wise words hogrider. i want to ask you about white ink. does it hurt more than black? i'm curious about average experience. thank you

White ink didn’t hurt me more than any other, but my skin is really pale and it looked like I hadn’t been tattooed at all. It was the kimono of my Japanese warrior and my artist wound up redoing it in pale green. No more white ink for me.

I was told it could be looked at as offensive to the Muslim community as the word God is used and I want to tank God one not insult anyone

The very fact that you have a tattoo will upset some people. Why are you worried about what other people think?

Also, laser treatments are not going to return your skin to the original condition. It very likely you’ll still be able to see it even after expensive, painful treatments.

First, almost no one will know what it says; second almost no one will care; third, you get tattoos for yourself, not for others. Enjoy your tattoo and relax.

Hey everyone, long time lurker here. Reading through this thread has always been really informative (and fear inducing) but now I'm midway through my own backpiece and figured I'd drop in a progress report. I'm getting it done by Jacob Redmond at Fourth Street Tattoo. We're roughly 20 hours in so far. The pain is no joke, but it was definitely front heavy with the linework. Shading overall has been bearable.

Next sessions should be a fun one, we'll be filling in that buttcrack and starting on the scales. 😬 The pressure is on to choose a color and I'm still waffling a lot. I love the classic look of black scales red belly, but something about this design says blue dragon to me. What do you all think?

Nice! I’d always go with the classic.

These commenters are morons. It’s CLEARLY a blowout you’ve got on your hands. Albeit a rather minor one, but clearly visible. How much it bothers you is your business but the reason it’s there in the first place is definitely on the artist and his lack of skill in working with delicate areas of the skin.
Morons blaming you and telling you not to get tattooed clearly don’t understand what they’re looking at.
You have every right to hold your artist accountable.

Great first post! The perfect way to ingratiate yourself with the community.

for those playing at home- I have decided on a sad eye cloud (cloud, eye in middle, raindrops) for the right elbow. Still trapesing through images for further inspiration for left arm through.

I’ve got both elbows done as part of my sleeves. I can tell you they hurt like hell. Fortunately it’s a small area. Thin skin right in bone!!!

I’m glad I had them done though.

Mumma, thank you for your answer!

Being an ass hole to the people who have been on this forum a long time is not a smart way to get advice. Frankly @Dan is right; if you’re worried about the pain, don’t get one. There’s no way to quantify the pain. I have other helpful hints for first timers.

    Hi,

I got a tattoo on the back of my arm 2 and a half weeks ago.

I've been extremely careful in aftercare, almost obsessively so, until....

Total brain fart 2 days ago. My daughter had a last minute swimming lesson and without even thinking I took her and spent over an hour submerged in the (probably) heavily chlorinated toddler pool.

Not long after I got home I felt the tattoo become slightly  itchy with red lumps appearing. I washed with tattoo wash and applied tat moisturiser diligently. The lumps seemed to fade but now 2 days later its crazy itchy and the red lumps appear more prominent, possibly more. I could chew my arm off now.

The area isn't hot or anything so not sure if infected. Just some lumps and extremely itchy.

Any idea how bad the chlorine messed with me and what the likely outcome is?

I'm sick with myself...I travelled far and paid a lot of money for this artist and stupidly dropped the ball at the pool.

    Thanks

I’m surprised there was a reaction 2 weeks after it was done. It’s unlikely that it’s infected, but if it becomes hot, painful or oozes see a doctor.

Also, forget tattoo wash and tattoo moisturizer. It’s just snake oil. A fragrance free soap and a little cocoa butter are all you need and probably a quarter of the price. You just need a little bit, over moisturizing can clog the pores and cause skin issues. Last, try a cold pack for the itching.

    Good luck.

    Hi there.

Just got a new tattoo and wanted to say hello and get inspiration. Also some advice…

The tattoo I just got is exactly the style I wanted - no shading or colour, simple and elegant. Type kerned nicely with old style figures. I really like it but had a couple of comments online saying ‘they’d be fuming with the inking’

It’s only a couple of days old so not healed, butI’m puzzled… does anything look drastically wrong in your expert opinions? Like it’s not dreadful is it?

    thanks

There's always someone out there who can't wait to piss on your parade and ruin it. As @Dan said, they probably have crap tattoos themselves.

I've completed a full leg of traditional. Have been debating going with black and gray on my upper body. The place where I get stuck is, I only find that I prefer traditional chest pieces. Most keen to the done 10000Xs eagle. I know the common response of, do what you want and don't worry about anyone else, but is there some things that are over done to where it becomes cliché?  Like a lion with clock eye???

    Ref of what im thinking.

They are classics for a reason. Just my opinion, but an American Traditional tattoo of an iconic image, if well done, never becomes a cliché.

If you have ever worked as a tattoo artist, piercer, or any type of skin artist it's extremely important you contact the HubSpot corporation, and Certified Tattoo Studio, a HubSpot customer.

Modern Driven Media's (a HubSpot partner) CEO Shana Steigerwalt, was hired by the owner of CertifedTattooStudio, Nando Mondragon, to collect the personal data of everyone that could be found by hacker's on the black market. Ms. Steigerwalt bought the data from hackers, with the number of individuals' data collected totaling more than one million people globally.

You on this board almost certainly all had your data purchased illegally from hackers on the black market. CTS would pay MDM for this service, in violation of numerous state and federal laws, then would launder the money through their business accounts in violation of federal money laundering laws.

HubSpot, and CTS, are required by law to inform you if they are storing your data, and how they got your data (in this case through multiple felonies). You have a claim (can file suit) against MDM, CTS, and the owners of both companies.

If you discover your data was illegally collected and being housed by CTS, you should contact your local district attorney and a private attorney immediately. Numerous states have their own state statutes regarding data privacy and detail additional state level legal action you can take as a victim, and you are a victim of a crime.

Numerous investigations are currently underway, but can take time to prosecute. In the meantime contact HubSpot and demand Modern Driven Media immediately be banned from the software platform for violating their contact, the law and your rights.

The tattoo industry was intentionally targeted during this criminal enterprise that spanned most of 2022. Regardless if your data, your rights, were violated, contact HubSpot and express your outrage at one of their partners intentionally targeting your industry as a victim. Demand MDM be immediately banned.

NO !!!!!!!!!!  that's not an option, if you just change your mind !?!??!?  LOL if you really knew anything about laser treatment, you would know it's a very long painful expensive process that doesn't get rid of the tattoo completly.

Their first and only post. I’m just surprised that there wasn’t a link to some shitty website. I guess that will come in post number two.

@oboogieim based in chicago, so lots of options around here. Most of my work was done at Speakeasy Custom by people who have been tattooing for a while. I’m curious what you think of the shop or if you have recommendations of other places.

I didn't look at all of the tattooers and all of their tattoos, but overall I wasn't that impressed. Lots of one dimensional, flat work. Also, I wouldn't get hung up on how long someone has been tattooing. The guy that did my wife's tattoo had only been tattooing for 3 years and he absolutely killed it. 10 years later, it still looks fresh.

I'd seriously suggest watching Ink Masters. Skip to the end of each show where they do the critiques and you'll miss all the silly made up drama. The judges critique each tattoo and tell what's good and bad about it. There are plenty of shitty tattooers on that show and a lot of them have been tattooing for a long time. It's just a place to start. I'd go to tattoo conventions where you'll see everything from absolute crap to outstanding work. Look at Tattoo magazines. Educate yourself before you get more tattoos.

Can I ask why you think that? They’ve all been done at reputable places with artists I’ve vetted before hand. I know what I think matters the most, and I like them, but I don’t understand why you think they’re ‘crap’

Here are some better photos of them fresh, I don’t know if that makes any difference. I guess it’s just a little disheartening to hear.

The artwork is not very good; the lines aren’t consistent, some look really heavy, some are wobbly; some of the color isn’t saturated; the lettering is uneven; overall they look very flat and one dimensional. I don’t agree that they are “scratcher” tattoos at all, I’m just recommending that you learn to evaluate Tattooers and find some better artists. I’m not sure how you vetted these artists, but if their work looked like this and you thought it was good, you really need to learn how to properly vet an artist.
