  1. times have changed and there are a lot of people now getting tattooed who shouldnt be. because they are doing for the wrong reasons, that being the popularity factor. these people would never have gotten tattooed 5-6 years ago and probably looked down their noses at those of us who do have them. because they dont actually love tattoos and dont really want them at their core being. they are never going to be happy with any thing most of the time. so its important to know who you're dealing with. or like you said maybe they just picked the wrong guy for the job and had different expectations or they could have picked the right guy but did not explain thouroughly what the want. I for example approach tattoos in many different way some times i appraoch a pinup from sailor jerry's mindset and sometime i go in a chris conn direction with tighter details and what not so i a;ways ask my client how trad vs rendered they wanted. or maybe he did overstep his limitations but thats a neccessary eveil if he is ever to grow beyond his limitations. what i would evaluate is whether he is turning out consistantly good confident tattoos. we all have unhappy clients from time to time so its important to look at the big picture. talk with him and see what he thinks the problem is. if it's just a personal taste issue and its not his tattoo ability that is in question im sure y'all can figure it out. if he's just doing bad tattoos that are drawn and/or tattooed badly then thats a lil more complicated. anyway what im really saying is I just dont know.
  2. which theres nothing wrong with just being a dagger i just like how these two guys breath life into something that is essentially a straight inanimate object
  3. yeah scott and jasons are my favs. i cant put my finger on it exactly. their daggers just seem to be visually alive whereas i feel most daggers i see no matter how awesome and well done just seem to be just sitting there being a dagger.
  4. i've got some good tattoos but none of my tatttoos give me more joy than this one.
  5. i was 15 one of my buddies was going to get tattooed by dragon mike in houston texas and my other friend was getting tattooed by richard stell at scorpion studios which was across the street at the time around '91/'92 and i tagged along all i really remember is how terrified i was of richard after he tossed me out for drawing in the shop and mimicking the designs on the wall. i was 15 and didnt realize what a faux pah that was. also richard was a much bigger and orney looking dude then than now if you can imagine.i still came back and hung out almost daily with my buddies but i hung in the back scared of richard. that impression stuck with me so even as a grown man in my 30's id see richard at conventions and was afraid to approach him til the san jose convention 3 years ago where i walked up and introduced my self and he remebered i believe because the first thing he said after i told him my name and that used to hang out in his shop was "oh yeah, didnt i throw you the F%@$ out?" then i got tattooed by him and he was the nicest guy and very quick witted so then i felt pretty silly for being afraid of him for all those years. ha

  8. i was 16 or 17. i got a small tattoo on my calve. back then i never wore shoes or socks. as soon as school let out the shoes and socks came off. so the day after i got it done i was in the kitchen and i had socks on(to hide the tattoo) and the conversation went like this mom "so letes see it" me "see what?" mom "the tattoo. dont play dumb" me "i dont know what youre talking about" mom "BS, youre wearing socks. youre hiding something."

  12. all the best can be traced straight back to Ed hardy. when it comes to tigers and eagles Ed pretty much set the standard. thats my opinion anyways. there are a lot of folks doing awesome looking cats but if i had to pick the best of the best of the best i would have to say Ed Hardy Chris Trevino Tim Lehi Jason brooks Mike wilson Chris garver
  13. i used to have horrible wrist issues and one thing i found that really helped as silly as it sounds is jumping rope.
  14. the people i draw the most influence from when doing Ladies are Chris Conn and the best of all time in my opinion Bob Wicks. outside of tattooing I go to paper fairs and buy lots of vintage prints of lady illustrations ie post cards, posters, magazine etc etc.
