  1. hey, bryan! we did meet at your opening party, but only briefly. it was a great party and the shop is beautiful. anyway, hope to cross paths again and welcome.
  2. just remembered that at the first shop i worked at, i was made to sign a contract stating that if i left, i couldn't work at a shop within a certain mile radius of the shop. pretty ridiculous, but i hear it was standard for a lot of shops in the 80's/90's. i wish i still had a copy.
  3. i'd rather just tattoo in my kitchen than work for a non-tattooer, or a piercer. i don't fault others, i know we all have different situations and it is very hard to get the perfect job, but i just couldn't do it.
  4. ha...only one other dude (dalton) at the shop likes the smiths, everyone else hates it, so i don't play it, though it sometimes comes up on shuffle, and everyone groans or mocks it hahaha! oh, but i did forget lungfish and the pupils, duh.
  5. hahaha...yeah i actually took a bunch of Ghostface off my ipod and some other hip-hop i love, but just isn't appropriate in the shop. we get a lot of gay clients and i just feel horrible when a song comes on and "faggot" is dropped. also, waaaay over harder music, with a few exceptions, but never in the shop really. lately, it's been a mix of jazz (thelonious monk, bill evans, billie holiday, miles davis), Kraftwerk, flaming lips, vampire weekend, the fall, stuff like that. we always have lou reed, iggy pop, nick cave and leonard cohen in the mix! hmmm...ramones, the clash, misfits, gorilla biscuits, dag nasty, descendents, led zeppelin, nirvana...too many! i can't work to metal or hardcore anymore, barely listen to it in general. can't take it anymore, i can't stand being yelled at! and it just gets me on edge.
  6. frog's right, just have a sit down, face to face talk ASAP, and thank them for giving you a job, and explain politely that you're leaving, hopefully to a shop that's far from his, and i think a one month notice is good in tattooing, or even two months if you can pull that off. that way your old boss doesn't feel like you're screwing him over. also, i'd say tell your boss before you go telling ANYBODY else, especially online. word like that travels fast. i left another shop here in town a few years ago and i still send people over there if it's a job i think they're better suited for. and they send people to us if they're all busy, or because they close 4 hours earlier than us.
  7. i happen to have the "henry" prototype, engraved "#1"...so proud to own it. got it from scott a couple of years ago!
  8. yeah, we got that 3 inch book too! every sheet.
  9. chad, you are a winner at lists! your lists are the longest!
  10. thanks, dari! i do really want to look into it, and honestly, i'm stereotyping without even checking it out yet. i want the benefits, just not the other stuff.
  11. yeah i've seen that, forgot about that one. i'm hoping the hardymarks one will be more like the jerry "tattoo master" book, with a lot of personal info, and maybe some history you know? also, i've seen photos from a friend's collection of jerry's entire portfolio. and a few tattoos that are attributed to jerry were actually done by johnny walker, in jerry's shop. there's photos of johnny doing the tattoos.
  12. awesome examples, shane. and you hit on something else i've always wondered about, but have little info on. the relationship between jeery and lieber. a lot of people don't know that jerry's earlier work was a lot different and he basically adopted lieber's style and ran with it. but if you see a lieber sheet, it looks EXACTLY like jerry could've done it. i've heard hardy will be publishing a book on brooklyn joe, i hope it's addressed in there, and maybe we can shed some light on this.
  13. oh snap! frog in the house!

  14. i've thought about doing some form of yoga for a while, but i don't know much about the different types or which would benefit me the most, as far as my main concern of my back pain from tattooing. i also run often and would like to just be more flexible and get a good stretch i guess. my other problem is all the hokus-pokus, mythical new age bullshit superstition involved. i don't want to hear any of that shit, i just want a good stretch and to feel good. any atheist yoga out there????
  15. nick colella, erik gillespie and i from chicago tattoo will be working the state of grace show in san francisco october 22-23-24... i will also be at three kings tattoo in brooklyn november 4-5-6. thanks.
  16. c'mon, bart, it was mark anthony the popstar right?
  17. ok i remember! cool. you must mean '05, though.
  18. amoxill...what did i tattoo on you?
  19. yes! exactly...haha. you're right, though, it is a double-edged sword, and the flush of new tattooers is now greater than the increase in business. i've already run across a number of them who have already moved on after not being able to earn a living, or who need a second job just to survive.
  20. good list though! my first one was at a skinhead house!
  21. we saw the wish list, now who have you been tattooed by?? here's my list, i think it's complete... this might be a bit off topic, or the opposite, but here's who HAS tattooed me... -adrian luna -adam siehr -dan trocchio (multiple) -jon reiter (multiple) -jeremy tupta -poohbear -mike bruce -myself -dan gilsdorf -jerry ware -seth ciferri (multiple) -scott sylvia -jeff zuck -tim biedron -harlan thompson -tomas garcia -adam shrewsbury -dave cavalcante -jeremy swed -nick colella (multiple) -bailey robinson -jef whitehead -erik gillespie -jen munford -nick rodin -eli quinters -bert krak -brad mariachi -aaron coleman -cleen rock one -carol (forgot her last name) -dawn cooke -julio avila (multiple) -scott harrison -josh arment -matt ziolko -dale grande -keith underwood -jason mcafee -gary galke -josh howard
