I for one dont think that its age. over the years of tattooing people, and im sure many will agree that. it seems like when the biggest badest looking young buck comes for ink. alot of the times its a young healthy man. who turns out to be the biggest pain in the ass. needs a smoke break, then bathroom, then a drink of water etc. i remember after a session from hell that taxed a massive amount of extra time. i sat down with a clip board and pencil. trying to crack the code. so i could spot these people before hand. so the price will be right for the time. this was 20 years ago. i may have failed figuring that out. but i wrote a poem that most tattooers dig.
its called tough customer, and i submitted it online to a contest and won a real nice plaque w/ silver engraved etc.
    TOUGH CUSTOMER
This tough acting dude walks into my place, telling tall tails, like he was an ace.
i want a tattoo, all black and real big. the small ones look wimpy, but the big ones i dig.
I been every where, ive done every thing, when i come to town, all the bitches would cream.
cuz im big and im burley, and talented too. but if you believe that. then you dont have a clue.
cuz when he was finished,... the talkin part done.
he flinched like a bitch, when i fired my gun.
when he turned to look. his face was all geen. i laughed to myself, and thought oh yeah, you mean.
his sweat was a flowing, his jockies were wet. he was singing the blues fo his home you can bet.
but we made a deal. and the cash was up front. so when he weenied out.
    i told him real blunt.
when you want a tattoo. you must be the man. grit your teeth or do what you can.
but since you cant take it and act like you should.
two quarter inch lines never paid so good. jeff etzel

He was tired of his pollen allergies and wanted to remove his sinuses. The doc at the norte hang out suggested a more "invasive" procedure.
I would have recommended an allegra script and a box of kleenex. To each his own.

I used to care when someone on the internet would rag on me about my art; now I spend more time creating art, less time caring about what people think. If you're going to do it though, do it right and ask someone who knows how like a real-life tattooer in person, preferably while you're getting tattooed. Buy vintage flash books, study and TRACE the images until the style becomes your own, do some research and find the image sources, credit the creators, and draw/paint all the time. Everybody borrows from each other in every field - this documentary is a great summary of that "Everything is a Remix" Most of all, don't apologize for doing something you love; anyone who tries to make you feel bad for that should check themselves and figure out why they feel the need to worry about what someone on the internet is doing. I don't think you should be apologizing for going to art school. Fancy or not. Nor should you have to explain yourself or your family situation. Playing the 'who's more oldschool' or 'who's more deserving' game is pointless.

This was something I suggested on another forum, but never saw any progress on it. I plan on getting tattooed every major city I visit, but sometimes I'm unaware of who's tattooing in the area. A map would be awesome.

a uniform? as a customer I would walk out of a shop like that just as soon as I entered. I deal with enough attempts to increase conformity at work and I don't want that from a TATTOO STUDIO. I feel like a tattoo studio should embrace the weird (getting tattooed is strange no matter how you think of it) and not the false sense of "sameness"...

Paroled sex offender......from a sentence for aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a child. I'm certain the child is living a life sentance with invisable bars and the powers that be couldn't parol a lesser criminal to make room for the pos rapist.

I find Lilies the most fun to draw and they make some of the best flowers to tattoo.

But the Lotus is nice to but really its become like the rose in the west.

The Full Back Piece Thread prompted me to start a new one about what the experience was/is like of getting your entire back done. I've actually always been extremely nervous about starting (my goal is to start before I'm 30) because I'm convinced my back is weirdly sensitive..
SO. How's it been for all of you who either have full coverage or are on your way? How's the process? How incredibly draining is it? How much have you had to plan, artistically? Mentally? Physically? Financially?

I was CrossFit certified (the Level 1 cert plus a few of the speciality certs- Olympic lifting, Gymnastics) for a few years up until they required you to re-certify.
To me it's a potentially very programme for novices who come along in good health and have no major imbalances or injuries. In a short space of time the trainee is exposed to a wide range of barbell work, kettlebell stuff, gymnastics, running, rowing etc. Factor in the volume of work and combine that with an improved diet and most new people experience some pretty good gains in a relatively short space of time.
That said, in the medium to long term I think the randomised nature of CrossFit programming means that many people begin to plateau. You will make strength gains, but only to a point on CrossFit programming, for example. Most of the guys I started training with when CrossFit was new to Ireland have now moved on to tailoring their programming to their specific needs rather than shoehorning themselves into a one-size-fits-all randomised approach.
The other pitfall, going back to my mention of people being injury-free and carrying no imbalances, is that CrossFit involves quite a lot of high-rep work on movements that can lead to problems. A lot of the same guys I trained with ended up with problems ranging from achilles tendon ruptures linked to box jumps to people developing knee and shoulder problems. You're not guaranteed to get injured doing CrossFit, but I'd argue that if you do it for a long time and with intensity then chances are you are going to need a good physio as if you were doing a contact sport.

growing up a poor black kid in mississippi oh wait... I am a pale face.
I got some sketchy at best tats at a juvenile facility in the early 90s. In my mid 20s I began fighting in smokers tournaments and later MMA. and noticed these tattoos didnt represent me so I had them covered on my arms and back. I never put much thought into it but now in my mid 30s I really have an appreciation for art and artists and want to litter myself with said art
