My husband has no tattoos, just because he doesn't really know what to get or cares enough to put the effort into finding an artist and booking an appointment. He is alright with mine, he probably wishes I wasn't so obsessed with getting more, but I wish he wasn't so obsessed with MMOs and we can't always get what we want :P
My husband appreciates the fact that I research artists and pay for good work, I don't think he'd like my tattoos that much if they weren't good. I'm hoping one day he does decide to pull the trigger and get a tattoo, he has a couple of good "if I did get one, it might be this" ideas.

I love incense. But not when I'm getting tattooed. "Hey, here's an open wound! Let's put some smoke and shit into it!" Yeah. No, thank you. Hahaha.

I've just remembered something a (tattoo hating) friend said to me once:
Her "have you still got that tattoo on your leg?"
Me: "no, it fell off; can you believe that?"

My advice: save your money. Move. Get more tattoos, in that order.

A few that I've dealt with:

    1) "Does it hurt?" Not as much as when I watched friends bored in the shop tattoo each other's toes.
    2) People poking my tattoos.  Seriously, fucking stop.  I just met you and I'm not poking you.  Don't poke me.  Usually, I just poke them back in the same place. It gets weird.
    3) "What does your mother think?" She loves them and thinks I'm wonderful.
    4) "What about when you get old?" I'll be more badass looking than you with the rest of the badasses in the old folks home.
    5) "You can't get a good job with that" I'm a web developer (and decently well known in my niche).  Nobody gives a shit what I look like, and most never see me.  They also make these shirts with sleeves that go to your wrist.  They're called long sleeved shirts.  Pretty cool, eh?
Just to name a few.  I'm sure many of you get the same.  Also, the strange looks when you do general things like hold the door open for people; like tattoos immediately mean I'm an asshole.

At the gym getting ready after my workout. I'm putting on my makeup in my jeans and bra. This lady rolls in with her 6 year old daughter. This little girl looks at my tattoos and says directly to me "Mommy says tattoos are stupid and so are the people who get them."
I gently kneel in front of her and say "Your Mommy is closed minded and judgmental. You should always try to be kind to people and not jump to conclusions about people you don't know." Lady is horrified. Grabs child and leaves. Kid loved it..she smiled and waved goodbye to me.

Sorry you are going through all this with your Dad. Unfortunately, many people let their own prejudices, likes and dislikes get in the way of meaningful discussions and relationships.
What I love about what you write is that you are obviously happy and confident with who you are. Lots of people never get to that point. Never lose that. People who are true friends and who love you won't impose their own beliefs on you - they may not agree with you but they accept that you have the same right to your beliefs as they.
As a (as of today) 61 year old, and president of a small college, I get lots of my staff, faculty and students wanting to know if my tattoo is real or not. They want to see it to be convinced. The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. I was at an event last evening out in the community and I had several people asking, again, if I really did it or if it was fake. Too funny. My wife just rolls her eyes and smiles.

I went all out and got a full sleeve as my first tattoo. I knew I was going to go all the way to my wrist eventually, I had the money, and the results turned out better because of it!

ilysespieces got a reaction from Devious6 in Dropping the Bomb, how your parents found out about your first tattoo!
My parents still don't know about my first tattoo. I got it with my best friend on a whim one night when we were 19 and it's on my hip so there's no chance of anyone seeing it unless I actively want them to see it. It's terrible, blown out lines and the artist didn't listen to what I wanted, just yesed us to death and then did whatever he wanted, so I'm glad it's completely hidden. They think the next tattoo I got after I'd already moved out was my first and I may keep it that way if only to avoid having to show them my embarrassingly terrible first tattoo.

My [Jewish] parents always said "once you move out and pay your own bills, do what you want, but not under our roof", so I moved out in June and got my "first" tattoo in October that same year.

Why thank you! The apple was my first visible tattoo and when my grandma finally saw it she said "That's so spooky! Why did you get something so spooky?!" which I thought was the best reaction. Especially now that there's a little ladybug hanging around the apple it makes it less spooky at least :P
I'm hoping my next one is even more cheerful, gonna go back to an artist for the first time ever and I know she'll knock it out of the park.

Well then, obviously I must oblige. The heart is what I just had done Sunday. Sadly, I'm a bleeder, so fresh pictures rarely come out instagram-worthy. Hopefully my attachments worked, I'm used to embedding pictures with html on forums, so please let me know if I should do something differently next time. I have a few other tattoos, but these are the ones I have pictures for right now.

when people come here and ask for comments on my new first tattoo, what do they expect ? we are all adults here, this isn't a "Hallmark" forum,
if it's a crappy tattoo, should we lie to sugar coat it so people feel better ?  NO !  IMO
    .
"It's too late to change anything, why are you gonna make someone feel bad?"
nobody here is trying to make anyone feel bad about their tattoo,if it's a crappy design or applied badly,as hard as that is to hear, the biggest thing is hopefully we can help people get a better tattoo on their next tattoo.

    it's that simple,
and yes,our types of replies will vary just as us humans are all different.
there are rules in place here and most people adhere to them pretty well.the moderators do a pretty good job here.compared to many online discussion forums this place stays very civil and friendly.

Totally! This is my Tali, she's hanging out with my little grey kitty, also named Tali. I also attached a picture of my other arm, the poison apple from Snow White. Since I took that picture I've added slightly to it, now there's a little pink lady bug underneath the apple, my best friend of ~18 years and I got matching ladybugs.

Are you just going to keep asking until you get the answer you want or do you want the truth? The truth is that you are more likely to fuck it up worse than fix it.

Stay away from tattoos until your OCD is cured. If you look hard enough and long enough, you'll find a mistake in every tattoo.

Maybe consider "fixing" the obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) instead of "fixing" the misplaced dot on the tattoo?

Hello all, I recently found this forum when searching for some Tegarderm anecdotes/experiences and I really like the community and the kinds of things posted, so I've decided to stick around. I just got my most recent tattoo this past Sunday and I'm already itching for my next one. I have a handful of tattoos, all full color, some different styles and I mainly stick to one and done pieces so there's not all that much cohesion but I like them and they're well done so haters gonna hate :P
I'm excited to participate in threads and share some of my tattoos and see what y'all think.

I haven't been tattooing very long, so I feel awkward replying to shit like this. But here goes.
I like the act of tattooing. I love watching pigment go in the skin, seeing the line as it's being pulled across the stencil. I love it. So when I get requests for annoying shit, or things I'm sick of,(and denying that you ever get sick of shit is fucking retarded. We're humans. We get sick of shit. Period.), I try to just get past it in my head and think about the application. Not that I'm applying a tattoo that I hate, but that I'm applying a tattoo at all. And get right back into that mindset of enjoying the work aspect of it.
Without trying to sound like a wagon jumper, I too like tribal. I love watchign the black just go in solid as fuck. I know this dude is just some dude looking to look just like his boys, but in my head I'm thinking, "man, this shit is going to make your buddies tribal look like shiiiiiiiiiiiiit!". I just try to get in that zone as much as I can.
    The clients though....
None of us can control the chaos that is our client base. That is the unknown quantity part of the job. Lots of shitheads, and lots of people who don't actullay want tattoos. They just want their very own "me too, guys! I did it too! See!" story. They spend hours trying to find the least tattoo-ish, most benign design possible and stick it somewhere no one will ever see it, because to them it's just proof that they did it too when the stories start flying.
I try very hard to pick my battles, read clients and choose which ones would be receptive to some swaying. Not into something completely different to stroke my ego, but into a better planned out version of what they want. Just gotta pick the battles.
Can't do it with everyone or you burn out, and you can't responsibly be the guy who says "fuck it, I know this will look, age and heal like crap, but i'll take your cash." All the time banging rainbows up their ass telling them how good of an idea it is to keep them and their dumb friends coming back for more.
Regardless of how it will effect responsible tattooers who try to do a good, well thought out tattoo for the benefit of their clients. Just gotta do what I can to sleep at night, like trying to explain to people that upside down is upside down. I try. If they get it, awesome. If not, I'll at least try to do it clean.
Sorry for the ramble. I just felt it on this one. I felt that I need to make an ass of myself on the internet. Word.
