  1. Put some work into the 2nd layer last nite and ran over some old tattoo with new. It was an awesome time. Trevor is an old pal from our teenage punk years. We teased him when he was the first of our friends to get some tattoo. And now he's tattooing us 2 decades later. It's really funny. 3 swallows blasted over the background of my 13 year old St. Francis tattoo. All draw on. Used spearmint, lipstick red inks and some old National Yellow pigment for extra cool points. Cheers

    Hi

Tattoo scene is smaller than you think worldwide. Threatening legal action isn't going to get you any favours or goodwill, you will be black-listed through word of mouth if your master is well-connected. Perhaps you can return to your master and humble yourself to ask for a second chance. Loyalty is a dying quality in this day and age. You should respect your teacher, but ego often gets in the way for us and we think we don't need the master anymore. If you gave up so easily after 1.5 years because the apprenticeship was so overwhelming for you, why do you want to return to the path of becoming a tattooist?
  3. freshie sssssnake bite on the hand by Scott Rusnak, Lucky Strike Tattoo (Edmonton, AB) flip side inside of the wrisssst
  4. yeah that happens. my main tattooist has clients who get going on backpieces, meanwhile they are getting lazer hits on full arms and rib panels for him to start immediately after the backpiece is done. clients with ongoing work generally get priority on the schedule. you may not be taken as seriously if you don't have the mileage yet. some tattooers will say slow-down-junior, let's start with one project before moving on to the next. all tattooers work differently. also important - don't bit off more than you can chew. big tattoo is hard on the body and the bank account. remember getting tattooed by someone is a privilege and honour and not your right.
  5. Every tattoo and every body heals a bit different. A lot of variables. I've had lots of tattoos made and some heal in a few days, some take weeks. Note this is superficial healing, the real healing of the body takes place over several weeks. I don't even use lotion anymore (dry heal) because my skin gets irritated and I find that's what works to me. Just leave the tattoo alone and keep it clean, don't put too much balm or lotion on it. Whatever you think is the bare minimum cut that in half ! Doesn't look infected at all, your arm (not leg haha) isnt' going to fall off and the tattoo is in there. Just give it time and don't stress. We've seen waaaaay worse in person and on the internet and you're looking fine bud. Congrats on popping your tattoo-cherry and welcome to slippery slope of dermal illustrations ;)
  6. Got my book yesterday ! I got home and saw the big box and figured it was one of my dumb ebay impulse buys or car parts haha...totally forgot I had pre-ordered this baby a while back. Came with some nice prints by Grez and Rubendall. Really nice attention to detail on the overall project. I went to bed super late, cause I got stoked and had to look at every single god damn page. Some super cool tattoo art and meaning dissection. I didn't realize how many tattooists were included in the project. Gonna have some new ideas brewing after digesting this book !
  7. Looks pretty thick and dry. It's only Day 5, give it another 1 or 2 weeks. If the surrounding skin starts getting red and inflamed, stop using lotion on it. The hair follicles might get a little irritated too if it's on your leg if you use too much goop. Remember you only nead a pea drop to deal with the dryness, don't over moisturize.
  8. Damn dude @Matej Haviar Feel ya on all those small circles on the octopus, I had to endure the sharp pain of each individual circle on my polkadot dragon Scott did some years ago. Zouch ! Making good progress, keep the momentum going :) "Cap'n Scott" lol...at the old Lucky Strike on St.Alberta Trail I was on the table and when you looked out the front window you can see Captain Scott's Fish & Chips across the street, funny to hear other people calling him that too haha
  9. you could do that hip tattoo in 6 hrs with a lot of smoke breaks
  10. So far 2017 is rewarding me for the challenges of 2016... - Finally driving the turbo race car I've been dreaming about - Slayed another Dragon Dance with my kung fu group and took our routine to a new level. - Won an engineering contract to develop a major high voltage distribution system - Working on the succession plan for me and my partners to takeover our engineering firm this year - Reconnected with my tattoo sensei with my idea for a 2nd layer tattoo this season. - Still thinking my armpit tattoo idea is not a bad idea lol - Got tickets to DRI in April ...and who said tattooed people won't amount to anything ? thats what I thought! f*ck the status-quo GET TATTOO & BE AWESOME
  11. Risk analysis - is saving $50 worth the risk of a half-assed tattoo? Get the tattoos you want from the tattooists you want. Price is what it is. "The cheap man always pays twice."
  12. "A picture is worth a thousand words" For your consideration - a classic "Mom" heart and banner, a classic horseshoe w/ a "Dad" banner. One on each side of the body. upper arms or wrists (not upsidedown!).
  13. a F***-off eagle up above, an up-yours eagle down below. backstop with crimson red. with fire. lots of fire! cause i wished i had got more fire all over before i filled up. now i have to live vicariously through strangers on the internet ! cheers
  14. whats up Jerry, welcome. easy - slap a big bold black rose with some spiky leafs. it will pop out of your t-shirt collar and leave people wondering. so then you will have to up the ante and get a big ass panther down your back and tiger fighting a snake up your torso. it's a slippery slope haha. but the cover-up can be easily achieved.
  15. My sneaky panther concealing a mini dagger with his tail made by Shawn O'Connor
  16. Geez, this is tattoo, no cry babies ! Numbing cream, yeah good luck with that...cause when that shit wears off an hour in, it's going to slam your pain management into overdrive. Try drinking a half bottle of nyquil if you really want to feel nothing, but good luck with the stomach pain for the days after. Breathe and relax your feet, the body will follow. Schedule shorter sessions if you can't take it (and rib is no joke), don't need to be a hero. The best thing is to take tattoo straight, focused and healthy. Needle goes in easy, body heals better.
  17. so...logistics...this really dumb (and awesome) tattoo idea is starting to manifest...do you think it is realistic to get both armpits at once ? in terms of pain threshold but also healing both at once? i'm considering a 3 session strategy ... line both at once / colour fill one / colour fill the other. if i go out of town that means scheduling/cost of 3 trips. or i could be an idiot and try and do it all at once. thoughts?
  18. @Matej Haviar digging watching your progress man! big up Edmonton haha. but say some prayers, you're in for a whooping when Cap'n Scott hits your lower back. Almost there. You'll be healed in time for the Lucky Strike summer party and you can join our buck-naked tattoo crew gong show. cheers
  19. Logan Morrison put tattoo #43 (Exhibit A) on me and tattoo #1 (Exhibit B) on my brother at Tattoo Union Vancouver, BC this weekend. Very cool shop. Exhibit A Exhibit B Giddy Up
