My first truly spur of the moment tattoo, a late birthday gift from my brother and sister

This today. Tattooed by Jimmie Skuse, Les Skuses' grandson. Amazing shop. So much history there. Had a great time chewing the fat with Jimmie. He showed me a load of flash thats been submitted for a book he's working on. - - - Updated - - - That is truly beautiful.

Ok I just got home... it is beautiful. Nothing like I imagined it would be. I told him lady head, 3/4 view, and with a moon and stars... and it became my most beautiful tattoo yet

I left my fulltime career position to take on my apprenticeship full time lol..scared shitless.

i guess on a side note building on the last comment by tattooedgirl, in the past, dating the un-tattooed was a problem. a 2 year relationship of mine ended over me wanting a very large ribcage tattoo.... he did not want this to happen.. i left.lol. sounds fickle but it was my body - and i could see clearly that it was going to be an issue... I warned my husband when we started dating that if he didnt like tattoos he probbabbblyyy would be unimpressed with seeing me in the nude...lol... (mine are usually fairly covered but there are A LOT of them) . Luckily- he loves tattoos.. i think it throws a lot of men off when a woman does not apppearrrr to have tattoos... Im a kind of barbie-ish blonde girl with a love of pink and high high heals LOL... i get flack in the shop by men coming in thinking i dont work there...and or my lack of looking overly alternative somehow discredits me on some level?? kind of sad.. anyway where i'm going with that is that at some point, i think if you are heavily tattooed, or in the process, and your partner is not, and is never going down that road - it can cause HUGE problems... Also, if you are a woman an heavily tattooed, and the man does not realize it, that can be a shocker and an issue.lol. AND THEN my final statement: The kinds of partners that are often attracted to heavily tattooed people simply for that "look" are often headcases.... not our fault!!! but its a screening procress!!!! It sounds like many of us here are really lucky to have found good matches, but eeeeeesh I'm sure you've all seen it happen.!

I was in MN over the weekend visiting some family and decided to go talk to Josh Arment at the Aloha Monkey about doing a full sleeve 9 tail fox japanese tattoo. Went in to get an estimate only, and ended up leaving with with 4 booked appointments :cool: I cant wait! Lol

Sessions have been around the 5 hour mark total tattoo time, the last session was more like 7 hours, so just over 20 hours so far, can't really complain ;) - - - Updated - - - Thank you mate, the next session will focus on the skull, haven't really touched it since the first session. Still deciding on colours and stuff then its just putting the colour in the dragon act, booked in for 3 more sessions but might only take 2 - - - Updated - - - Thanks man, yeah I still think his are the best going. - - - Updated - - - Hahaha thanks mate, I try :p

Today was the 3rd annual daddy/daughter tattoo day It was as awesome as we hoped. The Homeward Bound ship is on her and Woodchuck Norris is on me. Both done by Paul Pearson.

It's funny to see how different some people look to how I imagined them (or, conversely, how similar). Anywho, here's me being all Cheesecake recently in celebration of losing 10kg/getting more tattooed.

What about roses with a black outline made by people who have been tattooing for over 50 years? I got this one from Tony D'Annessa around Easter time this year, it's from one of his old roll-up flash sheets.

So I am getting married in July of this year to the most amazing woman. We are two peas in a pod. We both love tattoos and although I have far more, it is something we enjoy together. This August we are planning to take our honeymoon on a road trip through a large swath of the USA. (We are Canadians living in Toronto) We will travel to Nashville, then to Savannah, GA. After that we go to Orlando, New Orleans, San Antonio, Sante Fe, back through Colorado, Kansas, St. Louis, Chicago, then back to Toronto. I was thinking it would be fun to pick up a tattoo or two along the way. Nothing large, given that we will be in a car much of the time and a lot of healing and driving might not be a great idea. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about getting tattoos in some of these places? I know where'd I'd go in Chicago, but what about New Orleans or New Mexico? A tattoo from Texas would be cool too, and I'd be passing through San Antonio...

I am not going to make it back up to the convention.....but I will be in Brooklyn...Queens...and Long Island this Fri-Sun! I am going to hit as many shops as humanly possible and do my best to pick up at least 4 tattoos while up there! I am flying in at 8am Friday morning and I'll hit the ground running....grabbing a bite on LI and then making my way into Brooklyn and Queens to do a lot of visiting and getting tattooed on friday! Then I'll be back to do it all over again on saturday.....

I really really love the traditional Pharoes horses design and i've come across a few really amazing looking tattoos but done on womens stomachs.. Stomach tattoos are off limits for me completely but i'm wondering if mid back and down might be an option... then leave lots of room at the top of my back IF it ever does become tattooable... i know this is probably totally the wrong place to post this but it's late and i've spent the night creeping all over the internet at horse tattoos... all advice welcome :D

AH! I just saw it, silly me getting a bit confused with who is who in these forums! It's soo beautiful! Congrats! hehe, I must be getting used to the pain, since I have had a lot of big tattoos the last few weeks! And more to come :) Only three weeks left till my next one, and that will be a one-shot twice the size of the one I did this weekend! :eek:

Briana@ San Diego Tattoo Shop - BUJU Tattoo - Briana Sargent has some examples of that type of work. Gene@ Artists | Tattoo Culture does that splatter the ink style in NYC.

Sometimes you just need to go with what feels right to you at the time and, like @David Flores said, don't overthink it. Hope it goes well and that you get something awesome that you're happy with!

The stomach is (imo) the best place to get Pharaoh's Horses, but the back is a close second. I think if you go mid/lower back with it, it will be fine but you'll need to have a plan for the upper back that ties in with it somewhat. It's my favorite tattoo image, eventually it will adorn my stomach (I want to get more tattoos first, and also get in a bit better shape). I add all my favorites to my Pharaoh's Horses tumblr, check it out if you still want to look at more horse tattoos :)

@Kahlan ......find a good shop....go inside and tell them you want to help with the shop in your free time (scrubbing the toilets, taking out the trash....sweeping the floors....etc.) AND tell them you'll do it for free! Don't even mention you want to tattoo....and definitely that you are doing it at home....even on practice skin!!! Put away your machines doll....it really is disrespectful to those who have earned the right to tattoo the proper way. For over 20+ years i had been getting tattooed and never ever thought about picking up a machine to tattoo someone because of the respect I had for my friends who tattooed and just out of respect for the craft. One day i went into a shop while i was on a "tattoo road trip" and a guy told me he'd "trade tattoos" with me! I explained that i did not tattoo and why i was against this! He told me he had learned to tattoo from bob shaw on the pike in california after the vietnam war and had 40 years in the biz and he wanted me to tattoo him. I was really worried what some of my friends would think about me tattooing him but I figured he had earned the right to tell me it was okay to tattoo him....so i did! You may think it is silly of me to have been scared of what my peers would think....but it's because I respect them.....and they respect me! I didn't want to loose their respect because that is a very hard thing to gain back! You can learn the way you are learning.....BUT....to truly have the respect of your peers you should learn the proper way! And to have the respect of your peers in this craft.....is one of the highest honors there is! I'm not busting your balls doll......just trying to give you a different perspective on why you should learn the right way! I personally think you should be offered an apprenticeship....not ask for one! And why do I suggest you should offer your services to a shop for free and work like a dog for them for free??? Because you will never learn the proper way to tattoo until you earn the trust and respect first....then you learn to tattoo! It took me 20+ years to be offered an apprenticeship that was the right fit for me! My answer to the original question in this thread is....yes....there do still need to be apprentices! But not because you need free help or because the shop is slow and you need the 5-10k you can get for teaching someone! It's because the craft needs quality people in it that are willing to earn it and one day pass it on! An apprenticeship is not about learning to tattoo....it is about learning the business as well....at least it used to be! - - - Updated - - - i had the pleasure of sitting down with Zeke at the Philly Convention and the world is definitely a much more wonderful place with him in it!!!
