AbbyRoad got a reaction from JazzyMac in Customer Respect. Does it exist?
the guy i used to get tattooed from was kind of a dick. i couldnt finish my first big tattoo in one sitting and he was really rude about it, because he had already poured out all the color and we never got to use it. it was my second tattoo, the first tattoo being really small, taking only 15 mins. the tattoo i couldnt finish ended up taking a total of 4 hours. i could only do 2 hours in the first sitting.
i was straight up with the artist telling him i had never gotten a tattoo that large before and yet he still acted like an asshole. its not my fault he poured out the color to early, he was supposed to be the professional. i went back to him for my third tattoo, because even though he was rude i really loved how the tattoo turned out. but the second tattoo he did for me turned out pretty bad, and he still had an attitude so i decided to find another artist i gelled with more.
enter Travis McGregor.
ive been going to him for all my tattoo needs for a few years now and he is not just a talented artist but also a super cool dude. everyone at the shop he works at, Thrive Studios, is really nice. i dont really know what to say beyond that. i always have an good experience when i go there. they have a mini fridge with beverages that i usually take advantage of, and one time the guys bought me lunch. (i offered to pay for my share but they said they had it covered). a few times during sittings on my full back piece i wasnt the best client, (having to stop early and literally moaning in pain) but they never made me feel bad about it.
that being said i wouldnt expect this type of treatment from every artist or shop, but im glad i have a reference point for a good and bad shop experiences.

AbbyRoad got a reaction from Rilla in slang terms that make you cringe?
sounds like your trying to describe elitists
in my opinion elitists are a horrible part of sub-cultures and you see it everywhere. the music scene, skating etc.
the excluding nature of those people pisses me off.

the fact that everyone mentions bathing made me giggle a little bit.
isnt it obvious and common sense to bathe before getting tattoos?
the whole process should be as clean and sterile as possible, that includes your skin not just the tattooing equipment.
and i have to admit something guys....
one time i totally forgot to tip!!, and i ALWAYS tip.
it had been a long painful 6 hour sitting on my entire back and my brain felt fried. i paid my artist and than gtfo. the only things i had on my mind was getting home and smoking a joint.
after the joint i remembered i hadnt tipped. and felt super embarrassed and asshole-ish. so i texted my artist (he gave me his cell phone number during a previous sitting) and apologized said i was totally out of it and felt bad cause. but i would make it up to him next time i came to town.
oh, and i should also add, i felt especially bad about forgetting to tip because he bought me lunch that day!
next sitting i tipped double, and have not forgotten to tip since than.

AbbyRoad got a reaction from RockelMan in Feminism & Tattoos
when i see someone with what looks like awesome tattoos i do wanna take a closer look. if they look friendly and not busy i may ask to get a better view.
i find that if i have my chest piece or back piece showing the person is usually willing to show off their tattoo, and we may even shot the shit for a bit.
i wouldnt EVER ask a random person to touch their tattoos, i understand that personal space is a very real thing.
but when my friends are getting tattoos its a totally different story. when my friend mike was getting his sleeve he would pretty much surrender control of his arm to my scrutiny. and my friends getting their first tattoos always want me to check in on their healing process, give it a look over and confirm everything is going normally

There's a guy in SF named Maron Hasegawa. He had full sleeves from Colin Stevens, then decided he wanted a full suit. He flew to Japan and, in one year, got fully suited by Horiyoshi III:
It's not shown in those pics, but it goes down to his ankles. Donburi style, as they say in Japan. I think he got tattooed every other day for a year. Just think about that for a minute.
I had the pleasure of meeting Maron at Diamond Club a few years back, and I asked him a similar question: does it feel weird to be [/i]done[/i]? He seemed to imply that it was. He said he asked Horiyoshi about tattooing his head, to which the master replied, "Nah...you're done."
There's also a guy in one of Horitaka's books who has a full 9-dragon body suit that Horiyoshi did in a year and a half. It's everything but the strip down the center of his chest ("river style"), and the whole thing--neck to ankles, full sleeves--is black and gray. I think about that guy from time to time, because it's insane to me to think that someone went 30+ years without a drop of ink, then made the huge decision to get fully suited. I just can't get my head around it.
As I alluded to in the Collecting Different Styles thread, I'm really happy with what I've got, but it's all over the place. The thought of having a full cohesive body suit is absolutely foreign to me.

IMO it's nice to have and appreciate different styles as it is in other arts.it's part of being open minded and not having limits and boundries

AbbyRoad reacted to dari in Questionable Forehead Tattoos
These just make me feel sad for these people, that the other forms of self-mutilation just weren't enough for them. To me, they're not tattoos, just billboards for self loathing, fear, and desperation.

I am going to stick with the all seeing eye in the pyramid, the flaming torch, and palm tattoos of any kind. I know that some of you will say that those are so 2010, but I think that they will keep up their dominance through the first half of this year. Quotes from pretentious novels will dominate the fall and winter months.

I was at the Scottish Tattoo Convention the weekend before last, and took the opportunity to have a chat with the people there from King Carlos Tattoo in Sweden.
Calle in King Carlos is pretty well-known for his Japanese style stuff in Europe and he does a lot of large-scale stuff. I have been e-mailing back and forth a little bit about booking in to begin a backpiece, but nothing finalised yet.
I think his stuff is really refined and he seems to have that knack for making the backgrounds of japanese style tattoos look like they're flowing and curling like real water or smoke.

I shrugged it off after a day or so of being butthurt. If this guy is that big of a choad, I still win at life.
