  1. I find based on questions I get asked a lot from "plainskins" is that people who aren't big tattoo-heads think they have to justify getting tattoos by giving them personal meaning. A quote or a small image is easy to be meaningful. A badass battle royale tattoo probably has no meaning. It's just badass. People can't make that kind of commitment without a personal connection. Just like some people can't have one night stands. (This is just my opinion based on the dumb people I know who get lame tattoos).

I have a hard time "wanting" anything with meaning. Sure, i got the kids' name and one for my grandpa, but to me, even getting tattooed with an image/phrase that means nothing to me now, will remind me of where I was in my life when I got it. I guess my tattoos are more "Dogs Eared Pages" in the book of my life.

(fuck, that's kinda catchy, huh?) lol

  2. Not so fast! I thought he meant between Ian & Scott. But then Graeme himself said he wasn't here to make friends before you did, so if was open to everyone he should vote for himself. @Graeme could you clear up this confusion. You either need to give yourself a vote or @ian or @Scott R could still win your precious vote. You probably already voted for them didn't you? And whenever someone says they're not here to make friends I drink an imaginary shot, so thanks, I've just had 2.

Now, what the hell? I don't think 1 vote for me is going to hinder the contest. Throw me a frickin' bone here, at least for the sake of Wit! haha

(I think Trixie just doesn't like me) :)

  3. Unfortunately, I am guilty of doing this. A client brought me a really nice line drawing of a cardinal. I was amazed that it was good enough to use without redrawing, and the client was very clear that they wanted it exactly like it was. (Which I was very busy that day, and bluntly, I didn't feel like fucking with it. lol. Long story short, it turned out to to be Mr. Ross Nagle's cardinal tattoo. Which was uploaded to LST before I realized what I had done. Talk about feeling like a tool! I would like to add that Mr. Nagle is my favorite traditional tattooers and absolutely meant NO disrespect.

  4. Great work this month!

On a side note, this has been on my mind since joining, by the way. I might be completely out of line here, but I gotten the impression that some people, and I am not gonna name names, nor can I think of a specific example, vote solely for the Name of the artist rather than the art itself.

I will just add that some one might post a tattoo of some "no name" artist that is better than one of our favorites.

Sadly, I think the votes would go to the tattooer that LSTers are familiar with.

Again, just a thought from the "Community Prick" aka me! lol

  5. TATTR

just go through a few pages of this tumblr. fucking terrible. some of them really aren't poorly done, but the concepts are just fucking stupid.

ok, this might sound like I'm a prick. (once again.)(the first time i was being a prick though, lol) Anyway, maybe, you should put this in a thread about tattoos that you don't care for. These examples you've given seem to be solid tattoos. I don't really care for the style, but as for the technical ability of these artist, I feel it is at the complete opposite end of the spectrum as the artists that were originally posted in this thread.

    Just a thought.

  6. This thread has bummed me out for awhile, not because of the tattoos but moreso because it isn't elevating tattooing. Its not educating. I don't think anyone would tell their friends/peers/etc about all the worst restaurants in the area if they wanted to answer the question of "what's you favorite place to eat". Nobody would post links to the worst web design or the crappiest album that they're not listening to...I guess I just don't get it. I'm not saying that I haven't fallen victim to it but I think everyone here is above the level of seeking out amatuer efforts for the purposes of entertainment.

I could perhaps, be suffering from the overwhelming negativity of political ads as well as the endless amount of "opinions" and "critisisms" that is the internet. If people put as much effort in doing the good and sharing positivity, we'd all be better people for it.

I might just be a prick, but are you putting one of these "elevate tattooing post" in the 'Random Pic Thread' or the 'Hipster Tattoo Thread"?

Some people like a laugh. plain and simple. If this thread bums you out so much, why are you reading it? Or Did you not even take the time to go through all the pages, found you fell sorry for the scratchers and then decided to knock the dust off the soap box.

So, maybe, you should realize that good AND BAD tattoos help educate. I wish some people knew that every "tattoo shop" they walked into, or every post on craigslist for a tattoo, wasn't gonna "Look like the one's on the TV".

Sorry to be a dick, I'm just following suite.

  7. Is that whip shading w/ a liner on that microphone? lmao
