Here's the fox I got yesterday from Ron Wells, tough to get a good photo. Was supposed to fly in, get the tattoo, and fly back out last night but due to the snow storm I'm now stuck in NYC until tomorrow. So getting this little guy has turned into an unexpected vacation / adventure / chance to hang out with old friends.

@TrixieFaux Your arms are the best. Almost makes me wish I'd gone with all black and gray!

Thanks for posting those photos @HettyKet and @MadeIndelible, I too have cutting scars that will eventually get covered up, so happy to see it worked out so well for you.
Did you notice any difference in healing the over the scars vs. the rest of the tattoo?

Yesterday I was in my car sitting at a red light and the guy to my right motions to roll down my window, I do. He points to one of my tattoos and goes "'EY WHAT'S THAT MEAN??" The light turned green so I yelled out "I just liked how it looked!" as I drove away. Weird place for that conversation.

That's a good point, I'm sure that's where the "1 year" idea comes from. People feel that if they follow the right rules, or make their tattoo sentimental enough, they can be certain to avoid regretting their decision. I bet a lot of people who end up getting (what we would consider) silly tattoos as their first probably go on to get awesome work later once they get that mental hurdle out of the way.
I think that's part of what makes tattoos so great though... the commitment, the permanence, the trust in your artist. Because of these things, every tattoo is inherently meaningful just for the process itself. Overthinking it or trying too hard to take the risk aspect away from that tattoo would, ironically, somewhat diminish the sentiment of it for me. I'm rambling now, though... :)

I recently started following @yellowbeakpress, they post a lot of interesting vintage or vintage-style tattoo photos and flash.
Completely unrelated to tattoos, but my all-time favorite IG account is @usinterior. It's the US Department of the Interior's official account and they regularly post gorgeous photos of US national parks. If you like nature stuff and aren't following them you're messing up!!

@Tornado6 I found it to be a very easy spot. Little pain, quick healing process.

I totally agree with this and posted elsewhere that it is ironic that she accused him of sexism, because to me this smacks of classism, i.e. "how dare YOU, a lowly tattooer, give ME advice". I think normals might be getting tattooed these days, but they still see tattooers as some sort of savages who are beneath them, and certainly wouldn't have years of training and expertise that might just be worth listening to.
But mostly I feel annoyed that I got sucked into commenting on this at all, because it is indeed total clickbait, and so we are playing right into these idiots' hands. GAH.

If there's any good thing about that stupid article it made me come back to this website to see if anyone was talking about it.
The thing I dislike most about the article is her argument that it's her body and she can do whatever she wants to it. That's not how bodily autonomy works, the right to do anything to your body does not mean she has the right to tell OTHER PEOPLE what to do to her body. By not respecting the artist's right to refuse work, she's dehumanizing him. It's sad we live in a world where a feminist website will publish an article by somebody who doesn't even understand agency.

We have a new tattoo thread, and an upcoming tattoo thread, but nothing about what we're thinking of having done. And planning is half the fun. :)
Here's some stuff I'd like to get some day:
- a rooster fighting a snake, illustrative style, going all the way around my left lower leg
- the classics: Rock of Ages, pharoah's horses...either on my forearms or thighs
- traditional dagger somewhere, not sure where yet
- traditional style sacred heart somewhere
- something sickeningly cute from a female artist (never been tattooed by a woman, really want to embrace my femininity with it!)
- some sort of evil goat as a tribute to my love of metal
Those are set in stone must haves, everything else I'm still thinking about.

You know what would be a fantastic way of getting a tattoo that honors both your daughter and your commitment to feminism? How about putting your trust in one of NYC's many amazing female tattooers and taking her advice on design and placement? If you want to support women, that can certainly include supporting female artists and craftspeople by paying them for their work. It seems like this turned into a feminist issue after she didn't get what she wanted...when it could've been a really cool and memorable experience had a little more thought gone into it. No comment on whether she was or wasn't condescended to, but public shaming of the artist doesn't strike me as a good or productive way of dealing with it.

Saw this article on Brad Stevens instagram and my eyes just about rolled out of my head.
Based on fucking nothing!! But it does show she knows jack shit tattoos or tattoo culture and is a self-victimizing idiot.
No good deed goes unpunished I guess. Try to look out for people by steering them away from bad tattoo decisions and you get publicly defamed.

Placement is, in my opinion, the hardest thing about tattoos to understand, and it is also often the factor that distinguishes good tattoos from great tattoos. This probably isn't the most satisfying answer, but I think to really understand placement you need to look at real tattoos on people because pictures, especially the tightly cropped Instagram photos that make up most of what we look at these days, really give no sense of placement. Half the time you can't even tell what body part they're on.

We stuck with flowers for fillers in the end, even though we did talk about a frog. He took some shots from other angles, but didn't put them up. Maybe he will later. I'm a little sad about it being finished, so I can't imagine how you backpiece people felt when it was over!
...but I might get to find out, because we may have chatted about it a bit today. We'll seeeeeeeeee. :cool:
I get a day to bang around Powell's Books tomorrow and cap off the night with Mad Max, and then I get to be tattooed by @cltattooing the day after that! Definitely a great mini-vacation.

What about clouds and lightning to represent..... clouds and lightning? :cool: If I were you I'd consult a tattooer and tell him/her that you want a tattoo with a thunderstorm theme. Simple as that. Most important thing is to find the right tattooer for the job if you ask me. Plenty of talent in Austin though, so that shouldn't be a problem for you.
