  1. Reasons mostly, sometimes other stuff.
  2. @hfs40000 so good! Jeff is the best dude
  3. @heathenist congrats! Really cool tattoo you got there, well deserved
  4. At least I didn't have to worry about hitting my knee on the seat in front of me, but yeah I imagine them being pretty similar.
  5. When you were showing Chad your sugar skulls I knew I had seen them on here before but I felt awkward saying "hey, I know those tattoos from the internets" plus you were with friends and I didn't wanna hold you up. Next time I'm in Austin I need to make a week of it, I woke up at 3 that morning in Colorado, 33 degrees at my house, off the plane into 90 and humid, and then of course I drove home in a blizzard yesterday.
  6. Thanks @polliwog I'm so glad to be done with it, there's a picture in the lowdown thread for anyone who hasn't seen it on Instagram. Once I heal up I'll put one in this thread.
  7. @dcostello I was the guy who came in around 2 and found out I got double booked. Your knee looked killer when it was finished, have fun healing that beast. Here's what Chad put on me just a couple hours later:

    What up y'all!

Welcome to LST! Great first tattoo
  9. Tracked down a copy of the Zeis book from yellowbeak last month, picked up my copy of Lost at Sea from the post office today and the sailor Vern books just got to Colorado Springs this week so mine should be here soon!
  10. Yeah last time I was there Brad Stevens was guesting and I got to see Mr Byrne put a reaper on a guys neck
  11. I'll just miss you @SStu I'm gonna be down there next Saturday
  12. I love the way a tattoo can move with your body, when I was taking a picture of my leg for the tattoo of the month contest I had my foot on the counter for better lighting and realized that when I bend my knee the tiger gets a really sympathetic look on its face. It made me laugh.
  13. Essentially healed tiger head from Tim Lehi. Done at the Summit Convention here in Colorado.

    Art thread.

Speaking of Hokusai, has anyone else seen all the original woodblock prints @gominekobooks has been selling on Instagram? I can't really afford any right now and the really cool ones sell in minutes but keep an eye open if you want a cool piece of art history for your wall.
  15. Look through more portfolios and find someone who you know will draw it up in a way you like.
  16. I met Dave briefly at the summit show, he came by towards the end of my session with Tim, seems like a really good dude. I'm sure this book is awesome and I think I'll get one from him next time I'm in Denver.
  17. Second votes for Dedication and Lifetime in Denver, Mammoth American and Th'ink Tank are also worth checking out.
  18. Are you being paid to promote that website?
  19. There's a few good threads about preparing for a long session, I think one is called pre/post tattoo rituals (sorry no link, I'm on my phone). Another good read is an article called "nibble and sip" by David Bruehl, a rad tattooer who took knowledge from endurance biking and applied it to sitting through a long session.
  20. Yup, @Graeme hit it right on the head. Some of my favorite tattoos were drawn right on to my skin, so obviously there's no way to see that ahead of time. The few times that I've had to book a consult ahead of time I did walk in to (mostly) completed drawings on tattoo day but other than that the people I've been tattooed by like to draw it up day of.
  21. Maybe you could cap your shoulder with some clouds, maybe throw some lightning in there, or a spider web... Flowers are always nice too. Just a couple ideas I got from looking at the space.
  22. What little I did get to see looked fantastic in person, I did try to keep my nose out of their business as I'm sure it's uncomfortable being basically naked in a room full of people but as you can imagine instagram and even high definition photos do his work no justice.
  23. I saw Gogue last Friday at the summit convention and he was just working on backpiece after backpiece. Man is a machine. I got to look through his portfolio and see some cool ones I hadn't seen online and though he was really busy with everything he took a second to say hi and seemed like a real nice down to earth dude. Have fun with your leg, I'm excited to see your progress!
  24. Another thing is I vaguely remember a big hullabaloo around the time Tomo opened his books for the upcoming year. Some tattooers only add time for new clients once in a while so you may have to establish contact at the right time
