Guerillaneedles reacted to HettyKet in Woman head in spider web design
The classic girl head / web images were surely inspired by the circus sideshow spider ladies? Here.  I don't know who drew the first flash though, or when. It's often not possible to track these things right back.
But, you can see ladies / cherubs (not sure which) on web, although not enclosed by it, on the feet and ankles of Stella Grassman. All her work was done by her husband Deafy. Photo is from the 1920s.

If you're after something a little less 'dark' than variations on the classic design  often are, and are wanting to add flowers too, you might want to consider something along the lines of this lovely by Virginia Elwood.  Ladyroses are a classic in themselves, of course, the combination of the two works really well, I think.

That said. I prefer to hand over a bit of reference and let my tattooer get on with the drawing, rather than give too much specific direction about composition though. Am not a fan of giving other tattooers work as reference, but I can see why you want to. Have you had your consultation yet?
Never had drawings in advance of the day myself either, BTW. He'd be happy to make changes if it wasn't 'right', for sure. Hasn't be necessary yet mind.

In other news, this, is image absolutely dying to be turned into a tattoo.

(from either Punch, or the London Charivari, November 1867)
Edit - Agree that it's not a stupid question, @jadore. Not at all.

I posted these in the new tattoos thread but here are my hands by Guen Douglas. They hurt like a bitch and I had a shitty heal (they need a few touch ups but neither of us are in a hurry!)  really happy I have them done. I've got full coverage on arms and most of legs but not torso - partly because this is where I want my biggest pieces - but to get my hands done was very symbolic of committing myself to tattooing. No going back to teaching for me! Plus I just feel more 'me'. Hard to explain but I reckon someone gets it.

I know I already posted this picture when I first got these done, but I figured I'd include a photo in the actual "Hand Tattoo" thread as well.
Here are my hands. Applied by Thomas Hooper.

fun spur of the moment tattoo from Jesse Calderon, 2nd year apprentice at Modern Times Tattoo in Spotswood, NJ. Young, talented, determined and super cool tattooer. Was also the first time that I was getting tattooed until 3am. Cross that off the bucket list ;)

Todd Noble did a Percy Waters girl for me and I took a really bad photo of it (sigh).  I love it, though.

I got this little one shot eagle yesterday at the Quebec City convention from Trevor McStay.

It wraps a lot because it takes up most of my thigh so here are a couple of pictures.

I've just been reminded of when is I'd just had my feet/ankles tattooed with beautiful birds and flowers and some guy walked past and said 'I thought you had mud on your legs' (they're actually super colourful). I just thought cheers mate, some pretty expensive mud!

It's scar tissue, but honestly I really had to look to see it and even then it's quite hard to spot. I wouldn't bother getting it touched up, especially since its been a while - the new ink will look more noticeable.

I've been busy recently! First up I got this really cute cat and umbrella from Wendy Pham at Brighton Tattoo convention. I've been after this piece of flash for years so happy he's now mine!
Next up (and also at Brighton), I got the side of my knee done by  Jody Dawber. This was the most painful tattoo I have ever got. I was whimpering like a baby (and I usually never make a fuss). I had to dig deep to get through it! Thank god she's fast.
And last but not least, my latest addition (again on the side of the knee) from my super talented co-worker Lucy O Connell. Had my eye on this babe for well over a year, so happy to finally give her a home.

Hello and welcome. Your idea sounds cool, but as an artist myself, I can guarantee your going to piss off a lot of those artists you mention by asking them to draw you an idea that got might not even get tattooed. My advice is to do your research extensively, talk to the artists - you might find some are more keen on your idea. I don't do realism but I've seen the stencils and they're sometimes incomprehensible to anyone but the artist whose using them! I guess what I'm getting at is that if you do your research you'll find someone you trust absolutely to do the job - and you won't need to waste the time of other artists whilst your at it.
