  1. Congrats on the new tattoo. Give yourself a few months to adjust to it, it's pretty common, especially with your first large tattoo. Can you post a pic so we can see what you're working with?

  2. Not sure if this belongs here or in the WTF In the News but has anyone seen this article about a study of people with tattoos that has been trending on LinkedIn the last couple of weeks?

    https://www.hcamag.com/au/news/general/reckless-or-creative-the-great-tattoo-debate/177257

The gist of it is that they concluded people with tattoos are more likely to act in haste and not think of the consequences of their actions. I argued that just like someones race, religion, or sexual preference doesn't determine your personality, neither does presence of tattoos on your skin. And also that it could of easily been framed to show the exact opposite based on the researchers bias (that people with tattoos are more decisive and more willing to live with the consequences of their actions).

I was encouraged to see that 90% or more of the engagement was bashing the study and agreeing that having tattoos doesn't make someone a better or worse candidate for hiring but of course there were a vocal few supporting the study.

Just curious if anyone here has seen the article going around, what your thoughts on it are and if you feel like you've been passed over on a job you qualified for because of your tattoos?

  3. I am a little late to this topic but reading it reminded me of an old parable about a young kitten running around in the jungle that eventually comes across a bobcat and because it is bigger and faster than him it assumes it must be a lion. It starts mimicking the bobcat and eventually thinks it is the king of the jungle. Some time later it comes across a male lion and realizes how far he still has to go if he wants to be king of the jungle.

I've thought about a similar concept in a tattoo and I always visualize a lion looking at its reflection in a pond but the reflection is a regular cat or maybe an aggressive looking shark getting swallowed by a whale. Something to remind you that there is always something bigger, badder, faster or smarter than you.

    Happy New Year!

Let's see...Tomo, Dan Sinnes, Paul Dobleman, Robert Ryan, DJ Rose, Laurent, Nick Colella, Grez, Mike Rubendall, Austin Maples and Stewart Robson rounded out 2018. 2019 will be a slower year but I hope still rad. ETA: Hendricks and Bryan Kienlen!

Thanks to all of you for your support. Wishing you an amazing 2019!

Impressive list in general so all in one year is incredible! Would love to get a Hendricks tattoo eventually as well. I am originally from Fullerton and my parents still live there and I go back often so hopefully sooner than later.

    Happy New Year everyone!

  5. Hello,

Thought it would be fun to start a thread to talk about tattoo's you got this year and what you hope to get next year, I'll start.

This year I got 2 new tattoos, a shrunken head (pictures in gallery) and an add on to a Friday the 13th tattoo I already had (pictures to follow, still healing) and my fiance got 1 of a dream catcher on her forearm. I've had a renewed itch to get tattoo'd so hoping to complete my left arm next year. I have two medium sized spots left on that arm, the first being my elbow which I plan on getting covered with a death moth in the beginning of March. The other is my upper half of my upper arm/should area which has a decent amount of space for a larger piece although I am not sure exactly what yet. I also have 3-4 spots I can fit small (2.5 sq in or less) tattoos that I have some plans for as well. Hopefully a few more too but we'll see what the budget allows.

What tattoos did you get this year and what do you plan on getting next year?

  6. Went with my fiance to get her tattoo a few days ago so I could show the artist a Friday the 13th tattoo that I am looking to get reworked and added to. He had a cancellation on the 26th so I grabbed it. Really looking forward to it as I've known since I got the tattoo that I wanted to add to it so I've been avoiding the area until it is finished. The original scarred pretty badly and a lot of the ink fell out but I never got it touched up as I thought it gave it a more rugged look. I'll post before and after pictures when it's done.

well, squid pants getting the layers...finished my Five Deadly Venoms themed thigh tattoo collage !

My homie Rich Harding (Champion Tattoo Edmonton, AB) whipped in some some smoke-grey shading behind the 2nd layer black widow spider and centipede he did last month.. The spider webbing is layered on top of my 9 year old p-knee tattoos. really tied everything together and am very happy with the results. it is healing great.

Love this! Top layer fits in so seamlessly in my eyes.

  8. My dad and stepmom were both cool with it and curious to see my first (and each one since). My stepdad who I’m super close with (and isn’t with my mom anymore) hates them but never says anything negative about them. The occasional vague comment about not liking tattoos but never directed at me lol. And my mom, who I was most worried about found out on Facebook picture I was tagged in. She had moved out state recently and just texted me with questions and asking for pictures which was surprising. I guess I lucked out because both my older sisters have tattoos so was almost expected from me.

  9. I was going to post a new topic but looks like I haven't reached my post requirement yet so leaving this here instead. I have an appointment on Friday with an artist I am getting tattoo'd by for the first time and wanted to comment on how refreshing the experience was due to his use of technology. Once we discussed the design and decided on a date, I was invoiced for my deposit through Square (with the option to use Venmo or Paypal to avoid a transaction fee) and as soon as the credit card was processed I was emailed not only a receipt but a calendar invite with my time and the shop details on it so I have all the details on my phones calendar without having to type it out myself. Today I received an automated reminder reminding me about my upcoming appointment and their 24 hour cancellation policy which was a nice touch as well.

I'm sure this is becoming the norm but it doesn't seem like a lot of shops are taking advantage of all the incredible new software available to businesses. For example, an automated email could be sent the day of the tattoo explaining aftercare, providing social media links to tag in photos and even a link to their yelp page explaining how much reviews help the shop. I'd personally love to be added to a distribution list to receive weekly photos of the tattoos they did that week, flash the artist wants to tattoo and upcoming events. Do you like this sort of thing or do you prefer more human interaction when preparing for a tattoo? I realize this is all pretty simple stuff but is there any other new software or technology you'd like to see your shops start using?
