  1. As long as there are no scabs you should be fine. I've swam after 7 days without any issues. Saltwater seems to soften up scabs way more than fresh water, and I think this is were the potential problem might be.
  2. Got a little spider from Dylan Homer at Tattoo Union in Vancouver Also, how do you embed instagram posts? I can't figure that out...
  3. I'm filling up an awkward space this Saturday with a spider. I m stoked.
  4. To me, what separates a whatever non-collector from a collector is their interest in the history and culture of whatever art form. Just owning artwork doesn't make you a collector, there needs to be a deeper interest.
  5. Tattoos age, just like you and your skin. It will never look like the day you got it, it will only get "worse"- or lived in. That being said, it looks like the teeth part is from scarring, but it still looks like a cool tattoo, I'd leave it. I don't think the sun did this. Then I'd basically would have to redo all my tattoos each year cause I spend quite a bit of time outside with no shirt on.
  6. the actual needles punches part of getting tattooed isn't too bad, but that motherfucking greensoap wipe is like going to hell and back.
  7. I'll go against everyone here and say that if you aren't comfortable with the idea of getting a tattoo, hold it off for a while. Your skin will still be there, the artist will probably only be better at their medium and you might even get some interest of your savings.. I don't think that you'll regret your tattoo, the artist is great and it's a very classic Japanese design. What people regret is lame moto text, turd birds, upside-down tattoos, whatever springbreak tattoo and dagger handles that poke out of your neckline that looks like a dickhead.
  8. Well you did cross the holy line of talking about tattoo pricing, also known as the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy of online tattoo culture.
  9. My friend has one pretty much like that done by someone at Idle Hands in SF. I'm pretty sure it's a classic design but I don't know who it's from originally.
  10. Percy Waters crane/lady by Tony Nilsson at Blue Arms Tattoo
  11. I don't think I'll every follow any artists instruction to re-wrap anything unless it's with a breathable bandage.. Suffocating your tattoo/skin seems weird to me, even if it's only 4-8 hours at the time. After the initial over night bandage, followed by a good cleaning and letting it air dry before a thin layer of Aquaphor, the tattoo has always been dry and doesn't produce any more plasma. I did put a 2nd bandage on my chest (was recommended by the artist due to real cold weather and also doing a bit of driving), but it didn't even have a trace of plasma on it. I've also never had any artist actually use clingwrap on my stuff, it's all bandages. Is there any science behind re-wrapping your tattoo?
  12. Got a source for that MRSA from SHOT? You'd think that stuff would end up on at least a blog from the firearms industry considering the insane amount of press there. What I can find is from SHOT 2015 is Eric Fritz and Jeff McIntosh tattooed as a part of a AIATT Foundation fundraiser. I also heard about tattoos at the 2016 show as well, but I can't find anything on it at the moment. If the tattooer is a professional, I wouldn't really care if it's at SHOT, Comicon or whatever tattoo convention. They all use the same convention venues anyway... I'm pretty sure they didn't sterilize the entire carpet floor at the Vancouver tattoo convention the two times I've been there, so is there a higher chance of getting MRSA at a non-tattoo convention vs a tattoo convention?
  13. I don't read any of Brooks posts like he was shopping around for price, he was simply asking what an artist charged and they told him they had a shop price. If he asked multiple artists then yea, I agree that it's weird, but I don't read his posts like that. Do you guys really find it weird to ask the artist what they charge an hour or for an estimate on a piece for a walk-in? We aren't talking about scheduled appointments here.. There is no consult, there is no back and forth texting or emails, it's just showing up to the shop, talk to the artist and get a tattoo. Not everything needs 5 weeks of planning, especially not tattoos that are exact copies of Sailor Jerry flash..
  14. If you have scabs, then they will become soft in the water and that make them really prone to getting scraped off. If you don't have scabs then you will probably be fine. I've taken my tattoos into the ocean after 7 days without worrying a bit about it cause of their healed state.
  15. No, an apprentice won't charge the same as the owner, that would be retarded.. However, the artists (that aren't apprentices) might have the same hourly rate. I don't see what's the real weird thing here? And did you put your name on a waiting list for a specific artist or the shop in general? If the shop, yeah then I think you did the right thing about backing out. You should pick the artist..
  16. Yeah there is a huge difference... Hell, I've had a difference in left and right arm, even though the same product was used. I think it depends so much on how your body is doing, so everything including your diet counts. Only thing I do know, is that drinking beers after getting a tattoo, then Aquaphor for 2 days then pretty much dry for the rest works for me in most cases. Sweating within 3 days has always resulted in scabs and color loss.
  17. My 2 cents is that if you're gonna be an idiot and tattoo yourself (I've done my own leg), at least spend the small amount of money to get sterile needles and tattoo ink.
  18. I hate it when people with 1/2/no tattoos give me tips on how to heal my tattoos..
  19. Tons of textiles give you a UPF without telling you about it... Most companies just simply don't bother to test it or slap a label on it to claim something (claims are a dangerous game to play in the apparel world). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_protective_clothing
  20. Who is the artist behind your wifes sleeve?
  21. I got this on Saturday by JF Bourbon (Bait and Schlang in Montreal) at the Vancouver convention. Sorry for the shitty photo..
  22. Emilio Hidalgo at The Fall does realistic stuff, I guess it's nice work. I have a friend who has a sleeve by him which I think looks "nice", considering that I don't like any realism tattoos or can really tell a good from a bad one... There might also be a guy or two at Gastown that can help. Final idea would be that Saga guy at Rainfire something something tattoo. It will never look like your reference tattoo, but you can make it look more like a finished piece of work. Out of curiosity, which shop did you get it at?
  23. I just told my mom that I was getting a tattoo. After the session she got to see it and her words were something like "that's a nice tattoo but I don't like it" which as been a reoccurring theme for every new tattoo I get. Dad is not a fan for sure, but he just ignores them for the most part. I think until I get my hands done, they'll be accepting of it.
  24. There are a bunch of good artists in BC! I am mostly into traditional tattooers, so if that's what you're looking for I can probably give you a few suggestions. An easy way to get a general idea about a bunch of artists is to check out the ones attending the tattoo convention: Vancouver Tattoo and Culture Show | April 22-24 2016 | Vancouver BC
