  1. I think Stewart and Stefan pretty much nailed it. I have people come in the shop asking to get others artwork done all the time and I've noticed it just depends on the quality and style of the piece. If it's something that is a tattoo style, the professional your approaching can most likely draw it better than a non professional. If it's got more of a paintery feel to it then it just depends on how it will translate to skin, like they said not all art styles translate well as a tattoo. Also with tattoo style art you have to realize that your tattoo is a representation of that tattoo artist work, so if its a bad drawing the artist will most likely want to redraw it because they don't want you walking around with a friends bad drawing tattooed on them and people thinking that's the quality of work they do. But above all take your artist opinion, that's why you went to them because they are professionals and know what will work and what won't. I can't stand it when I nicely try to explain to someone that the piece of art they want won't work well as a tattoo and they storm out of the shop as though I'm a dick or don't know what I'm talking about.

  2. I love this picture above, its a perfect example for this conversation. Not only does the arm with no filer look stronger now but you can tell that the negative space is going to give those tattoos room to grow over time and not blur right into each other. I will be using this photo as an example to future clients who want smaller traditional pieces on why background isn't necessarily needed to make a sleeve look complete and finished. And that stomach piece is insane, so simple and so strong, love it!

  3. Hi there everyone. My name is Josh Wilcox, i am a tattoo artist out of Las Vegas, NV. I apprenticed under Aaron Neiman for 2 1/2 years at a rad traditional shop called Pussykat Tattoo, and have been on my own since 2010. Aaron recently opened his own shop in town called Heritage Tattoo at the begging of 2012, i followed him over there and am more than glad to call it home. You can find out more about us at heritage-tattoo.com if your interested. I found Last Sparrows website from watching the online interviews which i love. Its awesome that great tattoo artist are interviewing other great and sometimes legendary tattoo artist and its not just some schmo with a camera who doesn't know anything about tattooing. I got on the website and liked the feel it has and instantly wanted to join. I will be posting pics of my work as well as checking out what everyone else is doing, thanks and good day to you all!
