  1. Picked up this cool little fella from Tomas Garcia while he was working a guest spot at Acme Tattoo in Staunton, VA. Tomas is a really cool, humble guy. Do yourself a favor and get tattooed by him if you ever get the opportunity.

  2. Fort Collins was a cool little town. Curtis blazed through our crab-turtle-Ray so I had a ton of time to cruise around.

  5. Got some work in Saturday, but life has been crazy. Wanted to post this up. Detailed in the hair, and sank some color into the top oni. The pic makes him look very bright but the colors have cooled off nicely and now have a deep tone to them. We spoke about detailing him up more next session with either a patterned robe or doing more in the body. Either way I'm on board. EDIT: just to put it in perspective, the horns are colored white that's how red I got I always love the way the tray looks at the end when all the colors are laid out and all is said and done. I thought this concept would make a really neat print. If there is some rule about not showing these details let me know and I will remove it, but I thought it would be a fun share. Hope you guys like it, and I have 2 sessions coming up so maybe we can close in on this project.

    Upcoming Tattoos

Just boarded the plane for Colorado to visit Curtis Burgess at tribal rites. Going for a sea creature mashup that we scheduled almost 2 years ago. After this I am officially done for the year. Sad panda.

  8. I'll be there on the Friday trying not to cry while Mike tattoos my back (most likely the rib area). Hoping the convention atmosphere will help time move faster.

    The ladies thread

I think there is a thread about tattoos and moles, cellulite, scars, skin tags etc. I don't there there is a human out there with a mole or freckle - you do not need to be ashamed. I have had a dysplastic nevis removed long ago, which left a scar. My tattooer tattoos around moles and such. I have also had broken capillaries on my thigh tattooed over - yay!

  15. I've had an idea for a tattoo for a couple of years that I've never seen anybody do before that I think Mike Rubendall would do an excellent job of if he is interested in doing it, so I was thinking of trying to get an appointment with him, but because I'm still working on my back I don't think I have the budget for that tattoo right now. So I really don't know who I'll get tattooed by. Maybe I'll try to get a walk up.

  18. small contribution. Was getting some work done last night, and the shop was commenting on how tattoos are a luxury. I thought it was really funny that this was the point of discussion.

  21. @Shaun1105 Haha yeah, I am a little later than usual with the post this year. Though January was probably a bit early. Brunch last year was fun so maybe we'll do it again this year because it seems easiest to coordinate a meetup before the convention starts. @exume It's totally worth the effort to get here, BUT I would say that Montreal poutine is imitation poutine. You have to go off island to get the good stuff. Here is poutine from Chez Ashton in Quebec City. You can't get anything close to this in Montreal.

This is your first tattoo? Don't sweat it man. Love it for what it is and now you have a story to tell. Things like that put character in to the tattoo.

  24. I would suggest that you find the humor in it and try to not let it upset you. Memory tattoos are hard, because the imagery can be hyper-specific, like which ear was supposed to be floppy. Just realize that your artist has (presumably) never met your dog and just did what you gave the OK on. As tattooers, we 100% rely on the client to be the final say in what gets tattooed. We have people write names, dates and overall be vocal about the most important parts of their tattoo. I understand that it is difficult to identify any potential mistakes from a mirror, but with something so specific, there should have been a, "So, the right ear is floppy, right?... Which ear is floppy?... Which side is the right side on me?" It sounds absurd, and it tends to turn into a funny comedy bit throughout the process, but it's super important to be vocal. I think a lot of people worry about annoying or offending a tattooer, but the most annoying thing is pointing out a mix up AFTER the tattoo is done. Long story short, I wouldn't get laser removal if it's technically solid. I mean, the world might see the portrait with the wrong ear flopped, but they don't know your dog. You will see it from a mirror, where it will be correct. If someone is enough of an ass to call you out on it, say, "This tattoo is for me. When I look in the mirror, I want to see my dog how I remember him/her. If it has to look right to me or you, I choose me." Then say, "Beat it, Nerd!" and Tupac walk away like a boss. Good luck and just remember this for next time.

  25. I had a spot on the back of my thigh that caused my ass to involuntarily twerk. Totally weird, but there was nothing I could do about it. I have a session later today. I don't know if we'll finish but the end is in sight. Not much left to do now.
