  1. Yea but plenty of owl tattoos aren't hipster and its a fine line with whipshading. My wife calls my (small) owl tattoo my hipster tattoo and it bugs me haha but I still like it. Animals that are humans is getting a bit old. The hipsters themselves annoy me most of all. Ive seen a few with amazing traditional western tattoos but they are still hipsters and thus bug me. They take many things I love and make it a trendy joke and for that I despise this "sub-culture". I
  2. Posting on this one topic since the other topic is pointless since this one exists. Wont lie, didn't read all 3 pages so If Im repeating something ....sorry. So I guess I don't understand why someone (non-tattooer) who respects tattooing etc, provides a clean , quality location and fair split cant own and run a quality/respectable tattoo shop. Esp if they are devoted and have proven dedication. I get that its rare and hard esp now a days but people are people and even "tattooers" can be rip-off cash grabbers (i can think of examples like this in my location). But I understand the need to be guarded about the craft/trade/art of tattooing. Dante Di Massa, frith street, is someone that comes to mind (as a positive example)....some great tattooers here work for him . Mario Desa I believe even does guest spots at Firth St. (Unless its under new ownership) Its a place Ive wanted to get work done at since I started getting heavily tattooed.
  3. I think that tattooers and "enthusiasts" talking to each other about tattoo work is very different. I love talking about tattoos etc with people who understand and respect it. But I hate the " my boy is doing good work in his backyard yo, if your interested"
  4. @ShawnPorter hahaha I try to deal with the pain as best as possible and people tell me I do a good job. I love the Scott Harrison tattoo BTW...thats great. Still love the blog, always look forward to video updates!
  5. In MTL my wife got asked to have her chest pictured as she has some nice work on it. The guy spent 10 mins trying to get her to take her top off. She said no maney times and got to the point that she had to put her foot down and said that if it was a deal breaker then dont take the picture. Now shes put off by any sort of tattoo pictures that is not the artist. The vibe wasnt respecting the art and getting the picture of the tattoo. This was her first time at a convention so next time I dont think she will be as into it. Seriously, the 10 seconds it takes to ask means a lot to the artist and the tattooed individual that it goes a long way. If they say no, then big deal thats the risk of asking but at least you respect someone wishes.
  6. Get to listen to lots of stuff while working...past week has been filled with Tombs-Path of totality the smiths-s/t morrissey-Bona Drag wittr-celestial linage (didnt get this band till this album...i got over my hang ups and enjoy this band now) swans-white light... leviathan-massive conspiracy against all life (looking forward to the new album) DI6-B.W.E.W.S.S lungfish-rainbows.. unwound-fake plastic ideas. mastodon-the hunter (sounds like 90ds rock and BOSTON....and I actually enjoy that) Jesu-Ascension the cure-pornography rwake-rest
  7. Yes....Boston convention. Chad and Jondix work was at Montreal convention.....First two conventions Ive been to. I always avoided them because growing up conventions for other interests I have always sucked for the most part. Tattoo conventions seem to have some goofy aspects but the tattoo work/books/machines etc and meeting other interesting tattooers/collectors make it a great time. Esp Montreal, love that city. Thanks for the kind words on the Thomas work. He is very good to me and my wife and glad I have him doing my chest/sleeve...feel like hes going to bring them together well. Hope to be spending the next year finishing this up...have a few more ideas for him. Also planning on big work from Chris.......Saved is a great place.
  8. Ron Wells did this! Love it. 2 weeks ago got work from chad koeplinger and jondix, no pictures online but once healed I will grab some. Also working on chest and arm with thomas hooper...this was the last blog update. Eisen Flower. « Hoopers Electric – Meditations in Atrament 2011 was busy....I see 2012 being more of the same for my wife and I.
  9. Ron Henry Wells (hedid a hand of mysteries on me)...i think you guys know if him but people esp in New England really need to learn whats up. Ollie Street by Street, Blog by Blog. he doesn't post a lot of his tattoos since he is picky and is lazy about his blog. But the guy is simple, clean and tattoos damn well. I enjoy his style. He did a woman face on me that's IMO close to perfect.
  10. That Shige phoenix is amazing. I agree in terms of a eastern/Japanese style phoenix that's how it should look. But, i may not have explained mine exactly.... Mine comes more from Crowley/Alchemy and a more European based phoenix aesthetic. Burning up the Flame of his Prayer, and born again—the Phoenix! I love the image of the Phoenix! A classic and timeless!!!
  11. Yes... I wanted a phoenix but I don't like chicken face (its cool, but not for me), so I asked Thomas to do mine and I am VERY happy. I love the all seeing eye even if they pop up in tattoos all the damn time....its a pretty universal image. http://thomashooper.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/eisen-flower-thomas-hooper-tattooing-014-july-21-2011.jpg?w=740&h=1110
