good question, I may take a weekend flight solo if I get blessings.

IF your at all thinking of going to this do it!  its a blast been here a few times from oklahoma and couldnt be happier with everything from lodging to convention

So this wasn't a "latest tattoo" but it was a recent experience in a tattoo shop....
Last night, I was fortunate enough to attend a very informal, intimate get-together in Shanghai Kate's backyard. Kate had Lyle Tuttle and Jacci Gresham spending the day with her. It was absolutely unreal to sit and chat with these folks. As someone who is very into the history of tattooing, it was like stepping into a time machine. 

So some updates on my upcoming tattoos:

I walked into the local shop I've been wanting to check out tonight and tried to get a walk in, but unfortunately the guy I wanted to get tattooed by had to be somewhere tonight and didn't have time. But the good news is I have an appointment for tomorrow and I picked this awesome Cap Coleman dragon design. The guy doing the tattoo is Wes Garvick, who is on the short list of local artists I really want something by. Love his no nonsense, heavy black style. I also did end up booking with Topper in April. He's going to be doing a really vintage and classy lady liberty design for me.

I booked my flight and my stay in San Jose, I have the consultation date, I have the deposit; I'm coming for you Horitomo.  March better get here fast so I can get this process started!  I will probably say something similar after the consultation when I set my appointment to start. 

Well I was gonna give it a rest for a little while........and then Shanghai Kate talked me into booking with Jack Rudy! Put my deposit down to get in with him in April. 

ahhh now i have to decide between this or west texas convention

Not strictly 'news', but it made me chuckle this morning, so I thought I'd share:

Next, 808nm is not the proper wavelength, every commercial machine runs at 1064, and 2 others for harder colors, but 95% of tattoos can be removed at that wavelength. There is no talk of pulse control either and his depth gauge is a guess, at best.
Further signs that the guy, while apparently smart enough to rig this up, does not fully understand what he's doing - he states in the first video "dude, I can see the ink changing colors" - which is false. The white you see is actually water vapor, from the laser exploding it within your skin. Lasers do not remove tattoos, they facilitate the body to dispose of the pigments.
You wouldn't go to a kitchen magician for a tattoo, why go to one to have it removed?

For me its simple, tattoos are not a necessity. I do however derive personal fulfillment from being tattooed and sharing/discussing tattoos. I have always liked/had the desire to be tattooed. I share more personally when in a setting talking or getting tattooed substantially more than I do in other settings. On occassion my personal situations actually help others. Not long ago I was talking tattoos and the talk of loosing a loved one came up and I shared my losses and my outlook on them. He let me know some weeks later that what I said really helped him along. Tattooing is a positive thing for me, maybe some people feel better with a TAG watch and it helps them with self esteem or worth. For me I appreciate tattooing and art done by them and in a very small way I feel I help them continue their craft all the while allowing me to look way cooler than I am and actually interact with people in an unguarded way.
For me that's more than a luxury .

year number 2 coming up end of april. Anyone inclined should make it out, good times good tattooing going on.
