  1. I think you should do whatever your artist suggests. That's what I've always done, and save for an allergic reaction (resulting in a horrible infection) to a particular blue, they've always healed beautifully. To each their own.
  2. I stood up after my tattoo guy finished my half sleeve on my left arm, and I very nearly passed out. Felt very dizzy. I had been sick and on lots of medication, though. More to do with that than the pain, I'm quite sure.
  3. @Vivian, I think that was the right thing to do. Any reputable artist would be able to find a local shop to work in. Tattooing in some rando dude's apartment is just unprofessional.
  4. Yeah, no. Don't do that. Sounds shady and unsanitary.
  5. I got my Prince tattoo on the day he died. Been a fan since I was 12.
  6. No offense, but I'd never get a tattoo without knowing what it meant. - - - Updated - - - For the record, I don't think all tattoos have to be imbued with meaning. But I would want to know what it meant before I got it tattooed on me forever.
  7. Richard Stell, this Friday at the Oklahoma Tattoo Convention.
  8. Good for you for doing something for yourself. I'm sorry you've had a difficult time recently. I look forward to seeing the tattoo when you take your bandage off. I got my first tattoo when I was 25 or 26 after giving it zero thought. I covered it with something I did want just before I turned 40, and I haven't stopped getting tattoos since! :-)
  9. @JBluewind How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? Also, if you are going to recommend him (which is very nice), you might want to get his name, not just the shop name. :-)
  10. Yes, exactly. I spent ages talking to Richard Stell. So funny, so smart, so many great stories to share. He's a rock star. His wife Jennifer is, too. I feel privileged to sit and chat with them.
  11. Agree completely, marley mission. I talk about music, films, politics (because we're of the same ilk politically), religion, books, whatever. But I don't ask a zillion questions. I find the whole experience pleasurable. I don't care what needle he's using. He knows what he's doing, and that's all that matters.
  12. My tattoo guy gives me an estimate and always ends up charging me less. So he gets a bigger tip. :-) I just can't imagine trying to haggle him down. My philosophy: If you can't afford to pay what he quotes, then you shouldn't be getting a tattoo. This is what they do for a living. I can't imagine someone trying to haggle down my price for my proofreading services.
  13. LOVE this. Really cool! I love monkeys, apes, gorillas, and orangutans. I have two monkey tattoos.
  14. That seems super slow for that simple design, but I'm so glad you're happy with it. And please don't haggle with your artist. Eeeeek.
  15. Dude. This is a really old thread.
  16. Looks really great! Glad you are so happy with it so far.
  17. He's been tattooing a very long time, but he used to be down in Texas. He taught Oliver Peck how to tattoo, and he has appeared on a couple of Ink Master episodes.
  18. I popped in to see my artist Josh last night, and I got this. I've loved Prince since I was a kid, so it seemed appropriate. #musicnerd

  20. I love John Lennon, and he sometimes used the name Dr. Winston O'Boogie.
  21. Not a big fan of scratchers. Do it properly or not at all.
  22. I live in the hot and humid south. Gets up to 115 some summer days. AND HOLY HUMID. It's sticky and gross. Hahaha.
