After admiring her work on a friend (@tacitapproval), I really wanted a piece by Mina Aoki at Fun City, NYC. She did this Lady Head for me yesterday, and I'm very happy with it; it's my first full-color tattoo, my first piece of American traditional work, and my first time at Fun City. I'm sure I'll be back for more. I'll post healed pics in a few weeks.14 points

I can't believe how busy the days following the wedding were. Crazy! When we get some pics back I'll post the best here (in an appropriate thread). I'm only now getting back to any semblance of a normal life. The day after the wedding we also had a crazy flood here in Toronto (of which I got caught in the dead center while trying to get my sister to the airport - all is well, though). I've managed to get away for one night in an historic B&B in Kingston, Ontario. But, and this is why this post is still relevant in this thread, I am working on my honeymoon plans and we are going to Chicago! Even better, Chad Koeplinger will be at the new Great Lakes shop during my visit and I am working out getting a tattoo from him while we are there! Woohoo!!!!4 points -

Ask your artist! What's the big rush anyways? Can't you just get it done when you're back from vacation? That only postpones the tattoo what, 3 weeks?2 points

Who is Dave Gibson?
Gregor reacted to BoMcConaghie for a topic
when I was a kid Dave would come through philly with Mike Wilson all the time. I got to go to Luckys about 10 or 12 years ago in San Diego. Real deal tattooing in a shop full of nothing but hand painted flash. Very cool!1 point -
Totally agreed on cowboy bebop. Samurai Champloo is another one of my favorites (I must have a thing for spike and mugin's voice actor). Speaking of giant robots, neon genesis Evangelion is awesome, with a great reboot (the end of the original series left my brain feeling violated).1 point

Great call on Ninja Scroll. Akira is of course another obvious must-watch... Wicked City is some good messed up fun, the Patlabor movies (third one sucked though), Macross Plus miniseries... Oh, all-time fave anime series, Cowboy Bebop. Cannot be beat.1 point

Caught Pacific Rim tonight. Analogue robot gave me a laugh, and that baseball bat of a ship was rigid as fuck... If only today's oil tankers were that tough! Fun flick though. Nothing complex, just the good simple giant robot fun that our younger selves went nuts for.1 point -

I'm just coming off an awesome weekend in Quebec. I'm a working musician and play in a band called Jon Knight and Soulstack. If you are into a roots/rock/soul/blues/ kinda thang, check us out on the interwebs. We just played at the Montreal Jazz Festival and Mont Tremblant International Blues Festival on Saturday and Sunday respectively to fabulous crowds that energized us and inspired us to play the majority of our asses off ;) It was a blast ! Actually just found this vid of our Montreal show on Youtube. Check it out if ya have any interest. I might be the guy playing the gold guitar ;P1 point

Horitomo Tattoo Cat Prints
Zillah reacted to TrixieFaux for a topic
Our daughter told us we couldn't get the one with the skull on it. "No skulls!", she announced. We got it anyway. Bad parents. If it really freaks her out, we may have to put it aside for a bit until she grows out of this phase. @DJDeepFried was all, "But look honey, it's smiling, it's not scary, it's a cute happy skull!" Still no dice.1 point -
The Tattoo Elite International ones are about 4x5 but on 8x10 paper (or something like that) so no matting necessary! Stick them in a frame and you're good. We just got the second set of prints yesterday.. @Pugilist sent them to a friend in NYC because they don't ship internationally and she came up for a visit and brought them along...so now we're only missing one of the Tattoo Elite International prints. Going to get this apartment painted and then have a Horitomo cat wall of our own.1 point

Why are bad tattoos so popular?
invision reacted to TrixieFaux for a topic
Some of my earlier tattoos are rather simplistic and/or lack creativity. They don't follow the trends named in this thread and I actually still think they look kind of cool--but I also didn't know what was possible back then. I didn't do a ton of research, there was no internet when I got my first one 22 years ago...so I just thought I had to bring in what I wanted and get it. I know better now. I think most people just don't know better. They need LST. Or LSD. Maybe both.1 point -

i'm just hoping that impulsive tattoos will one day equate to impulsive one night stands. the scale is tipped heavy on one side, and y'all know which way.1 point -
I wasn't trying to be a smart-ass btw ... But when I think about Japanese style tattooing and the diversity of approaches - there are important guys dotted all around the globe. And even in the same country or region we see a plethora of approaches. Calle in King Carlos is pretty different in his take on it than another Scandinavian like Henning J... Then you've got guys like Pino Cafaro, an Italian based in Germany, The UK (everything from interpretive type guys to a Horiyoshi III disciple), amazing Australians and so on. The U.S scene is obviously important but I guess I'm saying isn't it a global phenomenon now, moreso than just being concerned with just the U.S or Japan?1 point
