Horitomo posted a pic on instagram of the progress on my front. This is my right thigh.
It doesn't matter how many cats he does. Every time I see one i'm amazed haha.

Just got this bake neko started today by Josh Damnit at Classic Tattoo in Upland, CA.
I am dead!

So i'm starting my torso piece pretty soon and I was curious as to how everyone else got their stencil put on. Me and my artist were talking and the only reasonable thing we could think of to do it was to put a sock over my junk and maybe a towel because it goes down onto my thighs so a fundoshi won't work for the original outline. I just found this really funny and wondered if anyone did anything similar.

I'm not sure if this will help. It's more of a broad cat reference but I believe these books may have a couple bakeneko or nekomata references. Unfortunately the 1st is temporarily out of stock and the second is in Japanese I believe. The latter one had a cool print of a otokodate or samurai fighting a giant bakeneko or nekomata, if it's the same book I think it is.
Horitomo actually did a really nice nekomata on Grime. It was sitting with a knife in it's mouth. It was posted on Horitomo's or Grime's or Sword & Skull's IG site. I can't remember exactly. I think it's in the monmon book too.

Thanks for the references =]. I actually saw that cat he did on Grime. He text a picture of it to the dude who was tattooing me right after he got it. I really liked that tattoo.

I've been looking for awhile for some good bakeneko designs and cannot seem to find any good references. Does anyone have a book or site for good designs that they could direct me to? I know Horitomo has a lot of really cool cats but from what I've seen none of them were really "bakeneko". I plan on getting a tattoo of one soon and would like to see some better pictures then what google has provided me. I'd like to do it with a really elaborate kimono and then have some severed heads with it. I was hoping to find an old Japanese folklore book with pictures but have so far been unsuccessful.

Further proof that it's different for everyone. I don't see pics of your knee ditches. What did you get? I got this moth smack dab in the middle of my ditch.
That moth's rad man! I just got one myself 3 weeks ago as well. It's kind of a 2 part piece because it wraps around. I don't think I posted a pic of my moth yet either so i'll include it as well lol.

NO. I have both kneecaps done and I got my knee ditch done two weeks ago today. It still has scabs, and hurt way longer than my kneecaps. At least stairs were navigable with my kneecaps.
How weird... I did a 40 mile bike ride the day after I got my knee ditch done and it didn't even bother me. It had a fair amount of work done on it too not like spiderwebs or anything that would be easy. Guess I got lucky on that one haha.
-
Did anyone else have a worse time on the kneecap then the ditch of the knee? I was practically chair ridden for 2 days after I got my knee done haha. Sometime's i'd go to get up and just fall because my knee gave out it was a real fun time. I hardly even noticed the back of the knee and had no problems walking.
-
Now let's see the rest of you in your fundoshis! If you don't have any laying around, all you need is an old bedsheet and a pair of scissors, and voila.
This is from when I first got my back done. I got mine at a cloth store. I don't think that's they intended that 8ft piece of wool fabric for but it worked well :p

I thought I was done with my Rock of Ages back piece but I got asked to do some more work on it and already started a session last week. The mindset of "well at least I don't have to do that again" turned out to be very wrong haha. It's bringing back all the bad memories :p
-
Medicine and a meal before, a 6 pack that I split with the guy during, and afterwards a monster rehab green tea and another meal because it's been a few hours and getting tattooed works up an appetite! Also a hot shower and a few more beers later on that evening are pretty much guaranteed haha.
-
I got the side of my knee tattooed a week ago and had to run the day after. 2 days later I did a 52 mile bike ride and it healed ok. It scabbed up a bit more and in one area it'll need a touch up. It's not a big deal though i've had spots heal up worse with no activity.

Here's a link to the video Stoney Knows How
FolkStreams » Stoney Knows How
It's primarily Stoney but has Ed Hardly in it and he gets a tatoo. Great video nonetheless.

I've tried a few different methods and so far I use 2 depending on the area. My first for non ditch areas is to let it dry heal for 2 days while taking super hot showers 3x a day at least. After the 2 days are up I apply aquaphor every few hours and usually heal within a week. If it's in a ditch area I keep that shit wrapped up for 3 days with Aquaphor and plastic wrap while taking a minimum of 3 hot showers a day. It keeps it from getting real crusty and is less painful from my experience.
-
I'm completely lost here. I in vision myself with full sleeves and full neck to knee back piece. I already have plans to be tattooed by other artist. Is this what I have to endure, do I need to stock up on some HUSH and vicodine or what?????
Do what you gotta do to get through it man no judgement...shit hurts sometimes. I was just talking with my buddy yesterday while he was tattooing me about rotary machines and he said the guy he used it on healed in like 3 days and said it was less painful. I proceeded to ask why the fuck he wasn't using it on me then haha.

Recommendations for Portrait Artist in Los Angeles
in General Tattoo Discussion
Posted
I've got a buddy that is looking to get a portrait of his one month old daughter that sadly passed away due to SIDS. Can anyone recommend an artist in Los Angeles County that specializes in portraits? He is looking for mainly black and grey, but with some color. Under $300/hr would be ideal.
