  1. Dude. Fuck palms. I will get my palms tattooed at some point, if nothing else than for the curiosity of how much it actually hurts. Watching people get their palms tattooed freaks me the fuck out though... Right now I have myself convinced that it is the worst pain a human being could possibly feel.

You convinced yourself right. It's on a whole different level, but its worth it for sure, just like any tattoo. hahaha

  2. I know what you mean. I use the leftover scraps for mini paintings that i sell for a couple of bucks at tattoo conventions or throw in care packages when i mail stuff out to other tattooers. I also use the 9"x12" blocks and mount that flash on an 11"x14" sheet of black [or whatever color you want] matte board, which fit nicely in the 11"x14" flash books or racks or whatever you may have.

  3. Yeah, that's what I've heard. I didn't attend last year, but heard the artist turnout was outrageous.

It tends to be feast or famine, man.

With SO many goddamned tattooers working....

I haven't been but here's something from Murray Sell's blog about his opinion of the 2011 convention...

Had an awesome time seeing all my friends this year.Stayed fairly busy too. Didn't have a good time dealing with 800 tattooers in 500 booths. Seem like the bigger these things get, the shittier they become. 45 minute lines, being searched like common criminals, getting hastled by security over pocket knives and tattooing under cameras is pretty fucking LAME .Bummer. In my opinion the shariton Hotel was a FAR better establishment to hold a convention in.Biker gangs and all. I Dont know if I'll return next year.Might just tattoo at Olde City tattoo instead.

I read that after last years post. Like I said in an earlier post, I've attended a few times [years ago] but never worked it. I'm excited because it was one of the first conventions I attended while I was apprenticing, [and I enjoy Philadelphia as a city] but nervous how the show is going to be because of posts like Murray's.

  4. Did anyone else catch that the latest tattoo that Tray "Big Daddy" Benham did on the new school challenge is prettttttttty damn close to the tattoo that contestant Jeremy Miller did last season, the piston...I didn't catch it, but the shop owner where I work did right away. . . Wondering if this is going to go un-noticed and/or why none of the judges caught this either.

  5. I'm fairly new to painting, 2 years or so, and I can tell the difference in paper. I use arches cold press, usually 140lb, and I can tell the difference whether its on the block or a sheet cut down to whatever size. I personally like the full sheets better. But again, maybe it's because of the materials I use, maybe they just work better on that kind of paper. I use tube watercolors and gauche, sometimes FWs and the Dr. martins concentrate watercolor.

I've been starting to get into lining stuff with brushes now, instead of sharpies, it is much more difficult than I imagined, but more satisfying....

Is it easier to brush line on illustration board, does anyone have any opinions/preferences? I've heard lately from a few people, it's easier to line on that with a brush, because it's not as coarse...

  6. If you guys don't follow him on instagram, Lal Hardy is posting up some serious tattoo history. It is pretty much everyday I get treated to at least a handful of pics from days past. Sidenote Freddy Corbin's posts are always entertaining!

  7. When Chris told me the lineup a few months ago, he mentioned the three that are on the announcement; so I'm thinking that's going to be it. But still... fucking DeVita.

I think the rights are for streaming only so there'll likely not be a proper dvd release.

Thats too bad, but thanks. I was always curious.

  8. I recently got my hand tattooed and tattooed that same day, and the following day as well. I did the same thing that everyone seems to be leaning toward. I used a paper towel as a barrier and took frequent breaks and washed and cleaned like it was no ones business. It definitely was kind of a pain to stop more often than I'm used to, but my tattooed healed fine, healed normal. Just keep it super clean and make sure you use some sort of barrier between your tattoo and your gloves, especially if you have powdered gloves.

  9. Hello. My name is Seth Campbell, a tattooer from Massachusetts. Although I'm familiar with this blog, and often watch [and re-watch] the interviews, I am a new registered member. Very excited to meet some new tattooers and hopefully pick up on some new knowledge. I'm sure I will get around to uploading a few photos, but please visit my website; Seth X Campbell : CC/T [ratc]

    Thanks!

    xxx
