Yep, I'd think that $$$ has a lot to do with it.  If you're an average working stiff it takes time and self control to save up the money for a large piece.  Sure you can spread it out over time, but who wants to look at an incomplete tattoo for 5 years?  At least with assembling small ones you can enjoy each one as it's finished.
Instant gratification and all.

Ended up going with a mandala over the knee.  Did the skin rip along the bottom because my other piece came up too high to allow for the full circle. 

Screw what people think about your tattoos. That's one of the biggest reasons that I started getting tattooed, I put up my entire life listening to people judge me and I decided that I was done with.  Accept me tattoos and all or go F yourself.

It looks fine as is, don't worry about it.  Every tattoo deforms as the skin moves, not much you can do about it.  I think artists do what they can to compensate for it, but you can't make it perfect in every position.
Enjoy it and start planning your next one.

Jesus I got the other day. Was a much needed session with all the craziness going on. Glad shops are opening back up!🤘

I understand what you're saying about being shy and starting here isn't a bad idea, but you're going to have to talk to artists (def. more than one).  You'll have to pick someone with past experience and doesn't just sugar coat things to get the work.  If you don't you'll just end up with an even bigger mess.

Probably 10 to 15 hours, but there's so many different things that can affect it.  Best to find an artist who's work you like and has a good reputation, go for a consult and go with their estimate.  Don't price shop.  It's tacky and never results in the best quality tattoo.

My Names Justin. New to the site. Looking to get my first tattoo and hopefully more. Just patiently waiting for covid to end sooner rather than later. Hope all is safe from it.

Hey everyone! I’m new on here (obviously) and looking to meet some people, talk tattoos, and ask for some advice.
 
I have one tattoo already and have been playing around with 2 other ideas. Hoping to get one of them after this lockdown stuff is over with and I figure out where I’m going to live.
 
I’m starting with just lurking around the forum and seeing what I can find. But I’m sure I’ll be asking some advice soon.

Actually  - while none of us is getting tattooed - how about a pic of your favourite that you have had inked  (or favourites that you have had inked) and a link to Instagram for the artist  (or artists) what do you reckon?🙂

Many of the artists should be checking with hospitals and health departments. These are looking for people with experience in sterile practice.
