  1. it's been one of my favorite sites for a long time and it has really grown over the past couple years. i like too that most of the people who upload the shows, give you the source and method in which they recorded it so that you can usually tell what is going to have the best sound. not sure if anyone likes the band low but there are a couple early shows of theirs on there that are great. the other parts of the site for old 78's and the movies and texts are great as well. oh and of course, this has kept me from having to replace all of my old time radio stuff i had on tape. glad i could let ya'll know about it

  2. JAllen, i'm jealous you got to see Fugazi. that's my only show regret. any good shows coming up that you'll be going to?

nothing anytime soon, i'm currently trying to do repairs on my house so i can sell it and move back to atlanta. so that's taking all my time and money at the moment. i would like to see explosions in the sky though, let us know how the show goes.

  3. i saw fugazi in 95 with lungfish opening for them. they always played 2 shows when they came to atlanta and they always sold out almost immediately, i went to both shows and was blown away.

i also saw the agent orange reunion that was in 93 i think at the somber reptile in atlanta in which the drummer and bass player got into a fist fight halfway through their set.

i think too that the reverend horton heat has always put on a killer show, i've seen them probably 20 times and they always play relentlessly and usually over half the crowd is gone before they are ever done playing.

i got to see junior brown twice the same year, once at the county fair here in ohio and then a friend of a friend had hired him for their wedding reception. both really good shows and unusual settings.

also, got to see slim cessna's auto club in a tiny bar in indianapolis a couple years back and was completely amazed at how incredible they are live. this was probably the smallest venue i had ever seen music in as well and they absolutely tore the place down.

that's just a few of the best ones, i'm hoping once i move back down south that i'll get the chance to see more shows since no one ever comes through dayton.

  4. by middle school i had a mustache and i grew my first beard in high school. the last time i let it really grow out was about a year ago, here's a pic just before i cut it all off. it was around 5-6 months of growth.

  5. I can see what Mario is saying about tattoo snobs with an attitude towards other clients, but I don't quite get why the term "collector" is so annoying. I refer to my tattoos as my collection, so doesn't that make me a collector? Is "enthusiast" a better term?

I would never put myself above anyone, especially if they're getting work done from a respectable artist, regardless of the design they may choose. To each his own.

Can the term "work" also be perceived as offensive? If so I might already have offended a few members here with my picture comments.

Hopefully I'll be travelling to the US soon to get some work (see, I did it again) by some of the amazingly talented artists that you have over there. I would hate to make a bad first impression by blurting out something that an artist would interpret as ignorant or offensive. I'm certainly not going to say "whatup tat-wizard, fire up yo gun and shoot that ink on my squid slacks", but "love your work" is something that I imagine that I could have said without thinking twice.

youve probably got a cool norse accent which would make it possible to pull off even some of the typical annoying slang. haha

i had a friend from england visit that said he wanted to get colored in, which sounded cool coming from him.

  6. Thanks for joining our tattoo forum. Did you see the various tattoo history threads on here from The Pike, Chicago, Scotland, and more? So impressive.

i've been looking through them as i get time to be online, good stuff indeed. thanks for having me!

  7. i'm currently tattooing in dayton, ohio. i spend most of my time drawing, listening to music, and being a father to my beautiful daughter. i enjoy old tattoos and tattoo history. also, i don't use the shift key

  8. what are your thoughts on the use of slang and terms that folks use to try and make tattooing sound cool? as an example i don't like the use of the terms tat, tats, or tatted up. i think that the word tattoo is cool enough and has always had a certain power to it. there's not really a need to attempt to make it sound cooler or clever by shortening it or adding z's instead of s's. i don't like gun for a tattoo machine either, but do find it amusing when people use it and sometimes i'll say "do you mean a tat gat?"

so are there terms that you do or don't like as well as does it give you an idea of the type of person you're talking to when you hear them use certain slang?

  9. i've noticed it tends to be more related to where my head is at when i'm getting the tattoo. when i got the right side of my neck done i sort of went into it not thinking it wouldn't be all that bad since i've tattooed peoples necks and then always seem to do really well with it. i never got comfortable during the tattoo and felt a chill every time he would stop a line because it was pretty warm and i had a fan blowing on me the whole time. the other side of my neck wasn't bad at all and took a bit longer but i had sort of mentally prepared myself for it if that makes sense. the back of my leg was also the only other tattoo that i couldn't get my mind right during it. really i tend to enjoy the way all the tattoos have felt but i can zone out and focus on my breathing and when the occasional spot feels more intense it is almost funny at times.

when this question is ever posed by customers, i tell them to get it where they want it because it's going to hurt wherever they get it and in the end they don't want to be disappointed by getting something in a spot just because they thought it would hurt less.
