick, along with such greats as Sailor Jerry, Don Ed Hardy, Tats Thomas, and many others. Cliff was named "Tattoo Artist of the Year" at the very first International Tattoo Convention in 1976, and shortll after bought out Lyle Tuttle's shop in Hollywierd. While there, he tattooed many celebs, including Ringo Starr. I got tattooed by Nick Colella a few weeks ago, and he told me that he is hoping to continue the thread on tattooing history in Chicago he had started here as soon as he got a minute free from ink-slinging. The man is busy, but you can still get a walk-in with him without too much difficulty. So give Chicago it's due, some of the heaviest names of tattooing in the modern age came out of here! Add another to your list, Bunny...you can book a spot with Nick, chat with Dale while you're there, and then maybe hit Miles the same day-he works out of Deluxe Tattoo, not too far from Chicago Tattooing Company. I am fortunate to have work by by Dale, by Miles, and by Nick, and have more planned with Nick. .02

@Cu-Bu hold onto your horses (and T.V.) homes , I feel something may have been lost in translation here . Pretty sure thats not Horiyoshi III of Yokohama rather a collector called Yoshi who has been tattooed by the main man and who also wears a tigers head by Bob Roberts .

I was really surprised how in shape he really is! He has to be at least 55-56 because the shop opened it's door in 1976! He told me that the BBC had just been there doing a TV taping because they had done some research and his shop had been open the longest out of all the remaining shops (either in Brooklyn or NYC)..... so he told them about Tony P. and he had Tony come in to talk with them.....and Mike wound up tattooing Tony during the taping for the show!

Here are two living legends that i know have already been mentioned but I got to hang with them both this past weekend and had such and awesome time! Mr. Tony Polito....who showed up to surprise me....and in the background you can see Mr. Mike Perfetto tattooing! Sorry....I look like crap....mostly because I had already been tattooed earlier in the day by Steve Delgatto...ha ha ha!

Yeah Deb.....I am doing what I can....and you know that for a fact......ha ha ha! I thought I blew it when I didn't get Tony Polito last year BUT I was given a very rare chance to add a tattoo by him and I jumped all over it! I should have gotten Steve Delgatto.....but I dropped the ball......it's in the works though! I need to make a trip down the VA Beach area to add a little something from Scott Sterling as well! And a trip up to Philly in the next few weeks to get something if I can from Jerry "Reds" I am gonna be a busy Bunny! Deb.....you really need to plan a trip to the East Coast sometime soon.....you know your name is on my list!!! ;)

In our household... we like our Battle Royals with cheese and no whine, in one shot... Preferably in one sitting. I'll post a couple pics... It was his kids first tattoo, one sitting, like 8 hours...

Another who truely fits the tag legend is the godfather of Italian tattooing ,Gian M Fercioni .He pioneered the stylish Italian look of reduced palette and plenty of skin within beautiful traditional design, compounded by his colourful personal style .He's a real tattooers go to guy and is revered in Europe ,personally I would love to see more of his work.

Having lived in the West Country, UK for most of my life it would have to be Bristols Les Skuse. I would have loved to have been tattooed by Les, he died in 1973 a couple of years after I got tattooed for the first time. Here is some of Les Skuses work.

Lance Mc Clain is still goin strong in Hawaii, my mate just got tattooed off him. Danny Romo is still doin 3 days at least at Shamrock in Hollywood for the real old East LA style. Phil Bond is probably still tattooing in Torquay England with 2 of his sons, he always did great tattoos. And Dennis Cockell has a new shop in Soho in London and is there all week, Dennis painted some of the nicest tattoo flash ever, most of it is still in the shop in Walkers Court that Darryl Gates has now. There are a lot of real good tattooers with 30 years in still tattooing today, sitting in shops waiting for ya to walk in and get something put on you.

Ronnie Dell'Aquila is another legend who still tattoos in Allentown.
