On the subject of women and aging and tattoos and all of that: My tattoos make me so much hotter. There, I said it. Not ONLY that - I never felt comfortable in my own skin growing up. There was always something wrong every time I looked in the mirror. Part of that was adolescence, part body image weirdness handed down via television and magazines, and part jerky people around me.
Anyway - I feel more comfortable in my adorned skin. This, in turn, helps me project confidence, which is helpful in so many different aspects of life. I will feel like a bad ass (70/80/90) year old when I am covered in tattoos! Also, I look better and better as I get older, soooo...I'm stoked.
Tattoos on older women are hoooottt and awesome and badass. :D

I think I have a session with Jill Bonny before the convention on Friday. Hopefully I won't be wiped out too bad by the time it starts. I should be there all day/night Friday and Saturday. For now I plan on going Sunday as well but may opt to get a short session in with Jill again before my flight in the evening.
I'd love to meet up with everyone. @CABS, @cvportagee, and I tried this great Japanese place down the street last year. It's well worth it if anyone is interested in meeting for a bite or drinks.

I also have not been here much recently, but decided to cruise on by and say hiiiii guys! I'm super busy and kicking ass at my new gig and stoked to be doing something I enjoy that fits my lifestyle so well. Stoked to be getting tattooed by Shad in two weeks and then who knows what else is going to get done in October! I'll be back in SF for Halloween and Convention fun. :)))
Miss you, LST, and think of you often. (I'm on my work computer all the time now and *alarmingly* focused, so I never think to make it over here because who wants to be on another computer AFTER work? but truly.)

Yeah @beez, real shitty! I even got a cold this time around, I never get sick (or even the tattoo flu) when I get tattooed! Totally sucked...

I know a few ladies posted about getting tattooed before/around having their period and I have to say that it DOES make a difference! If you can, I recommend NOT getting tattooed the day before your period is due... Will be a much more pleasant experience if you are mid-cycle.

Sorry, but I don't see this as "preserving the art". I see it as another commercial venture that came about because of the recent popularity of tattoos. Preserving the art can be done photographically.

@ChuckJ Thank you for being forthright about answering our questions. I think the "least morbid as possible" approach is what doesn't sit right with me about this. On the one hand I completely understand why if somebody wanted to preserve their tattoos to give to their children, spouse, or whoever, that hanging what is obviously a piece of preserved human skin on the wall wouldn't be to every taste and disposition, but when it comes down to it, that's still what it is. The attempt to take the morbidity out of something that is intrinsically morbid just seems kind of weird, even if the reasons why you would want to do that are apparent. A corollary to that is that a tattoo isn't the same thing as a painted canvas in that it only has meaning as a tattoo once it's in the skin and is subject to the bodily processes of aging and decay, and to take the tattoo out of that context makes it not a tattoo. I prefer those wet Japanese bodysuits, or the preserved skin that still looks like skin with pores and nipples and all that in the Wellcome Collection. Those exist for very different reasons though, and again, nobody is putting those on a wall. Anyway, thanks again for answering our questions and welcome.

Gakkin and Guy Le Tatooer...the heavy black bodysuits are blowing my mind. Especially the recent one that Guy Le Tattooer is working on that French gal, with the dots, ornaments and big peonies. The layering is crazy, the results are beautiful.

This is the first tattoo I saw that made me go "Holy hell I need my torso tattooed right now". It blew my fragile little mind.

Not a bad idea for a thread. I could see this getting out of hand, in a good way.
My jaw hits the floor with every single Jondix backpiece. And I've only seen pictures of them on the internet. I'm sure my eyes would explode if I saw one in person.

I have never seen a thread for this anywhere on the forums, but sometimes I see a tattoo somewhere and it makes me go OH MY GOD THAT IS SO AMAZING and I want to share it with you guys, but since it isn't mine, I can't put it in the Lowdown thread. So, I thought I would make a thread for posting pictures of killer tattoos that don't belong to us, just to share them and 'oooooh, ahhhhh' over them.
...As I type this I'm realizing that probably 6 out of 10 rad tattoos I see on instagram turn out to belong to somebody here, so maybe this is redundant, but oh well! If it dies, it dies. :)
And I'm going to contribute something, because my regular tattooer just did a thing that made my eyeballs pop out of my head, and inspired me to make the thread in the first place, because I needed people to squee about it with.

Rad!! I was hoping she wouldn't feel insulted because the "friend" character, who the main character is growing apart from, does ballet, which is a source of tension--and you mentioned that your daughter does both. I liked that the book didn't stereotype and showed that ballet is every bit as demanding as roller derby, though. There are so many excellent kids' graphic novels that have been coming out lately.
