Me too - Sid was so nice and really, really funny. Everyone acts like brothers there. I can't wait to get back. Jake the aussie - does he have a website??

The fortune cookie idea made us all laugh! If anyone is reading this post and wants to see what we did with our day, you can see it on our rather prolific tweeting: www.twitter.com/speakeasytattoo

I wonder - do you work for yourself? Is your shop your own?
-
Hang in there man. Everyone has those days, no matter what job. Sometimes nothing is going to work out for oyu: it's cosmic or something like that, haha. Chin up!

-
Yes of course! The shop is in Santa Ana, CA and hosts amazing artists Jon, Los, Bill, rob, Sid stankovitz, and a rotating door of guest tattooers including uncle Allan and Tomas Garcia plus many more. You can see their myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/sidstattoo

There are lots of tattooers out there that I think do amazing work.Unfortunately' date=' after meeting some of them-- I as a customer wouldn't consider wearing their work.
The ability to do really good work and not make a person feel like an idiot paying for it-- that's a start.
My mentor was the epitome of humility, generosity of time and knowledge were his strengths.
Always remember where you came from.[/quote']
Totally: I agree.
And Mario- it is the best job... I'm not too good for anything because I'm just honored to be where I am. Not many people cant wait to get into work, even after 7 years doing it.
-
Oh my goodness dari. This is a great shop. Thanks for sharing the link!
-
Hiya! Can't wait to keep up with the news.
-
No, now YOU'RE fired!!
-
CHAD! LOL Hahahahah... I think good tattooers are their core are just as obsessed with meeting people they are inspired by and want to be tattooed by/learn from as they are obsessed with their tattooing back at home. I also think that the one quality that can make for a terrible tattooer is someone who gets too comfortable bitching about clientele and "stupid" tattoos before their time. Yes, some stupid shit comes in and it's annoying but you shut your mouth and you do it, and you thank your lucky stars that in an industry beginning to overflow, you have a job and are about to make $80 from that Japanese character...
-
The state of grace tidbit is amazing. Holy cow, what a tight crew it would make for.
I just saw some pictures Shawn Barber posted of Memoir Tattoo and I just about shat myself. It's fucking GORGEOUS
-
Mario: I like what you said. It seems to me that the tattooers who, in the past few years, have most greatly influence my work ethic and what kind of professional I'd like to be are those who truly make tattooing #1. It's an easy thing to say, but not so hard to actually apply.
Julio: I 'm not too sure about that man, I know a lot of pretty amazing vegan tattooers. Although some people woudl still call that food, "bad."

Oops tim pausinger

I was at a very anti social shop for way too long that wasn't the most relaxed with letting tattooers travel so most of my getting out in the world and learning has been this year which - at 6 years of professionally tattooing - feels unfortunate and a loss, but... Better late than never!
New tribe tattoo - Toronto
Passage tattoo - Toronto
Speakeasy tattoo - Toronto
La main Bleue - Mons, Belgium
Pure Body Art - brooklyn NY
Black cobra tattoo - Salisbury Maryland
Sid's tattoo - orange county CA
Various apartments in London
Various apartments in Amsterdam
Various apartments in Montreal
Montreal tattoo con
Calgary tattoo con
Paris tattoo con
Brigton tattoo con x2
And being that the list above is so shit, how about the artists who have worked in my shop in our first year of business as a home base for myself, jen and Adrian, but also a sabbatical for pro tattooers:
Dan sinnes
Jon gray
Adam sage
Josh egnew
Jason lambert
Nikki balls
Los Ocegueda
Eric Wilcox
Tim pausing
+lots more who have confirmed for future dates!

Hi Nick.
Chad and I discuss this too when I'm at wit's end and furiously texting him about how it's just a cluster fuck, this job of tattooing.
Obviusly you will know this but the ease that my career took on after hiring a dedicated manager who handles every contact that comes through the shop. It's my opinion that to fully relax and avoid the tipping-point stress levels is to absolutely restrict interaction with clients to as little as possible.
I also have started changing my hours drastically, wherein I now will draw and work on extraneous art projects and machine tinkering around 7 am - 12. Shop opens at noon, I tattoo til 7 or 8 and then I do my best to sign off for the evening and stay out till the next morning.
It might be a great goal to make quotas for yourself. As in the maximum amount of work you'd like to do daily/weekly/monthly for each particular field. Ie- "I only fix up 3 machines at max per day and if I finish that, then I'm not to do more and simply go home." or "I only participate in one art show per month at the most and decline the rest"
I think that as tattooers we are naturally hustlers and it's in our blood to GOGOGOGO all the time. I'm sure that with conscious effort you'll be able to make things slowly come together.
Halloween Tattoo Flash or Flesh

We had a Hallowe'en special this year but actually had a low turnout rate because of Hallowe'en's eve falling on a Saturday night. Almost all our regular participants in fun flash days were hung over, too tired, or still our partying! Hahahah! We never do special prices. I just don't htink it's right and has never really sat well with me, although I understand that everyone's shop runs under different mantras... But we do try to make sure all the flash can be done near our minimuym price and try to sell a few $200-$400 pieces in there too, as there's usually a taker!
