    What was the movie like?
We don't have theaters up here, so I just add titles to my list for next summer.
Has anyone seen The Machinist with Christian Bale? IMHO some of his best work ever.

If a tattoo artist walked into my school, half the boys would try to get tattoo on their face and necks as their first tattoo.
We talk about tattoos a lot and I always try to express to them the importance of how your tattoo will impact your life.
IMHO this guy above needed that talk.

@Stewart Robson I know what you mean about half a bodysuit. I guess I should not have called it that.
You are right in what you said basically just a lot of Japanese tattoos that are tied together with filler.
I guess where I should start is finding a tattooer that I want to start with.
I get tied up with foolish details all the time, this may be one of those times.

There are sometimes exceptions to any rule and I agree with Tim but I would go much further and use the term parasite. They are feeding off something and giving nothing back.
I fail to see how any tattooer can understand what they are doing to people if they have no tattoos. Yeah there's the pain side. Mostly it's not that bad, but if you're tattooing ribs, chests, backs etc you should at least have empathy with your customer. But more than the sensation of being tattooed, there's the mental and emotional side to being a tattooed person. The way it feels to have made a deliberate choice to get a tattoo, placed a certain amount of trust in a stranger (usually) and to have the results with you every moment of your existence. To know what it's like to live with a tattoo, to see it age with your body etc. Not forgetting the social side, the way other people interact with you, either positive or negative. All these things cannot be understood without having tattoos.
Being heavily tattooed is certainly no indicator of the quality of a tattooers work, but I have zero respect for tattooers with no tattoos.

I personally do not respect tattooers as much that have no tattoos either. Now maybe I'm being closeminded but fuck it. I wanna know that a tattooer is devoted to his trade; mentally, emotionally, financially and most of all physically. I'm not talking about being heavily tattooed but at least a forearm shot or two. If you're a tattooer and have not one single tattoo or maybe just one... You're just a tourist in our business, go back to selling real estate, there's more of that 'glory' stuff you're lookin' for.

Good day everyone, I am so happy to have found this place.
I guess I should start with a little about me... I will try to keep it short, I tend to talk a lot :)
Name is Craig and I live in Resolute Bay, Nunavut in Canada's high arctic. About 600 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Been working in the school here going on 8 years. This is our last year this far north as we got a 18 month old boy now and he needs to be closer to family
As for ink, I have some simple script on my wrist "baby steps"
I had a small spider on my chest and a BAD band of dragonflies that I got from flash at a street shop on my right bicep :(
I had both of those covered up with a dragon half sleeve and chest plate.
I went years between the dragonflies and the dragon because I could not find an artist that I trusted. I now preach to all my students NOT to rush a tattoo. My recent work was done at Trouble Bound Studios in Newfoundland, which is where I am from and spend my summers. Pics will follow I promise when I get my good wife to take some for me.
Anyway I have been hanging out on twitter a while now @str8edg and was directed here. I am planning some more work and guess I need some guidance. Before I start spouting off questions I will dig in the archives a little and see what I can see.
Thats enough from me for now, thanks for reading... if you did :)

yikes, now I feel I have to self-censor all my posts.
I have commented to people "nice work" or "where did you get your work done"
    I say I have a half-sleeve and I do call it "ink"
I'm very glad I just read this entire thread... I am going to adjust my personal dictionary now, well not really
@JAllen I agree with you 100% I have been calling it "the quest for cool" for a long time. I preach it to my students daily. If you are trying to be cool you will never be cool, just be you.

as an observation to slang and/or jargon, it used to be a way of communication that allowed you to identify "like minded" individuals and had a relevance to creating something outside of the mainstream. now as mass culture becomes a giant homogenized cluster of what people think is cool and rebellious is just the newest marketing trend. everyone has t-shirts with swirly designs and crosses that are purposely mis-printed and faded to imply that its somehow unique and different. i swear i've seen dudes who are old enough to have grand kids wearing these things. too many people are trying to invent cool new phrases to try and push out beyond this influx of mass coolness. its just a matter of time before people start adding "zilla" or "shiz" to things and saying phrases like "that dude is an inkzilla" or mashing together other overused catchy sounding words. so just remember, all the cool folks are the ones that aren't trying to be anything other than themselves.
