I wouldn't even say he went too hard, I genuinely believe my skin hadn't fully healed from the previous tattoo even though I waited 4 months.
F***ing sucks. I don't even know if it's plausible to get it touched up by someone else (probably with different ink), and taking it safe and waiting a year post superficial healing, I'm certain it'll look like a shitty whole different patch shade of black. Absolutely fuming. How much would you guess I paid for this? 🙃
Not to be argumentative, but four months should be enough time to heal and just looking at that skin tells me it's overworked. You really just need to wait and see how it looks. I had one of my sleeves extended about an inch and initially, there were two shades of black ink, but eventually you couldn't tell the difference.
Can't imagine how much you paid. It doesn't matter how good an artist is, everyone screws up once in a while. The only thing that matters is how good they did YOUR tattoo.

Artist just told me I "probably didn't wash it good enough in that area, hence it created a thicker crust because more plasma accumulated"
I honestly feel it's bullshit.. I washed and treated it all the same. Everyday it gets crustier. Still tons of plasma leaking from crust fissures. Extremely bummed out.
I replied to your previous comment but forgot to quote so not sure you saw it. New to this forum format.
Your artist is full of sh!t. That’s just insulting and that would be the end of any relationship with me. It looks like he worked the sh!t out of it and now isn’t man enough to admit it so he’s blaming you. That’s just weak.
Good luck, just take care of it, give it a couple of months. I’ve seen some pretty rough things wind up healing OK.

How old was the original tattoo when you covered it?
I haven't ever had a coverup, but I've never had a tattoo that looked that rough. HOWEVER, as @SStu said, give it some time. It takes 4-6 week to heal, longer if it went in rough. You shouldn't be doing coverups or anything else to a tattoo until it's completely healed.

My only other thought is the vertical line has definite edges. Don't blowouts look like the ink is bleeding from the edges?
I’m not sure what you are trying to say. It’s a blowout, there’s no fixing a blowout, and I don’t mean this unkindly, but this is why you do your homework BEFORE you get a tattoo. You would have known that small delicate lines on thin skin are prone to blowouts.

Same here, @Hogrider. I trust my artist, and both of my sleeves were designed by him with pretty much no input from me.
Yup. No one told Leonardo da Vinci to paint the Mona Lisa. "Hey Leo, can you paint a picture of my girlfriend, maybe some scenery in the background. maybe have her hands crossed, no smile, but not frowning. I need to see a sketch of it before you start."

Seems you like the Japanese style. I’d go with a dragon or koi dragon, some flowers, water and call it a day. Actually, that’s just what I did per my artist’s suggestion. I told him I was open to anything in the Japanese style and just sat back and let him work. My first sleeve I didn’t give any input at all.

I definitely won't be doing anything quickly, just chat to a couple of places to get an idea and let myself go away and think about it. If the cover up would have to go too big, I'm honestly considering laser.
I just really don't think I'm the kind of person who can learn to love this. It needed to be what I wanted before it went on. I feel like I went to the wrong artist.
I hope you have the patience to wait. I’ve seen people swept up in the moment by enthusiastic tattoo artists. Also, be sure you are realistic about laser expectations. It can lighten a tattoo, but I’ve never seen one actually removed. Your tattoo creates scar tissue, laser creates more scar tissue. I’m not saying don’t do it, but if you think it’s going to disappear, you’ll be really disappointed.
You have a nice tattoo. Better to have a nice tattoo that you don’t like than a sh!tty tattoo you hate and be looking for coverup #2. Remember, each time you go in for laser or coverup you’re creating more scar tissue, making the next time harder.

First, sorry it didn’t work out as planned. Second, don’t do anything until you’ve lived with it for a while. I’ve seen plenty of cover ups that wound up worse because people were in such a hurry to “fix” them. At the very least you need it to let it completely heal before you start to monkey with it. Patience is your friend.
Plenty of people have come to love a tattoo that they initially didn’t like.

How long do tattoo markers last boils down to the type of ink, application, and aftercare. For temporary tattoos fitted for occasions, Bodymark by BIC and Skin Companion is your best bet.
Nobody wants your shitty product.

If you have doubts about the world of tattooing, I recommend that you take a look at alkimia.es , they are great experts in this sector and they can surely help you a lot to solve all your doubts.

Tattoos take 4-6 weeks to heal. There is nothing you can or should do until they heal. Enjoy your tattoo, you'll know in a few weeks if it needs a touch up. Anyone who tries to predict how a tattoo will heal is usually more Nostradumbass than Nostradamus.

Oh, my god. Yes, please. It's the exact same question over and over and over and over and over.
They probably still won't read the pinned thread, but it's worth a shot.
True, but we can point them to it and ask them to read it before they ask further questions. I'm not trying to stifle traffic, I'm just trying to create a forum where the same questions aren't asked three times a week.

Newbies mostly, come on all the time asking if something is infected. It's true, we aren't doctors, and even if we were, we shouldn't be dispensing medical advice over the internet, BUT some of us have been around long enough to know what to look for. If it's not hot, oozing, smelling, extremely painful, it's not likely to be an infection. That's just a fact. I'd be the last one to discourage someone from seeking medical advice if they were concerned, but there are indicators.
Same with healing - people come on all the time, "I've had this tattoo for two days, will it heal right?"
Same with blowouts - "How do I fix a blowout?"
Same with reactions/allergies - "My tattoo itches, am I allergic to the ink?"
There are probably some others that I'm not thinking about. Just food for thought.
And for Christ's sake, don't come on the forum asking for advice and then start arguing! If you already know the answer, what are you asking for? And if you don't know the answer, why are you arguing with my answer?

Yeah dude, I’m letting it heal. But my dermatologist just got back with me this morning after we took a patch test of the site and it did in fact come back of me having an allergic reaction along with a mild surface infection. Topical steroids were given along with finishing my oral antibiotics. I know it was heavy handed, heck even the dermatologist said so, but I knew something else was wrong when it since it was super hot and had pus and was growing larger. So forgive me for not thinking it was just the end of a heavy hand and knowing it had to be something else as well. I understand your concerns of wanting to drill into me that it was strictly an artist chewing the shit out of my arm and I definitely won’t be going back there, and thanks to everyone who has responded with their input.
Marie - This is the first time you've posted that. I can't speak for anyone else, but I was addressing your original post, "There isn’t any redness really and it’s not hot, but it is tender in those specific areas." Which is quite different than super hot, has pus and is growing larger.
Anyway, I hope it heals nicely.

Damn guys, leave the woman alone. She has a concern about a permanent piece of work on her arm, she has a right to be concerned. Neither of you guys are doctors of any sort, so technically, you have no idea if its a allergic reaction, infection, etc…the lady says its both, diagnosed by a medical doctor, so it’s an infection. I’m having the same sort of situation with a 6 day old piece of mine, and yes, I have questions. Sue her good lord leave her alone.
She’s asking opinions and we’re providing them. I don’t need to be a doctor to know the symptoms of an infection and she doesn’t have them. As to allergies, if you look at the medical literature, the number of actual documented allergies is tiny. The chances that this is an allergy is close to zero. What many of us with years of experience getting tattoos have seen is tattoos like this caused by someone tattooing like they were using a jackhammer.
When the most likely explanation covers all of your symptoms, it’s probably the correct one.
Last, YOU don’t set the rules here. If you want to be the big cheese, start your own forum.
Tattoo newbie here, already so upset with myself

Nobody is saying you're stupid and nobody is happy that you're not happy. Take a deep breath and calm down. We're offering advice so it doesn't happen again. Very few people are happy with every single tattoo they have. As the saying goes, "sh!t happens." If someone is offering advice you don't want, just ignore it.
And please stop beating yourself up. The only thing you are guilty of is being human.
