  1. @MadeIndelible thank you!! It was a great experience, Seth is a super nice guy.
  2. Just started this with Seth Wood! Edit: ahh posting images from Tapatalk is confusing. Hopefully one of these worked!
  3. Another option is to layer a new tattoo on top of it that doesn't completely cover the tattoo below. I could see this working nicely for a dotwork style. Example of what I mean: Instagram
  4. We don't talk about pricing here. I think you've got lots of good info from this thread and the next step is to read through the vast amount of info posted on the forum already to learn more. (Starting to see where you're coming from, @Graeme...)
  5. sorry, I was just thinking about the stupid shit I thought was cool before I knew about what makes a good tattoo and thought I could help a bit.
  6. I think people are calling that style “watercolor”. It’s a newer, trendy style of tattoo. There is some doubt about if it will age well and some think it’s just a passing trend. As you can see, a lot of people who are into more traditional styles (most of this forum) don’t think highly of it, so you won't find any info on that here. You can google artists like Amanda Wachob and Sasha Unisex as a starting point to find out more, but I'd encourage you to look into more established styles that are known to stand the test of time.
  7. My OB/GYN is heavily tattooed, sleeves and all. I didn't know for years until it came up in conversation, she always wears long sleeves and you would never be able to tell. Unless you have your hands or neck done, I think you should just crank the A/C up in your office and buy a bunch of long sleeved shirts! That said, there definitely is some good info on this forum about laser removal and how it works if you dig around a bit in the "Tattoo Removal and Coverup" section.
  8. Welcome to LST from another NC resident (Charlotte)! Beautiful tattoos in your gallery.
  9. I got my mom two monmon cat prints for Mother's day and she loves them. She's a crazy cat lady and loves Japanese art so I knew she would. I showed her some monmon cat tattoos she said they were "adorable" and "if I ever got a tattoo that is what I would get" but "not the skull one though."
  10. Today I'm exactly 1 month away from my appointment with Seth Wood for a large thigh tattoo. The appointment is part of a 5-day trip to San Francisco, so I'm doubly excited for the tattoo and the vacation!
  11. Thanks for posting those photos @HettyKet and @MadeIndelible, I too have cutting scars that will eventually get covered up, so happy to see it worked out so well for you. Did you notice any difference in healing the over the scars vs. the rest of the tattoo?
  12. I think there is a certain nuance that gets lost in discussions about cultural appropriation. There's a difference between cultural exchange (e.g. Western people getting Japanese-style tattoos) and cultural appropriation. There's more to it than just, "did this design come from another culture?" That alone isn't offensive. Does this design have specific spiritual / cultural significance that is lost on outsiders (the Maori Tā moko)? Is this tattoo inaccurate in a significant way that shows a lack of respect for the culture (Native American women in a headdress)? Is the subject of the tattoo from a cultural group that is subjected to oppression or violence today in a manner depicted in the tattoo (gypsy head tattoos [beheading], Native American pin-up girls [sexual assault])? From what I understand, dreamcatcher tattoos generally aren't offensive because they don't have a specific spiritual meaning and have been given to outsiders for decades. Whereas a sexualized woman in a headdress is offensive because the headdress had specific cultural meaning and because Native American women are subjected to sexual assault at an incredibly high rate. Deciding what tattoos you're comfortable getting is a very personal choice... I would not judge anyone here or speak badly about anyone's tattoos. I am only critical about what I would get on my own body. Even if I don't fully understand why a tattoo is offensive to members of a culture, I prefer to err on the side of respect (even if it's "over-PC") than offense. Sorry this got so long, and sorry in advance if I offended anyone. This is something I have thought a lot about.
  13. Yesterday I was in my car sitting at a red light and the guy to my right motions to roll down my window, I do. He points to one of my tattoos and goes "'EY WHAT'S THAT MEAN??" The light turned green so I yelled out "I just liked how it looked!" as I drove away. Weird place for that conversation.
  14. Since you only got the tattoo a month ago, I'd wait another month or two to adjust to it before you make any decisions. Don't run out and add something to it on impulse just to erase your bad feelings... with time you might end up feeling fine about it. In the meantime, you could start putting money aside for a coverup or laser treatments, so when you are ready to make a decision you have the funds to support it. Also, welcome to LST!
  15. I've been tattooed twice at Three Kings. Nothing but good experiences there. The artists are very talented and the shop's got a great vibe.
  16. Hey Amanda, welcome to LST. Sorry to hear about your struggle with lupus. Are you looking for artist suggestions or do you have someone in mind and need advice on contacting him/her? And by Asheville I'm guessing you're referring to the one in North Carolina, is that right?
  17. Third-ing "later in the trip". I've done it both ways and definitely preferred getting the appointment right at the end of the trip.
  18. Welcome, I really like your tattoos!
  19. Hello and welcome! Generally, asking the members here to do surveys isn't well received. Check out these other threads to read some perspectives on why that is: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/initiation/5124-tattoo-survey.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/initiation/3468-apology-my-tattoo-study-thread.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/initiation/3459-hi.html With that out of the way, I'd be interested in seeing photos of your pocket watch tattoo!
  20. @polliwog That rose is something else! Get it in the Tattoo of the Month RHW Showdown pronto.
  21. @suburbanxcore , since you're entering your Ron Wells wolf, I'll throw in his cousin, the Ron Wells fox:
